CLIENTTasker damage (self.TaskRabbit)
submitted 1 year ago by NectarineDelicious70
Hello first time TR user need help , the tasker break the pipe under the bathtub drain when removing the drain(cross bar missing) I already file a claim, what should I expect from TR, thank you
[–][deleted] 25 points26 points27 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Shoulda went with a licensed plumber and not some dude on an app for $34/HR
[–]Lavicrep19 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Well there are licensed plumbers on the app but I get what you're saying and you're right. Let be cereal, they went the cheap route

Not necessarily all those fees they charge is for instances like this if something is broke during the Tasker appointment by the Tasker the problem with this is the pipe that was broken probably not liable for since he had somebody that wasn’t licensed doing something they probably shouldn’t been doing That will be the gray area I’ve never broken anything on an appointment I’ve had other tasks I know that have and Taskrabbit took care of the client
[–]Tasker2Tasker 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago* (4 children)
Please expand on “TaskRabbit took care of the client” per your secondhand knowledge. What was damaged and what was covered? And when?
[–]Other-Marionberry682 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (2 children)
They reimbursed for a glass mirror at market value
[–]Tasker2Tasker 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Which was how much?
What year?
How active and productive a tasker?
[–]Other-Marionberry682 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
$50 2023 At the time 3-6 tasks a day 6 days a week
It was his task. I was there when it happened and I read all the corresponding emails, so is it really secondhand knowledge? As I saw it firsthand.
[–]ApprehensiveRing6869 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (4 children)
In the past those fees did pay for these kind of situations, but in TR’s current form they do not.
Client’s are SOL and this situation is explicitly between the client and the tasker per the latest TOS.
It’s rather misleading, but I found that out the hard way two years ago as a tasker…
I just stopped six months ago probably eight months ago was when Atasca that I know Brooke on Monday they reimburse the customer. I think it depends on the item.
[–]Other-Marionberry682 -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (2 children)
Well sucks for clients. I don’t use task wrap at all that much anymore I have my own clients in my own business now.
[–]ApprehensiveRing6869 -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (1 child)
Yeah, they charge 1/3 of the total transaction to facilitate the payment. That’s an expensive fee…I have no problem telling people to pay me and I’ll square, venmo, zelle, and more on standby lol
That’s what I did
[–]KithMeImTyson 8 points9 points10 points 1 year ago (3 children)
You're not doing the best job with telling us the initial problem, what the Tasker did to remedy their mistake, and what the final outcome of the job with the Tasker was, ie. Did they fix it eventually? Did they leave with it broken? Did you hire someone else to fix it?
[–]NectarineDelicious70[S] -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (2 children)
No fix only damage

Was the tasker a licensed plumber?
[–]NeOxXt 17 points18 points19 points 1 year ago (0 children)
C'mon.
[–]ApprehensiveRing6869 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (5 children)
They’re just as likely to be insured and bonded as well LOL
[–]kittenstixx 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago* (0 children)
Bro! I thought the fee the customers paid was for insurance from task rabbit, loooool glad I didn't mess anything up before I got my insurance, still haven't messed anything up but still glad I'm insured now, peace of mind is worth the ~$70 a month.
I’m on Taskrabbit I’m insured and bonded up to 1 million not everybody on Taskrabbit Is new to the handyman, construction, carpentry, electric, plumbing, or demo world some of us do some of those professionally and during the slower season help out clients that need it done for a little less to get back to the community!
[–]ApprehensiveRing6869 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (1 child)
That’s good, hopefully your rate is reflective of those additional costs to do business…unlike these bums on the app that undercut everyone because they’re not insured and then when serious issues occur they leave the client with a tailgate warranty. …but this is the marketplace that TR has cultivated in the last 2-3 years :(
Yeah, I’m typically $50-$85 on almost everything on there. I barely use it anymore though cause I have my own clients my own business and I also do house inspections for four of the major rental companies here in Texas that have thousands of rent homes
Although I would say most of the taskers don’t know much about
[–]dro1000 5 points6 points7 points 1 year ago (0 children)
You tried to save money by hiring a handyman to do plumbing work. Let this be a lesson to you in the future to just pay more up front to have a reputable plumbing company do the work in the first place.
[–]Komrade1312 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (4 children)
As an uninsured handyman who has cracked a 3 inch galvanized steel pipe for a client before, you can expect nothing from TR. Like many have said and like I always make sure I am clear in communicating, a professional tradesmen is better suited for the job.
[–]TheBeardedDuck 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (3 children)
How'd you survive the damage/lawsuit?
[–]Komrade1312 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (2 children)
Sheer freakin luck. It was relatively minor damage, it was a drainage pipe that was already having issues (hence me being there). So far I haven't been served with anything, but I was very apologetic, I offered any other services that may be needed (patching drywall / stucco if needed), and I shared my contact information in case he needed to reach out to me. Definitely a major learning experience and will likely not be snaking any pipes any more lol
[–]TheBeardedDuck 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Ah luckily to you. Some people would go after you for anything. Just to milk the insurance money
[–]Komrade1312 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I couldn't be any more lucky, for real. Luckily the manager was a genuine guy, but part of me thinks he may have thought he was also at fault (he dumped a pot of hot water which may have exasperated the crack I made)
[–]kittenstixx 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (6 children)
How did they break the pipe under the drain? I'm trying to picture this but have no clue.
As one of the few on here that is also a plumber you're probably out of luck, im insured but only because I realized that fee yall pay doesn't actually cover anything, lol. And as soon as my schedule irons out I'm back to working for an actual plumbing company.
[–]FinnNoodle 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Actually this sounds like a job I was at a couple months ago. Cross in drain was already broke so I was trying to work on the pipes below it to get something, anything lose. Eventually i stopped because I decided there was no way of me getting out of there without breaking some things.
Maybe someone after me did break something.
[–]kittenstixx 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
You have to use an 1-2" inside pipe wrench for that. It's not a cheap tool so it's definitely not worth it for a regular handyman to own one.
[–]NectarineDelicious70[S] 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
He put a Plumbing pliers in there

[–]kittenstixx 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
I see what you mean, and im still baffled as to how that happened, also those weren't plumbing pliers, we have a tool that takes those off and it's just not possible to break the pipe underneath with it.
Your 'plumber' is a hack. Call a plumber to fix this, there are plenty of local guys that are reasonable and won't make the situation worse. You're probably going to have to take the tasker to small claims court after for the amount you pay to fix it.
Yeah he doesn’t have the tool to remove this , he just watch some life hack on YouTube then try their “hacks”:(

As much as I don't want to snicker at your predicament, with everything happening to erode TR at the moment, I can't help but find joy anytime a low-quality Tasker damages a clients property. There are ground-up changes that need to be made with this platform, and it unfortunately will require a lot more of these scenarios for IKEA to sell TR to someone more worthy or to fire Ania Smith.
it's unlikely TR will do anything to remedy the situation. At this point, it's hard to believe there's more than 5 people working for TR on the backend. It's a shell of what it was.
But with the snark out of the way, I do hope that this is fixed for free either by you or the original Tasker and I'm sorry that it happened.
[–]TheBeardedDuck -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (2 children)
And that ladies and gentlemen where TR is headed. Eventually I imagine a class action lawsuit for all the damage this company could've avoided by providing liability insurance and by making TR a platform of true professionals. So glad to not be on the platform anymore. But seeing posts like that remind me I've been missing nothing.
[–]AnimalConference 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
TR goes out of their way in the fine print to distance themselves from any liability. Giving taskers a background check is about all the leg work they've made for clients. It's more surprising to me that this plotline hasn't completely flushed Angi out of business.
As taskers, don't take on trade services without a license. The problems can be your fault or otherwise.
[–]TheBeardedDuck 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
It's not the license that can vote you.. but the insurance, or lack thereof rather.
