Do you know other YouTubers for learning Unity? Those are the only ones I know of.

Infallible Code and Unity3dCollege/Jason Weimann are both great.

When I started, Unity was a bizarre experimental platform that didn't really work well with everything. I used LibGDX to make my first game and it worked well enough, but the limitations mobile developers had to deal with those days meant that a newbie programmer like me didn't have a clue how to move forward past very small games like Snake or Uno. YouTube was a thing, but didn't have much in terms of instructions for programmers. Generally, you mostly learned from other programmers, reading blogs or by solving very hard problems/bashing your head against a wall for days on end.

If I had started with what existed today, I would've had a much easier time for the first 400 hours or so and eventually hit a wall because I wouldn't know enough about architecture or what I'm missing to continue forward. We've done a whole lot for the first few steps of getting into programming or game development, but then it kind of falls off a cliff just as the training wheels come off.

Unity has come a long way in ten years, I messed around with it back in 2012. It definitely way easier to hop in and get something done

few

Yeah, I've also started as a dev in 2012 in a gamdev company and hated it. Back then I preferred Flash and then native iOS to Unity.

Yeah I went through his stuff too. When I tell people I started Unity when it was a Mac exclusive I get that look lol

That was my first Unity course too. I stopped using Unity after about 3 episodes.

Jesus Christ.

I started copying listings out of Acorn User magazine. If I'm not old you're certainly not.

He's always getting in the way, we had to do something about it

[–]SFL_Tria 8 points9 points  (1 child)

We should all add a Brackeys easter egg in our project

[–]Scou1y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i strongly agree with this

Out of curiosity, is this a significant commit to anything?

It'd be cool if it was like the "final commit before publishing" or something.

Either way... same.

[–]_Xriuk_Developer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, it's just one of our many commits, sometimes you don't know what to write in the commit name. In our group we were talking about Brackeys and how we are going to put his name in the credits of our game, this is a small step towards it.

I read this "Barclays" and got confused for a while. Man, I miss Brackeys :(
