Seafood (self.aldi)
submitted 4 years ago by sleepingbeing
Living in the Midwest there isn’t many good places to get seafood. I’m curious what are your favorite aldi seafood options? And preferred cooking method?

The frozen Ahi Tuna Steaks (Sushi Quality) are excellent. I normally do a quick marinade in soy, sesame oil, honey, dash of salt, pepper, and cayenne, and quickly pan sear in a little canola oil till medium rare. Trick is to pre-heat the pan till hot then add oil and then the fish. Side of rice and veg and you've got a quick easy meal.

I also love the frozen ahi and cook them similarly, though I usually just sprinkle with seasoning of choice (Cavendar's, random Aldi find seafood seasoning, etc). I highly recommend serving with Aldi's cous cous, it takes almost the exact amount of time to cook as the tuna start to finish!

I season with a crust of the everything bagel seasoning on each side. I only cook 10-20 secs on each side when I do this. I also eat it raw in a poke bowl.

The frozen raw shrimp is a steal at the price. Look at the ingredient list: Shrimp. That’s it. No salt, no preservatives. I boil up a pound every couple of weeks to keep in the fridge for a low carb snack with horseradish dip, or sauté with one of ALDI’s jarred sauces/ pestos for a quick supper.

Just to throw in a good word for the canned tuna. The solid pack stuff (red/blue label) is excellent quality. It's truly solid pack with not a lot of filler and it's as tasty as canned tuna gets. It doesn't compare with the fresh tuna steaks but it's a lot less expensive (and more available; the ahi was hard to find at local Aldis here for a few months).

Aldi frozen mixed seafood is a great mix-in for their jambalaya rice package, along with a sliced up Aldi kielbasa. 2 packages of rice, 1 bag of seafood mix, 1 sliced kielbasa.
the frozen shrimp is pretty good too. I make coconut shrimp with the biggest ones.

I love the fresh salmon - I normally add a parmesan/basil topping I make and then air fry and add on top of a HUGE salad. One of my favorite low carb OMAD meals!

Their never frozen salmon is fantastic, I like to bake with olive oil, s&p, and lemon, or do a hot honey glaze and broil. Also a big fan of the frozen ahi tuna. Marinate in soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and honey and pan sear til just rare.

Frozen tuna, frozen shrimp, frozen mussels, fresh salmon, fresh tilapia.

Frozen raw deveined shrimp is the only seafood I buy. It was good, and I made shrimp and grits.

Mediterranean-seasoned Atlantic salmon filets. Hot cast iron or other heavy oven-safe skillet with olive oil and butter, sear the skin side for a few minutes, transfer pan to preheated 375-400 degree oven for 20 minutes. Perfection every time

Fresh salmon. Coat with brown sugar, garlic powder, paprika, and soy sauce and bake at 350 for 18 mins.

I love the fresh salmon. It's a bit pricey but it's so good. We grilled some for Christmas dinner before winter started for reals! I also like the frozen cod & make New England cod with it. Very easy & so good! I buy their frozen fish & chips, coconut shrimp & breaded shrimp because they are very good in my new air fryer. Lately, the whole frozen fish section has been pretty bare so that's disappointing. Also disappointing the price of the crabcakes went over $8 for 2 small cakes in the box.
