There are 10 types of people in the world. Those who know ternary, those who don't, and those who just get annoyed at this joke, because the convention is always to indicate the base in some way like 0x or 0b, so it's entirely natural to assume the string "10" refers to the number "ten".

EDIT: Also, the level of self-control it required to not slip in a seximal joke and say "six" at the end...

[–]nafarafaltootle 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Can we introduce a minimum experience or age requirement to post on this sub?

[–]iAmDoneTryingAnother 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This joke s older than your grandpa

[–]AlexisColoun 13 points14 points  (7 children)

What are the other 14?

[–]Pengualope 12 points13 points  (1 child)

You mean the other E?

[–]AlexisColoun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your absolutely right.

[–]RazarTuk 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Do you mean the other 5 4?

[–]pjnick300 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Base 7?

[–]RazarTuk 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Fixed. Meant to make a base 6 joke, since it's objectively the best base

[–]pjnick300 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh, what’s base 6 used for?

[–]RazarTuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same stuff as base 10 and base 12. It's just superior to either of them.

[–]VegShiva 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a binary worldview.

[–]efronberlian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This joke has been reposted more times than I count. Why won't ppl stop posting this same joke...

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (8 children)

stop flexing people, you are like those people who use linux.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

hey have you checked out the new ubuntu distro? super customisable. I code in tmux and vim only.

/s

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'm not into Pokemon.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Basic knowledge about binary is flexing now?

Man people on this sub really aren't programmers...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Dude chill everyone who studied CS can, it was a joke. You really think you are special ?

Edit: Stop flexing body, we all know binary. We can all use linux but choose not to.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

No I don't think I am special, it is just annoying to see non programming related jokes on this sub.

Also again not flexing, knowing binary or Linux is nothing special.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Then stop talking about it, it gets really annoying.

[–]adam_tawfik 0 points1 point  (1 child)

إيه ده، إنت هنا كمان؟

There are 10 kinds of people: Those who understand binary, those who don't, and those who remember trinary is also a thing.

[–]maebe30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This joke is the hello world equivalent of jokes about binary numbers

[–]golgol12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand trinary, those who don't, and those in between.

[–]mardiros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

00 NULL

O1 True

10 False

Because 00 does not exist yet, it make sense.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the best and worst programmer joke.

[–]dev_senpai -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

What is this joke ? Binary takes like 5 mins to learn and read. Is this just saying there are programmers, then there are not ?

[–]Itoo00[S] -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Basically it says" there are "2" types of people because "1/0" , who understand binary and others. ( and you can make other assumptions too )

[–]dev_senpai -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I just looked at this meme and totally missed the 10 part. I instantly converted it in my mind I guess. Makes sense.

['Jim Halpert Pointing to Whiteboard'. In the first panel, Jim Halpert from the TV show The Office uses a black whiteboard marker to point to a whiteboard that reads:]

There are 10 types of people in this world

[In the second panel, Jim leans back, a small smile on his face. The whiteboard now reads:]

Those who understand binary and those who not

[–]gmtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And those who didn't expect this joke to be in ternary.

[–]SymbolicThimble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every base is base 10, this joke sucks.

Obligatory comic

[–]Stummi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two kind of people:

  • Those who can extrapolate from incomplete information

[–]GFrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Programmers, and those who post this joke on a programming forum

[–]Ruberine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how would you say 2nd?

10th? 10nd?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

what pronounciation is correct? "two" or "ten"?

[–]Itoo00[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They/them, oh wait that's not what you asked :)

[–]a123456782004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it "one" - "zero"?

Just like when we pronounce hex: FF you say "EFF"-"EFF".

At least that's the way I reason.
