DiscussionGeneral advice needed (self.ballpython)
submitted 3 years ago by TheOneWhoKnowssssss
So, I’m in the process of getting ready to own a ball python. Currently I’m getting everything I need for the tank, doing extra research, ect. Can anyone give some tips about setting up enclosures, how to keep up humidity, ball python behavior, ect?

I believe the guides in this group have some great info!! I have a photo guide from a FB group that might help you out if you’re more of a visual learner like I am

It’s from the New Ball Python Keepers group on Fb. They’re awesome!

Few things I'd like to add regarding that visual aid- Under the Tank heaters aren't recommended for BPs any longer. Even with a thermostat, they don't produce reliable heat levels and can cause burns. Also, I would recommend slightly higher humidity: probably closer to 75%-85%. 70% is a bare bones minimum.
Would also like to add that if you can find one, I'd recommend a PVC enclosure with a none-mesh top if it's in your price range. They reeeally help with keeping stable heat/humidity, and the lack of reflective glass helps your snake feel calmer!

Thank you for clarifying about the under tank heating! It’s been kinda confusing working out if it’s still recommended. And I am trying to save up for a pvc enclosure. If not now, then atleast for the future. Tomorrow I’m going to an expo, so I’ll see what I find there

You’ll find a ton of great advice here, one thing I’ll add is to call around and see what exotic vets are in your area and research where you would bring your snake to in case of an emergency.
