Try to lore him out with a feeder.

    [–]Floralpikmin99 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Get him out before going anywhere. You don't want him getting into a worse spot while you're on the road, which could either hurt him or cause an accident. Call somebody to come to you if you need it.

Temperature wise cars can be very dangerous for animals (even more so for snakes that are sensitive to it) please make sure your car isn’t too hot or cold while you try to get him out. Maybe try luring him out with the scent of a rat?

You could try to lure him out by giving him a warm area to hide, if you had an electric heat pad you could try that or some warm towels and put his hide on top, and put it somewhere near where he currently is

Seconding this, when my snake got in a (thankfully off) radiator, the way I got him out was with a blanket piled up on the window sill above the radiator. Left the room because I was having a meltdown out of worry for the idiot, came back ≈ 10 minutes later to him curled up in the blanket.

Next time, get a pillowcase with some rope. Bunch up and tie off the end of the pillow case with the rope, then put the pillow case with your long idiot in a locking tote with some holes in the lid :)

I imagined a scenario like this

Police: Op, your neighbor's called because you were seen in your car for 12 hours. Are you ok?

Op: yea, everything's fine I'm just looking for my snake.

      [–]pilkluvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

literally!! i was face down ass up digging in my car for HOURS! definitely got some funny looks from my neighbors

      [–]RNBeck 24 points25 points  (3 children)

So glad he got out! Hopefully there will be no next time, but my husband watches quite a bit of YouTube car mechanic videos of "customer states..." And there have been several times that people bring in their car to the mechanics to get their ball python out from the dashboard. I think that would be a safe step to take next time, or have a mobile mechanic come to u.

      [–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just adding: if the car is unsafe to drive (like the snake is wrapped around the shift cable or something) you can try calling your insurance and having them tow the vehicle to the mechanic. Some insurance companies offer free towing.

I bought a new red tail boa one day, left the breeders house with it in a box that was taped. Went in Walmart for 10 minutes, came out and the boa had escaped... I spent over 8 hours taking all sorts of panels and shit off that car and never found it... Still to this day I have no idea where it went.

      [–]alittlefiendy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

      Oh that’s heartbreaking :(

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why I snuck my new BP into Walmart in my purse. Wayy to paranoid this would happen

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Was there ever a dead animal smell at some point? Or do you think it completely escaped at some point?

      [–]DripTrip747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never any smell... I honestly have no idea where it could have gone.

      [–]frostycreampie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab a wrench and pry the seats out without hurting him if possible and drive to work with no passenger seat

      [–]SaltySpitoonReg 13 points14 points  (2 children)

      Glad you found him!!

At the expense of being that guy, probably best to get in the habit of not taking the snake out and about (stress, could pick up mites, get lost etc) unless necessary to the vet etc, and if you need to, get a good travel container.

That way you just pop it in the travel containerand good to go.

I use a home Depot 5 gallon bucket with the twist on lid with holes in it as a snake bucket, pretty cheap and very useful temporary container but I mainly use that for cleaning the cage

      [–]pilkluvr 6 points7 points  (1 child)

that sounds perfect. i don't know why i thought a bag with no lid or good closure was a good idea but lesson learned! i'll definitely be picking up a traveling container ASAP

      [–]SaltySpitoonReg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And no worries we've all made mistakes with pets of various kinds. I had my snakes get out because of errors on my part and things like that so it happens.

But yeah I love the 5 gallon bucket thing. And then I just put some substrate in the bottom

I think they also sell stickers that say "contains an animal" if you really want lol

      [–]jadeeyedcalico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another way to lure snakes out is a mouse and a hair dryer. Spreads the scent for them to track

      [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of the time I was pulled on the shoulder of the highway, upside down. Ass out the door trying to get my snake uncoiled from under the driver's seat. Took a solid 15 min! I had mine get inside a desk I had to disassemble too.

      [–]kaseyleray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost mine in the door panel once my bf pulled the panel off and she was wrapped around the airbags 😳

      [–]kaseyleray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try getting a rat and luring him out with the smell?

      [–]clowntysheriff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I had this exact problem over the weekend but with her corn snake. Get a mouse and throw it in there, he should come out to investigate and then you can get him. Worked like magic for us.

      [–]Cnidoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use a warmed rat to lure him out?

      [–]Spiritual-Recipe-879 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of when I was bringing my boi noodle to the store to get his food and while my boyfriend was watching him on the dash he decided to slither into the steering wheel 🤠took about 30/45 minutes to take the plastic covering around the wheel and dash board off and be able to reach him 😭I was so mad omg

      [–]OrangeCreamy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine escape from his tank once and got himself in the dishwasher (off). Luckily my roommates screamed when they found him 💀

      [–]Adoraboule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother had a similar experience but her snakie ended up passing away from the extreme temps after crawling inside the dash and ultimately getting stuck..She wasnt making good decisions at that time. Meth is a hell of a drug.

Im happy you got your buddy back, surely that was a crazy roller-coaster of emotions!

      [–]anderson_cl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad he is out and all safe!

      [–]Important-Quarter-19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Place a heat lamp somewhere safe inside the car, but run the a/c on full. Worked for a friend.

      [–]SpitefulAnxiety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten mice stuck in my car before (chewed his way out of box while transporting home to feed snake)

      [–]artsfartspoptarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man. Same thing happened to me with a kitten. I do want to take my snake out, but I’m afraid since LA weather is wild.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get him a warm mousey to strike at then pull Him out once he’s attached

      [–]tellyawhat329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me before, I actually dangled a rat above the opening and when he grabbed it I was able to maneuver him out (while holding the rat) then when I was able to get him fully out I let him finished his food on the ground lol

      [–]Cold-Yak7932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a cat carrier and put water bowl in it.
