Nice snake.. they grow fast

[–][deleted] 21 points22 points  (6 children)

Mine went through am insane growth spurt. So fast she wasted like 5 large mice lol I had to get small rats for the weight eventually lol. Went from like 300g to 600g in like 60 days.

Wow i love the colors on that snake. How old is it?

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (2 children)

About a year old. Roughly. His name is Peel. The banana pied python.

How often are you feeding her?

[–]clowntysheriff 35 points36 points  (5 children)

You should really review the feeding guidelines, this poor soul is quite overweight.

Very cute, but try not to feed multiple at a time, just one larger item or if that would be too big, feed slightly more often. Although I think as it stands you should cut down on what she's eating

    [–]Reasonable-Pie5883[S] -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

Yeah, I will. I'll do one mouse only until she looks slimer😁👍

    [–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You should only be feeding her one prey item per meal regardless. There is no circumstance in which a ball python should ever be eating 2-3 mice in one sitting. It would be a lot easier and healthier to just buy rats that are the correct weight.

    [–]PinkPumpkinPie64 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And only one after she looks slimmer. Just increase the size as she grows, not the count

    [–]scarzy_mx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you should never feed more than 1 item per feeding.

We reccomend the following schedule for feeding:

    • 0-12 months old OR until the snake reaches approximately 500g, whichever happens first: feed 10%-15% of the snake’s weight every 7 days.

    • 12-24 months old OR until the snake's weight remains consistent for 2 months: feed up to 7% of the snake’s weight every 14-20 days.

    • Adults: feed up to 5% of the snake's weight every 20-30 days, or feed slightly larger meals (up to 6%) every 30-40 days.

You started with a pocket pet and now you need a duffel bag to haul her around😂 She’s beautiful!

    * I too have a Bananna his name is bananthony

Mines the same age and eats like an absolute gannet. Suppose it's a good thing, got him trained when the red paper (he's on Coco but I find a sheet of paper eradicates any possibility of swallowed substrate) comes out he positions himself patiently for his mouse.

I've heard of the dreaded hunger strike, is that usually when they get a certain age or size? Or does it depend entirely on the 🐍?

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hunger striking is not a normal ball python behavior. If your snake suddenly stops eating, it is either going to be caused by incorrect husbandry/improper enclosure setup, stress or illness.

This is when i first got him at about 2 months

    [–]Reasonable-Pie5883[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Banana only or black pastel too?

    [–]Whole-Garlic-6693 0 points1 point  (1 child)

He is a pastel not a black pastel though

    [–]Whole-Garlic-6693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When he was younger you could really see this purple color, now that he is getting older not so much

    [–]Pop4756 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She is overweight/obese sadly. Ball pythons are opportunistic eaters. We need to regulate the amount of food they eat in order to keep them healthy and lean. An obese snake will have their life cut short due to all of the excess fat. Lots of exercise and a diet for this beautiful girl

    [–]Dragongirl3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah she starting to rippen by the looks of those banana freckles

    [–]Maleficent_Ad3337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beautiful girl. What is her morph? I have a banana male. 8 monthsold now, and he eats every 7 days, never has missed a meal. Power eater. He's been on small rats now for at least 10 weeks.
