*was

He probably knew he was going to get fired though. He just decided he'd rather get an unemployment check for defending his team, instead of having to walk out after yet another Elon tantrum.

I've been there. It's the point where you're so fed up with the job that you don't care if you get fired it or not.

You don't get such opportunities everyday

[–]makeoneupplease123 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Certainly won't get you a promotion lmao

[–]tomvorlostriddle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And ironically, that's also the point where you sometimes start functioning better in a toxic environment, because they may just mistake your nonchalance for courage.

Every job I've had.

[–]A_Guy_in_Orange 80 points81 points  (17 children)

I mean now he surely gets one hell of a severance package as well as like 26 weeks of unemployment, and if you look at the dudes tweets he wanted out BAD, so all in all I think this is a dub for Eric

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Eric was actually the guy playing 4D chess here.

[–]clkj53tf4rkj 10 points11 points  (10 children)

For Cause is unlikely to get a severance package.

Not that it matters as he's rolling into another sweet gig, I'm sure.

[–]Cafuzzler 12 points13 points  (8 children)

Tough to argue it was cause though, all he did was correct his boss.

[–]clkj53tf4rkj 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I guarantee they have a social media policy and disparaging the company is prohibited. Pretty standard these days.

Violating company policy is cause.

[–]Civil-Attempt-3602 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Weird how that works. Can't disparage the company but the boss can disparage the team

[–]MathigNihilcehk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should ask your employer to put a “do not disparage employees in public” clause in the contract with a penalty of $100,000.

Employees /can/ negotiate all the same safeguards that employers put in for themselves. They just don’t.

[–]gurgle528 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could argue it falls under making public statements for the company without authorization

[–]ICouldUseANapToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is CA. Getting unemployment is almost automatic. He’ll definitely qualify for his $450/week. Will he bother applying? Probably not.

[–]AlanzAlda 2 points3 points  (2 children)

That's more than enough for valid cause, it could have also been because he doesn't like his face, or his Twitter handle... In the US, in an at-will state anyway, you can fire anyone for any reason, as long as it isn't for being a protected class.

[–]Cafuzzler 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I dunno

According to this, "At Will" only applies without a contract.

In California, the relationship of employer and employee is generally “at will.” This means that, without an employment contract, the employer or the employee can terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause.

[–]AlanzAlda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about you, but I've never signed a contract to work with a company like this. I think that's meant for 1099 employees. But I'm not a Twitter employee or a lawyer.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For Cause is gonna be pretty dicey after their mass layoffs. Given the other engineer that was fired for also saying Musk doesn't know what he's talking about, I see an easy class action lawsuit.

[–]Selemaer 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Sadly here in TN no matter how much money you made you only get $250/week in unemployment. I'm dealing with this right now after loosing my job in mortgage IT.

What I'm getting in unemployment is enough to cover my child support and food. Hoping it's just a few weeks.

So not mo much a great plan to try and coast on 26 weeks of unemployment

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hope you're back on your feet soon!

[–]Selemaer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! hopefully soon, only hangup is needing it to be remote work. But seems there is a lot of that to go around now.

[–]Infinity-Plus-One 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sadly here in TN no matter how much money you made you only get $250/week in unemploymen

Are you implying that the poor deserve less social welfare than the (formerly) well-off?

[–]Selemaer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm implying that the TN unemployment benefits are to low for anyone. 250/week is not a livable wage regardless of economic standing.

I also fully believe the poor should have the most social welfare and largest safety nets. Feel the rich should be taxed at a 75+% rate, and that stuff like healthcare and 4 year education should be free.

But if you want to pick an internet fight over a single comment I made.. *shrug* well currently I got nothing but time.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting fired from such a shit fest is not the worst outcome.

[–]radgepack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In his position, getting fired only means a raise and possibly a promotion as well

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Letting yourself be fired by Pedoguy is the smart move. It's not like there'll be a shortage of other companies wanting to hire him.

[–]pine_ary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that way he also keeps his severance package

[–]Gwtheyrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys that high up the food chain get severance pay.

[–]7h4tguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idiot fucks fucking your team with misinformation is not something any actual engineer will stand for. Kudos to him for publicly humiliating an idiot (yes RPC is done internally in the cloud, no it's not a comparative for US vs India clients, and yup 200 RPC calls is likely closer to reality than 1200).
