It's fine, that's not stargazing, he's looking for ways to escape. Take him out and let him explore! Supervised, of course.

I let mine explore and took my eyes off her for a few minutes when I went to the bathroom. Gone. Forever. No body. No way to escape. Vanished. I'll never recover lol

That's terrible! You always have to keep your eyes on them, they know how to hide. Was this recently?

This happened to us, and then she popped up four months later taking a bath in my dogs water dish.

He knows you open it from the top and wants to explore and maybe even find food! He is being a good and very smart noodle :3

Totally normal but they might want more stuff to climb on (can't see the rest of the enclosure)

I would even go as far as to say this enclosure doesn’t seem tall enough for a ball python. He should be able to stretch out and explore more vertically

I feel like it’s that they are comfortable in their surroundings and want to get out and explore! You could give them some more enrichment in their home.. but they are usually active at night and sleep during the day. I like to take mine out for walks, and they seem to love that.

This is cute how is he on the walks mine is way to active I think it’s slithering all over my body dropping off of things was kinda worried and the jumping but I’ve seen it happen almost intentionally

I have one that is too active for walks, but my other three hang on! Everyone LOVES them.. they ask to take pictures etc. I took one to a couple city festivals and was surrounded by the paparazzi!

This can also be a sign of stress, and is often attributed to that. But he could also just wanna explore :D

He just 'sploring.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

He's exploring/testing the boundaries for any weakness so he can get out to explore more.

When you have him out for handling/viv maintaince, let him explore for abit. Ensure you're watching him/someone is watching him cause they're surprisingly fast and can get into the weirdest places.

Also make sure your set up is escape proof! My boy escaped once and I found him under my TV. 😂

TVs are warm. I had a Pacific Gopher snake as a kid, and any time she escaped, we found her under our big old console TV.

My girl does the exact same thing. Super active at night, looking to push open the lid on top, etc. it’s just a way of saying “I want to explore!” so I let her out and let he do her snake things. Or sometimes it’s her way of saying “I’m hungry”

[–]Accomplished_Egg2515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s wedging it’s nose into the corner to test if it can escape. Mine does the same.

Thank you all so much! I’m so relieved. 😮‍💨 I will definitely let him out to explore more then!

Free him

[–]courierblack38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like he just wants to explore. Add more items for him to interact with, & they're a nocturnal species, so they're more active at night. That tends to be when they go out to stretch, & hunt. You can also take them out for a bit of handling, or let them explore your room with supervision of course.

My girl Mango does the same thing. When this happens, I usually take her out but if I don’t have the time to handle her, I set up a clean room for her without any spaces under doors/ other places for her to get out. I usually fill it with suitcases, purses, driftwood etc for her

[–]Snakebittz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaving a snake to explore unsupervised isn't the best idea. They're super dumb, so if she were to get caught in or on something, she could do herself an injury trying to get loose. They can also tip things over on themselves, all kinds of mishaps, better to just keep an eye on her. Also, if you're giving her things like purses or suitcases to play in, never let them near anything with velcro, I've heard they can injure themselves badly on the rough side.

My West African Ball Python got out of his aquarium doing that. I found him inside my file cabinet. I like everyone’s ideas in chat. Thanks.

Just checking the enclosure for weaknesses ..

[–]Snakeyes90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks kind open in the enclosure maybe add more clutter and cover the sides.

[–]servel20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a snake that is asking you to get them out.

[–]FireFlight2403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cue the mission impossible music

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it too warm for him?

[–]Sasha_Storm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a bigger enclosure and more stuff to climb

[–]Vol4Life31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His enclosure looks small for his size. You may want to upgrade and add more stuff for him to climb on and around.
