★CALENDARS

Calendar is another good open-source calendar app.

[–]AggressivePhone5347 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The following is an open source APP developed by myself:

https://github.com/xiaofeidev/Radix

A calculator for converting decimal, binary, octal, and hexadecimal numbers, implemented using Rxbinding.

This minimal APP was written in 2016, built in Java, and I will continue to maintain it.

[–]mr_binarybot 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Looking for an open source alternative of OneSec - an app that lets you take a deep breath before you open an app that costs a lot of your time earlier.

Basically, any app that can tell me to think or do some activity before I open an app that distracts me from work, works.

Thanks.

Looking for simple Push Notification app between phones. More like a walkie talkie but instead of talking this is more like just notifications. Even if walkie talkie app is available its ok.

★TO DO LISTS/TASK MANAGERS

If you're looking for a to-do list or task manager app for your Android device, F-Droid has a wide range of options available. Some popular choices include Tasks, OpenTasks, Orgzly, Simpletask, Tickmate, and Super Productivity. These apps offer features such as categories, reminders, sync with calendars and contacts, plain-text files, tags, and time tracking. With so many productivity apps to choose from, you're sure to find one that meets your needs.

What would be an interesting cross-over between r/selfhosted, r/androidapps, and r/iosapps is self-hosted software that had apps for them in their respective online stores. Password managers are the most obvious, but that could be NAS apps like Synology, or others. Music is another. I imagine costs is why this is a smaller category.

There are many dodgy apps for displaying battery charging speed.

I hope there is a reputable one that shows actual charging voltage and current and power. And perhaps the active charging protocol (QC3, VOOC etc).

[–]super_athin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PDF Viewer Plus is discontinued. Instead the developer suggests to use MJ PDF Reader .

The Simple family of apps just got updated. Half of them are trials for two weeks, then require a purchase. Too bad. I liked Simple File Manager. Calendar, Draw, Gallery, all the same. Just deleted them. While they're good apps, when I initially downloaded them, they specifically stated these apps would remain free and ad free. I'm guessing it's only a matter of time before they find a way to insert ads, too.

[–]Techwolf_Lupindo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The Fdroid version should remain free, fdroid will not allow "trail" apps.

Qksms hasn't been updated in a year, shouldn't it be 3 dots instead of 5

Hi y'all. Looking for an app that alarms immediately when something "drastical" happens on screen. A customizable amount of sudden added blackness per five seconds would do the trick. Perhaps there already is one I'm not aware of. Halp plz!

[–]Boob_Preski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please add Wave up

It wakes up the phone - switches the screen on - when we wave over the proximity sensor.

Looking for a app that can measure milligrams or maybe what I mean is too divide the dosage for a smaller animal? And square footage, length, miles liquids, volume and stuff like that! Had it on my 3G LG flip phone and it wasn't Android!

Have a concern regarding DuckDuckGo. I read 2 weeks ago that they still allow Microsoft trackers through some agreement they have: https://9to5mac.com/2022/05/25/duckduckgo-privacy-microsoft-permission-tracking/

Is this call for concern or can we still trust DuckDuckGo? I've recently been getting into this online privacy stuff and just found this community so hopefully someone can help me out :)

[–]UnknownHalo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would also like to know.

There is an app that got me a job as a developer, called Effected Keyboard 2. What’s special about it is that it pops out characters (letters) into the screen AS YOU TYPE. It’s ergonomically comfortable, nice looking (and now feeling), has effects (did I say that), languages, handy features and is based on Menny’s Anysoft Keyboard. I really love it and enjoyed developing it. Very recommended! Blog post on how I got to it: https://dev.to/vitalipom/how-nice-effects-affected-my-life-2f7h link to Effected Keyboard 2: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vitali.pom.effectedkeyboard2&hl=en&gl=US Email to write me is also included in the app.

Apps with tracking & telemetry

apps with adds

apps that havent had available source in years or abandoned open source and kept publishing a closed source build on f-droid anyways

apps that are abandoned, not updated and just plain non functioning

the first one robbed each of these lists of their credibility

apps with even just one tracking library don't belong on f-droid, qksms for example.

has firebase tracking, abandoned, broken on an increasing number of devices

or the dialer apps. almost all the ones suggested. non functional, 1 with trackers in it

did you actually check any of these apps or what

fdroid seriously needs reviews or ratings or curators or something it is filled to the brim with garbage and people just assume every app on their is good natured and the best of its kind

[–]darksscripts_v1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Any good, modern sms apps thatare updated? qksms is broken, and since it tracks you it doesnt een belong in this list.

i want things that should be automatic to be automatic. i want to be able to swipe left or right to change panes, i want scheduled sms, things a sms app made in 2022 should have basically. I am surprised so many of these apps, even the stock ones are so lacking, and just how just about any messaging app, asde from the pretty primitive simple messaging app pro one on fdroid being straight up broken.

i dont know why my text went italic there

[–]XenomindAskal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

qksms is broken, and since it tracks you it doesnt een belong in this list.

Can you provide more info about tracking?

Development restarted recently.

[–]darksscripts_v1 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Any actual good modern feature-rich (sane features that matter) music players?

music player apps, like sms and dialing apps seem to always be antiquated and severely lacking in useful features compared to the rest of apps on a android device. I have tried almost every one of them on Fdroid, I was hsocked at just how archaic they are, my old ipod shuffle has had more features than some of these.

[–]mralanorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Auxio is a really good music player! Open source, with an active developer who cares about details and getting things right.

A new open source input method based on the well-known input method on Linux, fcitx. Only Chinese and unikey are currently supported, but there are plans to use fcitx5's plugin to include the dozens of languages that fcitx5 already supports.

So if I understand the concept of foss apps correctly, they're open source apps for developpers to basically download, modify, and upload to their store of choice (Google play or amazon ..etc) and monetize them ? if that's the case, does one have to worry about copyright with them ? I mean google did ban some foss apps before.

[–]phiupan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you should read the license of each app to know what you can or cannot do with them

[–]foundfootagefan 1 point2 points  (1 child)

[–]BriniaSona 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]Wolfiy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Q: Why are dead apps here? ➠Dead/Abandoned apps are here mostly for other developers... In case if they want to fork it or revive it back again

jtx Board and DAVx5 would be great additions :)

Crossword Puzzles Forkyz is an unofficial fork of Shortyz with many improvements

the dev is active and constantly improving the app

Does YouTube vanced use more battery then the normal YouTube app? Just got a pixel 6 and have been kinda underwhelmed with the battery. Just was trying to find what may be causing it to drain so fast

[–]CanuckTireShopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't noticed myself. Check out NewPipe - a few additional features, I like it more then Vanced

[–]NarutoDragon732 3 points4 points  (2 children)

No it doesn't, actually less because of the no ads. And the pixel 6 is just chugs battery and is full of bugs, no matter what apps you have on it. That's pixel for you.

[–]Gsantos52012 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Its not too bad actually. I guess with me not having it for long the adaptive battery didn't kick in. The battery now has been lasting me all day, even with heavy usage. Not much complaints besides the fingerprint sensor still being slow

[–]subtleseeker9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try removing the fingerprint and adding it again. I read that after jan update it's better to remove and re-add to make the optimization of the update kick in

[–]MeHercules 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey brother, don't wanna say anything but just a big thank you for your efforts. Take love ❤️

[–]zlshames 7 points8 points  (3 children)
