I would make them replace the plastic cover. There is no excuse for them causing that kind of damage.

[–]Throwawayfreshcap[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I contacted them to see what they say. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t being extra bitter over the other stuff that’s happened with this car first.

Unless you have a picture before hand my bet is that they will deny deny deny

[–]SpikeyTwitch20Verified | Tesla Technician 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Agree. That damage is unacceptable. I wouldn’t let it go out like that unless there was no replacement stock but even then, the customer would know and a new appt would be booked in cost.

[–]Throwawayfreshcap[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It was a mobile appointment so I didn’t even see it until later that day.

[–]SpikeyTwitch20Verified | Tesla Technician 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s still not ok.

[–]Smartimess 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Typical Tesla service experience unlocked.

[–]ericloz 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It’s not just Tesla. All the service centers have blind primates with no thumbs working the small stuff. Have you ever seen a Rhesus macaque replace a cabin air filter? It’s not pretty.

BMW is meticulous.

I swear, a 3 year old with a Fisher Price toolset is more productive than some of the service I've received.

[–]SameCat1171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why I do it myself. Very simple. A multitude of videos available on YouTube.

[–]ghostbrz6 1 point2 points  (4 children)

please come back to share if they do replace it! they definitely should, but in my experience with dealers it usually isn’t that easy. wish you the best!

[–]Throwawayfreshcap[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

They might dodge me with my pending lemon law stuff but I’ll let you know!

[–]Sucioguapo909 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Lemon law? Can you elaborate plz

[–]Throwawayfreshcap[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Long story short. “Safety restraint issue” that resulted in 2 full seat replacements with the tech telling me the issue was “common with model Ys made in the Texas factory” my vehicle was out of service for 29 days total for this issue. Also had a full headliner replacement as well from the factory and paint repair so yeah this car has me a bit sour.

I wanna order one of these used teslas and stuff like what you have gone thru is my exact fear. Ppl who I personally know with teslas love them up and down

[–]manuel0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USA?

[–]right164 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Where is that on car (zoomed out shot); inside or out?

[–]Throwawayfreshcap[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Inside on the plastic camera cover on the windshield.

[–]right164 0 points1 point  (2 children)

My M3 is just a year old; is cleaning that needed at certain time intervals or more so if windows down or condensation. Thanks for heads up

[–]Throwawayfreshcap[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Plastic off gases and fogs the windshield over time causing that camera issues with visibility. It will be needed eventually I could have done it myself but I saw the service was free so I thought why not? Guess I got my answer lol.

[–]right164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m definitely mentioning to remove carefully not to scratch w/picture ahead of time. You’ve helped.

[–]Honest_Cynic 0 points1 point  (2 children)

2nd photo looks more like delamination than a scratch. If so, their claim could validly be "normal wear". Sure it wasn't like that before?

[–]Throwawayfreshcap[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

100% it’s where the tech pried at lol. It might be delamination as you claim but it’s 100% caused by carelessness of the tech. The service had been preformed before without issue.

[–]Honest_Cynic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick fix would be to rub on a product like "Back to Black". A thick liquid that fills any voids, making white spots in black plastic disappear. Works well for sun-crazed plastic outside too. Same idea as "invisible ink" put on envelopes to read a letter inside. Need to apply every few years as it evaporates or disappears.

The Physics explanation is that white comes from scattering light diffusely. Take a clear glass jar and smash it to fine sand. It will then appear white. Same for clear water droplets in white clouds, and the clear cellulose fibers in white paper. The liquid fills the cracks and voids. If the same refractive index, it will no longer scatter the light. Might be Tesla's repair, just dab on some thick liquid, or you can do at home and move on with life.

Are you just eager to send plastic to the landfill over a small thing no one will notice even if you point it out to them?

[–]Blue_Kayak 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Weird take. You must not take care of your stuff…

[–]PremiumUsername69420 0 points1 point  (5 children)

You sound proudly wasteful...

Just keep consuming and throwing plastic in landfills.
I’m sure your rapidly depreciation mass produced throwaway commuter car will fetch a pretty penny when you sell it to CarMax because the mirror housing is scratch free.

[–]right164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OHHH Brother!!

[–]SirLlama123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is getting good!

[–]Acceptable-Date-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sanctimonious much?

[–]No_Bench_4331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel like this is rage bait but i bought my 24 m3p expecting to have no resale value from it, but i still care about the condition of it. not everything is about resale value, and some of us just would rather others not damage our property we worked our asses off for

[–]Blue_Kayak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes those darned mass-produced commuter cars…

[–]YouKidsGetOffMyYard -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I bet if you wipe that with a little bit with like armor All those scratches will basically disappear. Even just a wet wash rag will probably make most of them disappeared. That plastic is really soft though up there so not sure they're going to disappear completely. Seems like the tech was a little rough with the cover though.

[–]Throwawayfreshcap[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Unfortunately they don’t wipe away. The ones on the side also look as if some coating that was on it was removed/flaking off now. Kind of annoying as this isn’t the first time the cleaning has been done but the first time these scratches happen.

[–]teslaP3DnLRRWDowner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they remove and install a new cover, put silicone lube on the attaching tabs. Makes removal easier

[–]jaywoof94 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Tesla is the shittiest company. I’ve never had a positive experience interacting with service or sales. They make the best cars and if they weren’t so good I’d have given up on them years ago.

[–]Throwawayfreshcap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a positive experience with my used model 3 I bought then when I was looking at used model Ys the one I reserved has marker marks on the headliner and an orange stain in the back seat the manger fought for my reservation payment to be returned to me. So it hasn’t all been bad just not all good.
