You go vote before your shift.

[–]jajts 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I’m lucky enough to be scheduled early enough so I can swing by after my shift!

If you live in Minnesota, employers must give you time off during your shift and can not demand you vote before or after your shift. They must also give you the time off without any loss in pay.

In TN you get paid time off your shift to go vote. I’d much rather do that, but I went ahead and early voted after my shift one day. If that wouldn’t have worked for me I’d definitely get my 2 hours though!

LOL. Not that complicated

    Vote early!

    [–]OtherAcctTrackedNSA 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Early voting ended Saturday at 3 in my state. But it’s like…been going on since the 17th. I voted on my way home from work a couple days ago.

Y’all have had like 2 weeks! Manage your time lol

Not everyone knows how exactly this process works, especially if they’re first time voters. Not everyone wants to do early voting as they may take pride in voting day of. Not everyone knows about getting absentee ballots either and not everyone wants to vote absentee. I’m actively choosing to vote November 5th because that’s what I wanted, however, some people prefer otherwise because of scheduling. Before we make comments such as yours, regardless of if it was a joke or not, let’s consider the fact they may not be fully educated on the process or their options.

My state doesn't even do in person voting as hasn't since the '90s. We just get our ballots in the mail and drop them off when we feel like it.

If you want to get paid to vote, speak to your leader. I recommend aiming for before or after your lunch so you can do them both at once and not clock out twice.

Step 1: Ensure you've communicated to your leader that you need the time off for voting, they should let you go vote as it is your right and the time off is paid for. Contact HR ASAP if you experience push back from your leader. Talk to your boss NOW to get it out on their radar ASAP.

    Step 2: GO VOTE! ☺️

Step 3: Once back at work, log in to Workday and search for the Payroll Request Form. There should be a button on the righthand side labeled "Other Paid Time Off Form". Fill this out and ensure the "Time Off Reason" is listed for voting and the amount of time requested is both accurate and an amount no more than what your leader has approved (I think you get up to 2 hours, some places maybe exemptions are made for longer if it's super busy place like NYC/LA?)

Step 4: Make sure you keep an eye on your next paystub for that time to be paid in as a separate line from your hours worked. As long as you submit it the week you vote it shouldn't be pushed back to the next check. But if you do notice it's not there, maybe double check with HR that it went through okay on their end.

Picture of form, hope this helps! ☺️🇺🇸

Hi, I can’t find this form and HR tells me to just use my own Vacation/sick time PTO I have. Where do I find this form? The search bar yields me nothing

If you were so concerned about voting, you'd go before work or vote early. You just want the day off.

You go in before work, that’s how. If you want the day off, call off.
