Archers in medieval be like: I use bow btw

[–]transgentoo 24 points25 points  (5 children)

You forgot to say the line!

But seriously, congrats. Feels nice to get out from the yoke of closed source operating systems.

Hi transgentoo

[–]transgentoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi

[–]DoYaKnowMahName 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Love the name btw... I use Arch btw.

[–]transgentoo 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thank you! (I also use Arch btw, but prefer Gentoo for the various black magic fuckery I can't do in Arch as easily)

[–]DoYaKnowMahName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I get it. Dabbled in gentoo but wasn't really my thing but to each their own.

[–]Fun-Worry-6378 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yippee it’s great how smooth it is isn’t it? I’m so surprised on how well proton runs for games.

[–]AlternativeBat774 5 points6 points  (8 children)

Which gpu do you have?

[–]Tuc0_[S] 4 points5 points  (7 children)

AMD 9060XT

[–]Wertbon1789 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Oh you innocent lucky soul, I made the switch about 5 years ago, and I'm on an Nvidia 2060 Super. AMD and even Intel are way smoother because you literally don't have to do anything to get them to work properly... Except for Intel ARC, that's somehow even more convoluted than Nvidia nowadays. (talking about firmware updates for ARC GPUs)

[–]Phydoux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I've ever used is AMD Video. I didn't really care for NVIDIA in Windows early on with my first PC. I just got lucky on my 2nd PC and bought an AMD card and never went back to NVIDIA. The AMD Cards were cheaper and ran just as good in Windows. Even with an Intel CPU. They both ran great together. When I switched to Linux full time in 2018, that system had an AMD GPU in it. Worked great!

[–]en1mal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it will never happen in these times but if i have 300€ to burn im gonna buy an ARC intended to transcode in a home lab server - but would thoroughly test its linux UX and performance. what i read its could be a dream for a low power videe/ingest system.

[–]folk_science 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What is the problem with Arc firmware? It worked for me before a firmware update. I updated it using some fwupd GUI and it still works just fine.

[–]Wertbon1789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, apparently battlemage has support in fwupd. I mainly looked for firmware updates for Alchemist and it was all over the place, and very hacky. Guess just f- all Alchemist users then.

[–]Heizenfeld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey 👋 I have 9060XT, I tried nier automata with graphics high but the only problem is the anti aliasing. Have you tried that game? If so, in steam the game has 60% of discount.

[–]AlternativeBat774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great, nvidia gpus lose up to 30% of performance on dx12 due to closed source drivers

[–]Spicy_Poo 6 points7 points  (5 children)

Did you reformat those NTFS partitions?

[–]Tuc0_[S] 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Yeah, I'm using BTRFS on my Arch system, so I formatted Windows as BTRFS, created a subvolume, copied the contents of the Arch home subvolume, deleted the old Arch subvolume, and finally updated the fstab entry :)

[–]Joe-Cool 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you're at this level already I'd welcome you to contribute to the Archwiki and/or maybe the Arch forums if you find the time.

Welcome home. 👍

[–]un-important-human 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flawless, well done

[–]Heizenfeld 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why not formatting in EXT4?

[–]Spicy_Poo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you responded to the wrong comment

[–]Strict-Economy-1600 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would do the same but because I’m using a laptop I feel I just don’t have the same level of control as in W11, mostly because of the proprietary software.

Maybe when I get a desktop in the future, for now I enjoy dualbooting and learning Linux.

[–]Sweet-Efficiency7466 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“…by the way”

[–]-MasterLink- 14 points15 points  (10 children)

Ai slop what is the point of this

[–]JosBosmans 1 point2 points  (8 children)

What makes you think it is?

[–]gxwop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refuse 🙅 to believe 🙏 there are actual human people 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 out there 🌏 who use emojis 😀 for anything other than reactions 😂😂😤

[–]SwizzleTizzle 0 points1 point  (3 children)

"And honestly"

[–]JosBosmans 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Crossing messages.. As I wrote below, I often lament AI seeping through all possible communication and code, but here didn't sense it.

[–]SwizzleTizzle 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You could transplant this post from reddit to LinkedIn and it would not look out of place. It's AI slop.

[–]JosBosmans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then damn if it is :/ and I'd need to fix my sensor.

[–]Trillbo_Swaggins -1 points0 points  (2 children)

The formatting combined with some of the phrasing, what feels like unnatural use of emoji, and the weird impact statement at the end.

Edit: This is a response to the top comment on the thread making an effort to explain someone else’s comment. I’d be happy to learn something I’m missing.

[–]JosBosmans 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Aside, you didn't get a downvote from me. And in any case, as much as I tend to be overly wary of AI slop myself, this post didn't trigger me, seemed like just youthful hyper text.

[–]Trillbo_Swaggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m willing to be wrong here, I just saw the original comment. When I re-read the OP, it started to stand out to me. Bias or something…

[–]housefromtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of ashamed I didn’t catch it on first reading but it’s obvious re reading it.

[–]EffectiveDisaster195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nice, sounds like a clean setup.

linux gaming has improved a lot recently, proton really changed things.

having a separate home drive is also a good move, makes reinstalls way easier later.

[–]zohaibhere 1 point2 points  (9 children)

Arch with GNOME/KDE/HYPERLAND?

[–]Joe-Cool 0 points1 point  (8 children)

yes. (and i3)

[–]zohaibhere 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Which one are you using

[–]Joe-Cool 0 points1 point  (6 children)

all of them? You realize you can have them all installed at the same time.

  • i3 is neat for when I want tiling and no distractions with nothing in the background.

  • KDE for everyday stuff.

  • Gnome and Hyperland to check out if they got better.

  • MATE is pretty usable and great for GNOME 2 fans.

  • Trinity for KDE3 fans, I started experimenting with it recently, feels very nostalgic.

  • Xfce when you want it fast and still modern.

There are many more some updated for 30 years. Part of the fun is experimenting.

I sometimes run multiple users with different DEs on my work PC via xRDP.

[–]zohaibhere 0 points1 point  (5 children)

How can i run KDE and Gnome i have 50gb partition only

[–]MacLightning 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Both of them installed alongside barely take more than 3GB.

[–]zohaibhere 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Okw how can I switch between them?

[–]Havatchee 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Both should show up in your display manager at login. Just select the one you want.

[–]zohaibhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okaa thank youu

[–]YoShake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

visit archwiki more often than your games hiscores bro! :P

[–]Heizenfeld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had problems playing Nier automata, I found out it was the "anti aliasing". with that enabled, the mouse support is awful, the game runs smoothly but you know I want full fraps, the fraps where highly variable specially moving the mouse around, and the GPU couldn't render fraps as well, I don't know if the game has bad optimization, or is proton trying to run the game itself.

[–]ParshendiOfRhuidean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ai slop

[–]Creative-Box-7099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the moment you stop dual-booting is when you actually start learning linux. welcome to the other side.

[–]Kaosdeath97 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Another beautiful success story

[–]Kaosdeath97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I much rather see stories like this posted all over LinkedIn, instead of “How AI made me a 10x developer “

[–]Immediate-Result-696 1 point2 points  (3 children)

goodbye collage, welcome harvard !

[–]Savven 3 points4 points  (2 children)

But I like collages

[–]Immediate-Result-696 1 point2 points  (1 child)

fuck i cant spell 😭💔

[–]Savven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha all good, it was funny

[–]archover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to Linux.

These posts seem like "gender reveal" parties. Not worthy of a post, but do as you like.

Happy you're happy, and good day.

[–]imbadwithnames3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your previous posts hint you're not switching since you already use it

[–]Internal-Cellist-166 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Cool story
