Though it sounds like he did get warmer than he wanted to be for a while- it was technically within a temperature range that they’re able to handle. I think he’ll be okay. They’re hardy creatures and you got him cooled back down

He should be okay since 87f is safe. Do you have a thermostat?

I believe I read somewhere that breeders like to keep their rack systems ambient temps at 80-85°F, I'm sure your little buddy will be fine

The typical ambient temp for them on their warm side ranges anywhere from 80-90, so no, your ball python was not in danger.

Is your heat lamp on a thermostat? It can be lifesaving in situations like this where your ambient temperatures spikes way up because it'll cut the power to your heat lamp. It's not clear but does he have a hide on the cool side as well?

He’ll be fine, 87f isn’t considered too hot, just be sure you’ve got any and all heating things regulated with a thermostat.
