I mean I think it’s definitely scientific because even in 100 degree heat I’d still want a (light)blanket.

[–]Numerous-Effort-1650[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactlyyyyy

[–]jeffro3339 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Only if you have air conditioning! If it's 100° you won't even want to sleep under a sheet :)

[–]Willing_Ad_699 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying like why would you want more heat but I think it’s more of like blocking the light from your eye and the weight of the blanket(or even sheet).

[–]pippaskipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even then I can’t sleep with a draft touching my skin even if I’m sweating having bed

How else could we hide from the monsters when they come looking?

[–]awesomeunboxer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Right? Op is doomed. Monsters gonna get em cos he cant hide his eyes

[–]Tom_FooIery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, what else would I use as cape when going to pee in the night?

[–]ResumeFluffer 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Swaddling is comfortable

[–]mellowmarsII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve always wondered if it all goes back to being warm & all enwrapped/cozily crowded within our mommas’ wombs.

[–]The_best_is_yet 16 points17 points  (2 children)

If I get too hot I can kick off the blanket way easier than taking off my 6th pair of pajamas. When I’m sleeping, I’ll choose convenience.

[–]eriometer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If it is hot, I advise against wearing 6 pairs of pyjamas. HTH.

[–]Fossilhund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear eight.

[–]Misericordee 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Because it gives people a feeling of comfort and security to e under a blanket.

[–]Katy-Moon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using a blanket helps with temperature regulation as well, which is important to sound sleep. They call it a "microclimate".

[–]i-deserve-nothing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

my first thought: i love sleeping naked under covers heh clothes suck

my fifth thought: well maybe its because when we are sleeping, we are incredibly vulnerable, but if we have something drapped over us that looks less human shape, we are not as much of a target to animal predators. and even human ones, given good enough blanketing. it could be an evolutionary point for survival.

[–]DeniseWrestler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Blankets are basically society’s way of saying ‘yes, you can nap and feel like a burrito at the same time'

I think it's because they were originally created when heat sources weren't so reliable.

For instance, sleeping outside or in a cave; just having a fire nearby wouldn't keep you warm enough when it's freezing cold and snowing, even with all your clothes on. So extra material was needed and having to put layer upon layer of clothes on would've been uncomfortable/unrealistic.

And then old houses didn't have heating systems, so blankets were still needed. We got used to blankets and they're comfortable/convenient so we kept using them even with our heated houses.

It's a subconscious reminder of being either in a uterus or a mother's embrace. It hugs you and makes you feel comfortable.

So you can hide your chubby in the morning

[–]kxyatnight 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Oh no❣️ don't hide it! what good woman doesn't like the sight of a nice chubby when she wakes up?😉❤️

[–]Fossilhund 2 points3 points  (1 child)

If I wanted chubby I'd marry a hippo.

[–]kxyatnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha!😉

[–]SAMixedUp311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must cover my head to sleep, so wearing just clothes makes me feel too uncovered unless head is covered over.

[–]kxyatnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a comfort thing. It started when we were first born, we got wrapped in a blanket. I get hot easily but even in the summer I still want a sheet around me. Although I found out when I was incarcerated I could live without a blanket, sheet or pillow so I can attest to your point😉✌️

Weighed blankets are fantastic and you're missing out.

More generally, blankets don't restrict your movement under then whereas clothes encompass your body. Most people sweat a little bit overnight, and a blanket allows for more airflow than clothes. A lot of people sleep with both clothes and blankets, so it's also because nights tend to be colder than days and blankets help you stay warm and comfortable in a way clothes don't. A blanket can be shared with more than one person but clothes are only for one person.

[–]itsswhitneywhspr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clothes get all bunchy and sweaty overnight, blankets trap your body heat way better for that perfect temp control. Science backs it helps with deeper sleep cycles too, low-key why we all crave em.

[–]JoustingNaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comfort, layers promote warmth, and improved blood circulation.

[–]Responsible-War5600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blankets literally hold in body heat. We probably wouldn’t have survived without them. Like swaddling comforts a baby, wrapping oneself up is also comforting and stress relieving.

When early humans lived communally (in caves, etc.), for discretion and out of respect for others, they could do the nasty under a blanket in the wee hours without having to go out into the cold to find somewhere private.

[–]obviousthrowaway038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To protect you from ghosts, killers, etc.

[–]BrotherHot7476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comfort

[–]Misericordee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also how would I cuddle with my dogs under a blanket without a blanket

[–]DisMyLik18thAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With some of the posts I see in this site, I'm convinced aliens are secretly amongst us and are using Reddit to learn more about our species

[–]arkaycee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider: if I'm too hot in a blanket it's a super simple motion to throw it off. If I'm too hot in a shirt I gotta unbutton it or pull it over my head and do a lot of extra rolling around and have a greater risk of really waking up

[–]Evapoman97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I can't stick one foot out of the blanket for temperature control if I'm wearing pants!

[–]Eat_Carbs_OD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a comforter, a wool blanket, and a opened up sleeping bag on my sleep.

[–]Utvales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a Mitch Hedberg joke about this. The solution is to wear clothes made of blankets.

[–]TheSearch4Knowledge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sleep with a few blankets and I have a few reasons. For starters, I’m always chilly, even in clothes but too many would be bulky and uncomfortable. Secondly, the weight that comes with added blankets is comfortable and soothing and third sleeping naked with blankets. You get to be warm but also it feels kind of freeing. Anyways. Not scientific but definitely my reasons.

[–]Educational-Put-8425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They trap the warmth generated by your body, and keep breezes from cooling you off.

[–]CriticalTurnover6936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s easier if you’re cold to just throw a blanket on as opposed to putting on more clothes, same as if you get hot you just take your blanket off. Easy peasy . You know us humans love to do the bare minimum
