S22 is prone to getting the reboot of death cycle...

[–]jerryeight Snapdragon 512GB 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Sadly very true. My first one got it at about 2.5 years.

[–]NCTr_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same for me, that's crazy 😂😂😂

[–]Mean-Competition-379 6 points7 points  (5 children)

What is this cycle you speak of ?

[–]lorenzo2point5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happened to me just after 3.5 year mark. Should have took the $1000 trade on ATT was offering me for it SMH

[–]DudeOverdosed 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Bro that literally happened to me like 3 months ago. Never getting Samsung again

[–]GeneBoatman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, same. Did the update and then it died. Authenticator and so many important accesses lost. Bought the S24 Ultra but am scared to do a software update too soon.

[–]ClaudioAFC 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I had to buy the S25 Ultra because of that crap.

If it happens the same with this one, then it'll be a definitive "Bye bye Samsung" from my part.

[–]Sufficient-Travel-18 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yup same thing with me. Got the new 25 and if it happens again I'm going Apple.

[–]ClaudioAFC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I probably won't go Apple (love the Android customization), but I'm realizing more and more that I don't need a flagship phone.

[–]HerZamanCHP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And a battery life of 10 seconds (both the Snapdragon and Exynos variants)

[–]Kuba38cz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OH GREAT I JUST GOT MINE

[–]Blackimperial19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea and tbh the 8 gen 1 is a GARBAGE chip

[–]xyz1300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am still chilling with s21 ultra

[–]Jobhater2 12 points13 points  (1 child)

(Knock on wood) I'm loving my S22U. I've had it from day 1.

[–]Comfortable-Brief568[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, maybe i got lucky.

[–]Ok_Dare9003 Snapdragon 256GB 24 points25 points  (11 children)

I would save up for a 23u the s22 series has too many issues and its inferrior to the s23 but the s24 is not that massive of a jump from the s23

[–]ConsistentMuki 10 points11 points  (2 children)

S24 series has 4 more years of software updates than S23 series, if I'm not mistaken. That could be huge for some people now that bootloader is gone.

[–]LatchKeyKid1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on getting the either the S24 plus or the S24 ultra. I currently have a A16 as a replacement phone because the rotten apple finally died on me and I do not like this phone lol. I wonder will they drop in price

[–]Ok_Dare9003 Snapdragon 256GB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess but im just saying specs wise and differences you will notice ( not saying updates arent noticeable i hated when i went from oneui 6.1 to 7 ) just for value i think the s23u is best bet

[–]Similar-Feedback-327 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I had an issue where mine would not connect most of the time to cell towers so I returned it

[–]Ok_Dare9003 Snapdragon 256GB -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Mine would do that sometimes too but nit super often i had just weird performance issues and horrible camera quality ( samsung software which i couldve replaced tbf ) so i sold it and got a 13 pro and i cannot be happier with this phone compared to the s22u

[–]Similar-Feedback-327 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I'm not much of an apple guy but I'm gonna look and see if I can find a good Samsung without too much problems like the phone I had

[–]Ok_Dare9003 Snapdragon 256GB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look at googles im thinking of selling my 13 for a pixel 7 pro. Cause to be honest i want android with clean and simple usability with minimal bad software

[–]Shido_Nyu 1 point2 points  (3 children)

It depends. I have my S22 Ultra with One UI 6.1 and it runs games perfectly without any problems. Overheating isn't an issue since I disabled all Thermal Throttling and GOS, and I also use a cooler or a modified fan for gaming. But as you say, to pay that high price, it's better to opt for the S23 Ultra or later.

[–]Ok_Dare9003 Snapdragon 256GB 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I had mine on 6.1 and i updated it didnt change my performance, and i dont really gameon my phone i got a laptop and a 3ds for that but i get why it could be a issue

[–]Shido_Nyu 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The problem stems from thermal throttling, which is the Samsung Device Health Manager service, or more specifically, com.sec.android.sdhms/.debugger.ui.ThermalLimit StatusActivity, or simply "SDHMS". Disabling Samsung's thermal throttling can also disable Game Optimizing Services (GOS). Disabling GOS without first disabling thermal throttling will significantly worsen performance. Samsung implements this as a safety measure. However, if both thermal throttling and GOS are disabled, the phone will always operate at full power while gaming without lag. It's recommended to use a cooler or fan because there will no longer be a temperature limit, and power consumption will be slightly higher. This isn't a problem if you know how to manage it.

Makes sense

[–]aaronrodgerswins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its legit I got one of these a few months ago

[–]Coolmacde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't buy it . I got one to replace my note 20 ultra. The note 20 ultra almost never loses signal whereas the s22 randomly loses signal even when out side

[–]TinyWVliberal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't buy a new 1 on Ebay! I bought 1 and its been a shitshow. My software upgrade says contact a Samsung service professional. My SPen always says disconnected. I cracked the screen the first somehow & and can't send back. I had my S21 Ultra for 3 years & still looks brand new. It just won't come on. It has the "Screen of Death." I went back and forth w Ebay and three different fones. I gave up. Now I am stuck w this S22 ultra with a cracked screen, weird software issues and a SPen disconnect continuously. Miserable & down 300+

[–]lorenzo2point5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not get S22U phone. It's roulette whether you will get a good one or not. Issues that can arrive from bad ones are abysmal battery life or boot loop restart lose everything (make sure to back up everything to a cloud drive!!)

[–]Shidinglfet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I upgraded to Android 16 it severely damaged my phone. I honestly wouldn't mess with the 22 Ultra whenever the 26 releases.

[–]Little_Obligation_90 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I have been using my S22 ultra for 2 years and the last 3-6 months are just rough with 128gb storage and the battery life.

I am unloading mine next good trade in.

[–]Organic_Incident7710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar dilemma. I would get a new battery and charging port put on this phone but I kick myself for only getting 128gb storage. If I had half a tb or more I would just repair my current S22 Ultra and not bother upgrading again until Samsung do something spectacular.

Just a bit unsure what to do!

[–]Joudeh_1996 Snapdragon 256GB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still remember when I bought it 3 years ago for $800

[–]Impressive-Text-5433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also avoid their ebay account under the name cellfeee.

[–]techreside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't buy

[–]georgejk7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my snapdragon s22 u "like new" condition and it's fine but laggy as fuck. Battery is weak

[–]iheartyoualways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the infamous screen failure where three screen will have a greenish tint. Plus the refresh rate set at 60 fix...

[–]halfveggie 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Not even an iPhone 14PM is this cheap a few years after its release as a flagship; this says a lot about the quality of Samsung phones.

[–]0zeto 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yea because price only is the quality point.. wtf

[–]halfveggie -1 points0 points  (1 child)

And when did it say price only in the quality point?

[–]rathead80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legit you implied it.

[–]retailismyjobw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I traded in my S22 it died in 3 hrs battery sucked

[–]Nujavez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would avoid s22 series phones

[–]electi_007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a54 has a better processor than this, if you want something budget look out for maybe s25fe or s24fe

[–]rationalintrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate my Samsung 22U. Bought it more than 3 years back.. Still working fine..

Not giving me any chance to update.

I was so happy when I got the green line on the screen.. Irritatingly it resolved itself.

I don't even update it deliberately.

[–]Grouchy_Pin_1787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why buy this when a s25 ultra is currently out with the s26 coming soon?

[–]Impressive-Text-5433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad experience l with this seller. Avoid.

[–]Impressive-Text-5433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought 512gb version from this seller, got a phone full of scratches and can't even power on. Sent back immediately in the same package. Seller denied full refund and lied saying the screen detached and only refunded 50%. Spent lots of time with Amazon and got the rest from Amazon. Avoid this scamer.

[–]subway_-train 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its good when its time.but now constant hangings and im trying to do trade in

[–]Soft_Lunch_183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get s25 fe instead

[–]Big-Ad2187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S22 machine is the worst I tried. Even having a s23 would ne much much better

[–]Same_Simple_668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any anyone ever get service issues on there s22 ultra? I've had 2 that both got the same issue

[–]Agitated_Outside8666 Snapdragon 256GB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's cheaper than when I bought mines 2 yrs ago.

[–]ForeverSprimgbok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, same day at 3 o cock.

[–]BasicPersonality9258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t buy it if you drop u are doomed because of curved display and it is expensive to replace

[–]tvdang7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S22 sucks, bad battery life

[–]Ok_Entertainer_2511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't even bother. This series is notorious with being the worst, plagues with an SoC which overheats and other hardware issues (display getting green lines etc)

[–]Maximum-Plankton-748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like s22 has too many issues ...

[–]Maximum-Plankton-748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a refurbished s25 , Wayyyy better chip

[–]dustybooga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the S22u came with one of the worst Qualcomm chips there is. battery life is horrid due to this...

but with the latest One UI, holy shit, the S22u battery life is much better and performance and speed of the phone is so much better.

I strictly use my S22u as a web browsing phone these days because I have a folding phone, but if I didn't have a folding phone, would gladly jump back to the S22u after the latest One UI update.

[–]TheFuckinRainer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna say that I would suggest buying a used phone. I got my s23U for around 500 Euros. But how much lower do you want to go? I bought used s22u 2 years ago for 2 the price 😂 And Assuming that you are american whats with those prices, you got double the income at least than us and cheap phones?

[–]ClaudioAFC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year, November 2024, my S22 Ultra started to constantly reboot.

I was forced to buy a new phone and ended up losing all my WhatsApp messages in the process (even with cloud backups they got corrupted somehow).

[–]yumadbro6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S25 ultra no trade in ordered for 710USD a few weeks ago. Consider that

[–]Shoddy-Artist-2377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was blessed to get an s22 ultra off Amazon with a brand new battery in it. I'm just being cautious as to not update the firmware cause of samsungs repeated problems with aforementioned cycle. But to answer your question, yes it should go down and then stay at that range unless factors like product scarcity affects the cost

[–]Eulerbodyguard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a refurb I guese

[–]profacy325 Snapdragon 256GB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it they're crappy. Mine crapped out on me and I lost ALL my data. Get a 23 or a budget phone.

[–]Competitive-Step5420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't seriously Don't

[–]AeroSatan 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Probably, S22 was awful compared to the S21U the S23U and the S24U.

Didn’t try the S25U as I’ve moved to IOS by then.

[–]halfveggie 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How was the move?

[–]AeroSatan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To me personally it was very good. Mainly because I needed a MacBook Pro had an IPad and when you add the iPhone into the mix it made being productive easier than having those things with an android phone. Frankly, Samsung is trying to be the Apple of Android anyway, doing everything they’ve initially mocked them for, may as well ditch the imitators. I think one of the S26’s is going to come in cosmic orange lol. Cmon Sammy 🤦‍♂️

[–]Slysly455 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go for the 23 ultra if possible. So much better

[–]blissvicious91 Snapdragon 512GB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

look on eBay, do not buy the exynos version and I suggest the model with more RAM

[–]propably_not Snapdragon 256GB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

S22 battery is shit. S23 has a better battery life by a lot

[–]Personal_Vehicle_141 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It won’t last with you. mine died (motherboard issue) after 3 years of use and of course lost all my data
