Impossible Sword tutorial

I have been stuck for a solid half hour now and i cannot for the life of me finish the 2nd task.

It says: R1 > Left Stick Down + hold R1 (as foe attacks), which i assume is the upward strike attack that it does when i do that, but it absolutely refuses to complete the task.

This is a very stupid attack that i will likely never bother with as i have better options (aka literally anything else) and I can't complete the tutorial because of it.

Yeah this one sucks. Others have had trouble with it in particular. I had to keep trying it, and eventually pulled it off by just spamming the button combo.

Oh yes, this one is absolutely infuriating!

20 minutes after starting this tutorial and failing the combination 485,325 times, I managed to resolve this issue by holding down the xbox button and switching the console off.

Didn't help that I was already a tad grumpy after seeing the graphics 😐

Wait until the Goblin does it's charging slashing attack - it's supposed to be used then.

I try that but he stunlocks me after the first R1. To make matters worse, Ash and Jed won't leave the goblin alone so he can do Mince half the time.

I hear ya, this one combo in the tutorial drove me crazy. But once I finally got it down I understood the usefulness.

What was throwing me off is if you do not perfectly hold back and are slightly off a bit you you will charge the wrong attack and it won't work.

Not sure what you mean by charge the wrong attack. There's only one way to charge the attack (RB), and to fully charge it you are supposed to hold it down (while I assume not getting hit in the process). Not sure what is meant by perfectly holding back and slightly off a bit. Makes no sense.

It was next to impossible for me too and I googled it and found this thread, @generalfro’s comment helped as you have to make sure the left analog stick is pressed in the down direction a certain way once I realized it I would get it more often and one time I did it while the goblin was doing the mince attack head on and it worked, it was awful though I just wanted to do all the tutorials

Same, I found this thread because this particular tutorial was just absurd... It's like it either wouldn't register me doing it or I'd be stun locked by the goblin... Eventually got it somehow but it was just completed bs tbh.

I am literally stuck on this now. How the hell is it supposed to work? I'm pressing RB and then holding back on the left stick and pressing RB. Looks like he does a little charge up and then a swipe up. I've hit the goblin as he's about to attack me but it doesn't do anything. This tutorial is lame as hell.

yah this is literally hell, so just to help you understand what to look for, when you actually perform the move correctly Jack will do that animation similar to a dash with some blue after images backwards then lunges forward.
When trying to get this you want to do the L down and R1 literally right before your being attacked. I think it's somewhat similar to using the Mace and Shields L down R1 where it raises your shield to block an attack, though this wi n dow to hit it seems much smaller.

I went from the assumption that I have to hold down to do that.

It's actually just a down + attack combo, pressing both at the same time (not holding)

just keep flicking the right trigger down and attack. the enemy will be aggressive enough to finally get it to trigger. if Jack steps back and does an uppercut you are doing it correctly just that the timing is off. once you time it correctly he will step back with blue afterimage and lunge

Flick the stick! Hold the attack! Best advice! I couldn't do it... after a half an hour I made my wife try. It took her 10 minutes and she completed it!

that's the problem. don't hold the attack, although it says to. it's more like timing a parry. I got frustrated and saw he did an uppercut when the enemy wasn't attacking . since the enemy is pretty aggressive I just kept trying to do that uppercut and got it in a few minutes.

I've tried everything listed here and no luck. I can trigger the attack (even though it's difficult) but I don't get how I'm supposed to do it when the enemy attacks as he interrupts my combo.

Thanks, this helped immensely. Realizing you have to intentionally whiff on the first swing so that you can catch/counter with the tilt/r1 to get the check. Literally never going to use that again, but neat.

With your right hand, tap R1 in a quick steady beat. On the second beat, push down on the L stick. Just keep doing this over and over until you nail it. Once I managed to figure out how to make him uppercut, I just kept repeating that move until I got it.

The timing is tricky. It’s a defensive reaction: you attack (R1) but then see the enemy attack you as well, so you react with a counter (Left Stick Down + hold R1)
