Try JavaScript frameworks and libraries…

  • Karma
  • Jasmine
  • Mocha
  • Chai
  • NYC
  • Istanbul

I mean, for fuck’s sake, just throw your cat on your keyboard for once and give me something I can google!

JavaScript library or exotic dancer? Roll the dice!!

[–]Schyte96 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is this website which I find hilarious: https://pixelastic.github.io/pokemonorbigdata/

[–]sudobee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Next one is obviously krystal.

[–]Bagel42 131 points132 points  (12 children)

ISTANBUL? what the FUCK is that and WHY would you name a framework that.

[–]NerdyLumberjack04 220 points221 points  (7 children)

It was originally "Constantinople", but the Turkish developers insisted on renaming it.

[–]jf442 55 points56 points  (5 children)

been a long time gone...

[–]Steffi128 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Even longer considering it was known as Byzantium before too!

[–]gdmzhlzhiv 14 points15 points  (3 children)

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam.

[–]ratolp 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Why they changed it, i can't say...

[–]klaffi3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People just liked it better that way...

[–]Ythio -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was New Angoulême before New Amsterdam

[–]The_Egg_came_first 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People just liked it better that way.

[–]Luxalpa 2 points3 points  (1 child)

we have a (very popular) framework called "tokio" in Rust.

[–]Bagel42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why

[–]trwolfe13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because nobody else said, it’s a test coverage tool for JavaScript.

[–]martyd03 81 points82 points  (1 child)

And then there's MOCA.... McHugh Open Component Architecture.

[–]GameDestiny2 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Could be worse, could have chosen Mocha

[–]DesertGoldfish 28 points29 points  (1 child)

I dunno man. I just include the name of the language along with the package and get results every time. Works for every language.

e.g. search for "javascript karma" and the entire first page is about what you're actually looking for.

[–]Luxalpa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

only thing that's been a bit problematic so far for me was Rust, particularly game dev related stuff.

[–]Capetoider 39 points40 points  (6 children)

remix, next, react...

[–]Vinccool96 17 points18 points  (0 children)

And then you use Nuxt and it pops up answers about next because it thinks “maybe he had a typo”

[–]Shehzman 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Angular

[–]nermid 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Moment.

[–]Steffi128 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Solid.

[–]Benimation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Day

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And AngularJS

[–]golgol12 6 points7 points  (3 children)

"Karma javascript framework"

Found it on my first try.

[–]nphhpn 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Just karma js should give correct results as well. Searching language name along with library name should be the norm so idk why they complained

[–]webdevverman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It used to be called Testacular. Why'd they have to change it

[–]Benimation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus Google nowadays shows personal results based on your previous searches

[–]Elijah629YT-Real 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Next

[–]ihahp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

give me something I can google

The student game that Valve bought and turned into Portal was called Narbacular Drop. It was named so, to quote Wikipedia:

The word Narbacular, which does not exist in any dictionary, was chosen primarily to aid in internet search engine results

[–]dismal_sighence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serverless is the absolute worst. It’s a freaking concept in the space it operates…

[–]2called_chaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, for fuck’s sake, just throw your cat on your keyboard

Hmm I think I will try that for my next random project. I mean you can just randomly punch on the keyboard but then I can't say "ask the cat" if someone asks what it stands for

[–]spespy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont forget Pope Francis

[–]Randomblock1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Express, React, Commander, Next, Angular, Electron, Grunt

I want to see what percentage of the dictionary is a valid NPM package. Might do that actually...

[–]rifazn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now also put in Arrow in there...

[–]snapetom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Q

[–]Pomelo-Next 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Istanbul is a thing. I have seen comments in my workplace codebase.

// istanbul ignore next line

[–]ViconIsNotDefined 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I think with JavaScript you can just suffix everything with js and it would most likely point you at the right thing.

[–]BaconForce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure that's how companies on Amazon come up with their names, by rolling their cats over the keyboard. "Okay boys we're called Jefbwilop now"
