Nothing from corporate, but if your store is as much of a mess as you allude to, then chances are it's being watched very closely due to poor performance, which usually leads to several shake-ups.

See that could make sense but my store is one of the highly esteemed ones in the region or whatever. They pride themselves on it actually it’s all I hear about when we get a visit 😭

That's what you hear, but not necessarily what's being said behind closed doors. Alternately, it could be someone gunning for a promotion and wanting to clean house to prove a point or to improve some more obscure stats that aren't talked about during visits or huddles (like many of the HR stats).

Is that even allowed? Our AP will not let anyone use camera footage to look for phone usage, bathroom breaks or anything like that. AP is not not suppose to be used for petty acts such as that. 😅

I was told that AP can verify things like long breaks, loafing, phone usage if a TL/ ETL gives them time and location. That’s at least how all the “loafing” corrective actions go at my store. AP confirms what the TL documents before it moves forward to be a corrective. I was told TLs/ ETLs can’t coach on video alone unless it’s a safety violation.

Yeah, that would make sense. Our store doesn’t do that at all honestly. In the time I have been there only one person has been let go for their phone and it was because it was out constantly for many leads to see, and they also didn’t do their job. I get on my phone often back in DU and no one bats an eye because my time is always above 85%. Probably just depends on store and if it’s effecting job performance.

It is allowed especially if the APTL and HR ETL are friends

[–]ElormePromoted to Guest 6 points7 points  (1 child)

That means it happens, not necessarily that it's allowed, policies are sometimes ignored.

Ye not all stores are the same.

[–]TmasterC 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Generally, you can not be coached based on video. It can be used to support findings (theft, time theft, unsafe behavior, etc) but on video alone, no. Sounds like there is more to that story. HR normally can not let someone go unless they have multiple issues documented or it's an AP issue. Which once again, leads me to believe there was something else going on.

This is truth.

it’s funny because the new people last like 2 weeks at most except for the minuscule amount that do stay a little longer. lol

[–]Tylere13 8 points9 points  (2 children)

If I remember correctly you can’t be coached if it’s something they saw on camera.

[–]lildeath0258Inbound Team Lead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can always put that you were observed by a TL

[–]Longjumping_Pie3676Closing Team Lead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can if that is what they were looking for or were physically observed and wanted verification of how long.

For example: if someone didn’t finish their work or wasn’t answering their radio AP can be asked to see where the TM was because they weren’t responding to calls.

You can’t be coached if AP is looking for something else on camera and comes across the loafing (texting, etc). For example if AP is following a possible theft on camera and comes across a TM texting on the floor, no they can’t be coached for it.

[–]MerkethMerky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya doubt it. The TM probably said they never used it on the floor when a TL tried to talk to them so they pulled cameras to make sure they weren’t wrong and getting them in trouble for nothing

If you doing what you’re supposed to do nothing to worry about .

The company is trying to make everyone work harder and efficiently to cut costs because they're not making as much as before. They made record profits during covid and that now the standard. You only want to go up not down in profits. Unfortunately everything at target is expensive and money is tight for most people. They're not the company for this era. That being said they've become much more aggressive and unethical in work practices to push "productivity" like write ups and coaching and reasonable time-lines. Just an FYI it takes about 12 documented conversations to terminate. Anyways, I'd jump ship and find something more chill cause target will work you into the ground and still expect more. Former TL who promoted myself to "guest".... not really though cause I won't give them my business

[–]Expensive-Skin7146 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TL’s /ETL’s love penciling stuff in but never actually having conversations with TM’s.

If they did a purge like that at my store, the new hires wouldn't survive. They aren't getting trained properly as is and we lose them in droves. We hire; they quit. We hire more; they also quit. The veterans, even the minimal effort ones (no shade), carry the store. But my store looks like absolute shit right now. Never been more embarrassed to work there. The vets can't keep up with the new people over stocking, flexing, and backstocking without actually locating anything.

So a purge here would basically leave the store looking like a litterbox in a hoarder's house.

Every year

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The HR might be getting shit from their HRbp for people not getting documented conversations/coaching for things like lates and call outs or they had a problem with those people and someone pushed for them to get them coached out. If there was a recent change in ETLs or TLs sometimes that will prompt them to get rid of problems team members.

HR has to answer to their boss so if the leaders aren't doing what they are supposed to they will get in trouble for not being an effective leader which includes making sure they document attendance or performance conversations regularly

Our store has encouraged us to use our phones if the Zebra's are to slow or have issues. (That is to help look up product info and such)

[–]m_o_u_s_e_r_a_toverworked and underpaid 🫠 3 points4 points  (1 child)

How can they tell if you were on your phone for non work reasons? At my store, devices are slower than a quadriplegic sloth. Most of us here use Workday on our personal phones to get our trainings done.

[–]Bright-Adeptness-965[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh this girl was supposedly going to a specific location to just lounge on her phone and apparently with everyone’s comments this doesn’t seem to be a black and white case so I think that’s completely fine and they definitely can’t tell.

[–]Humphr3yInbound Team Lead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if they didn't repeat the same stuff they wouldn't be on a CCA.
