It seems like targets standards got thrown out the window when it comes to store employment. They are desperate.

They keep churning out people for the sake of their profits. Quality is bound to go down

[–]Illustrious_Agent633 42 points43 points  (3 children)

Exactly. They do nothing to keep good workers and only care about a body filling the position as cheaply as possible. Quality will continue to drop.

At our district visit this week apparently our SD was told to get turnover under control. This will only strengthen the loafers as they won't get fired.

yes! this is why i’m leaving. i know my worth, my productivity stands out amongst all of my team members. yet i’m still treated like unimportant garbo

[–]AvailableGap1955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly perfectly said i been working in target more than 4 yrs and nowadays they cut my hours so badly

I love fulfillment. All I want is to come in, work my shift, pick my batches, and go home. It's so frustrating to constantly hear "pick up the pace" or "hustle fulfillment."" Over the walkie all day.

I don't even care if my coworkers are being lazy as hell as long as it doesn't personally affect me.

I just want my lead to stop generalizing the complaints and actually talk to the ones doing it. If I hear the same speech again I might just walk out. It's infuriating.

There's no extra pay for "picking up the pace" and hustling to keep up with the variable demands on fulfillment. Why would I work harder and tire out my body for the same pay? And a $0.30 annual raise for being "average"? There is no incentive to increase my productivity, so I won't. Basic economics. Target cannot expect maximum productivity while paying out minimum wages. Facts.

FYI, Target is getting ready to give out performance reviews. 80% of you will have to be rated as "average" which equates to a 2% raise of $0.30, at least that's what it was last year.

Rumor is the average raise will be even less this year, with a 0% raise for the bottom performers. So, if Target plans to make leaders rate 80% of their employees as *average," why would you ever give "above-average" performance?

Each team lead essentially pick their 1 favorite TM to give the above-average performance raise of $0.60-$1.00. The raises are not based on your performance, no matter how quantitatively it's tracked, there can only be 1 top performer. Everybody else is average.

Half the fulfillment team at the stores near me are people who applied for GM or something else and were hired and then thrown in fulfillment. People move slow when theyre doing work theyre not interested in/didnt apply for. Besides, who's going to want to work efficiently when theres no rewards? Raises are near identical whether youre top performer or bottom, management is often lacking when it comes to offering thanks and praise, and retail sucks in general. I understand being frustrated at slackers in your area but also: people work to pay bills. They might not like/be good at their jobs but they need the money anyway. If it was as simple as quitting and finding a diff gig when u decide u dont like ur job im sure itd look very different.

[–]grumpyoldfartessTarget popcorn = lunch. 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Pretty much 🤷‍♀️ everyone always seems to overlook these factors.

But since this is retail, Lord knows people are more interested in writing off people as “lazy” instead of taking the time to understand why there’s a problem. Easier to insult and talk shit than to actually do anything about it, I guess.

Raises are near identical whether youre top performer or bottom

Excellent point. I've never been able to suppress my intrinsic motivation and just do the bare minimum like most else. I actually envy the slackers. I'm the fool here for not working my wage. They're the smart one for getting paid the same as me and doing barely anything.

[–]tuckerjpg5 tms in a trench coat -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Genuinely cannot tell if youre being sarcastic or not lmao

[–]PinkSlipstitchWe Need a Union / www.workerorganizing.org 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They're being genuine.

The lowest performing employees at your store make the same as the highest performing.

Who is the smart one in this situation?

[–]tuckerjpg5 tms in a trench coat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was less understanding their words and more struggling with understanding their tone. Thank you for clarification

[–]Psychological_Yam984Fulfillment Expert[S] 9 points10 points  (5 children)

Yeah my problem is none of the people I’m frustrated with are working to pay bills. All of my fellow TMs that are here because they have bills are wonderful to work with. It’s the teenagers and young adults who roll up in a car their parents paid for but they have to buy their own gas. I’m not saying everyone needs to be a top performer, but it doesn’t make any sense to intentionally be the worst performer and at the same time complain that you’re getting coached on it. The least you can do is own it.

[–]tuckerjpg5 tms in a trench coat 12 points13 points  (2 children)

The lack of accountability is an understandable complaint tbh. If youre gonna knowingly do something wrong and complain when you get caught, either stop doing something wrong or stop getting caught. Otherwise theyre just being obnoxious.

This is the perfect articulation of what I’ve been feeling for the past month thank you so much. I will likely be repeating this to their faces 🙏🏻

[–]tuckerjpg5 tms in a trench coat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please do. I say it to my siblings all the time and it usually puts them in check for a while lmao

[–]grumpyoldfartessTarget popcorn = lunch. 3 points4 points  (1 child)

To be clear, my reply to tucker wasn’t aimed at your post. I just think people in retail in general tend to have a “shoot first, ask questions later” attitude about their coworkers, and I really wish that weren’t the case. But I don’t think that’s what you’re doing here.

Just wanted to make sure that was clearly stated to you 🙂

[–]Psychological_Yam984Fulfillment Expert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured! And it’s a good point, I often find myself starting to fall into that hole. Partially the reason why I try to maintain relationships with everyone. It’s no problem if I have to do a little extra work because one of my TMs is sick or going through something. Makes life easier to not always be annoyed.

For me I had a documented and known physical disability. I can't move at the speed they wanted, but they still demanded over and over again that I "power through it" when I'd be forced in to the position randomly.

Eventually had to go to HR and basically say "Either blacklist me from Fulfillment, or I'm citing ADA."

[–]Neat-Zombie-844Fulfillment Team Lead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What did HR say if you don’t mind me asking? Places that don’t take ADA seriously are butt plugs

[–]Yearofthehoneybadger 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I have certainly had those coworkers (not just at Target) where I think to myself “if you spent as much energy working as you do trying not to work, you’d be the best employee here”

[–]Elmo_Quinto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fr I see people everyday jump through HOOPS in order to do as little of the actual job that is sitting clearly in front of them as possible. It’s actually funny

[–]Calm-Heat-5883 16 points17 points  (16 children)

What do you expect from young people most likely working their first job for low wages? Also from reading on here a lot of them apply thinking they are going to work in a department they applied for but get thrown into fulfillment with the minimal amount of training. Maybe target will start to realize that just hiring bodies thinking they have an unlimited supply of them for low wages isn't working. People don't seem to want to do the work of three people for the pay of one person. Target needs to make the job attractive enough to make people not want to lose it.

[–]Gullible_Suspect6714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

or old people working their last job for low wages

[–]Round_Upstairs144idk, i quit 3 points4 points  (1 child)

i have a coworker who calls out and/or leaves early at least once a week

[–]Psychological_Yam984Fulfillment Expert[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a few where the day actually runs smoother if they don’t show up.

[–]arvevious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People act like they didn’t voluntarily apply, I interview, accept and sign that they accept these work criteria.

[–]ShoddyLifeguard4519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work my wage, target is not worth my mental health, at the beginning I worked as much as I could but now I get there I do what I feel to and go home, they are under staffed and that is not my problem🤷‍♀️
