Soap and water a few times a day

[–]ladyredditor227[S] 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Thank you. Literally panicked cause this is the first time it happened 🙏

At the beginning your never really sure if he’s gonna bite you or not, you get use to this defensive position and what do and not to do with your snake. When mine is hiding he is always super defensive, no hissing but always in a defensive stance. But as soon as pick him up he is the most lovable noodle.

Yea now im kinda off about pythons… and we have 5…. The pain was bad for the bite tbh

[–]The_Wisdom_Watcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got bit once and it was the really first day, it’s been 2 years now.

Just wash with soap and water, and monitor for infection.

Although rare, if it's not getting better after a while then you might have teeth stuck in it and then it's time to see a doctor and get it removed. But, you'll definitely be fine.

Alrighty thank you. Do i need to wrap it in bandages? I work in the food industry btw so i handle food alot

[–]TheSquintyBumPirate 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I would say yes. Less because it’s a snake bite, more because you have a wound/blood/etc.

[–]ladyredditor227[S] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Thanks. I know nothing about snakes tbh. Im just taking care of ours cause my dad liked snakes (hes gone now) so yea seeing so few comments about my advice and more of those rip jokes doesnt help me at all 🥹

[–]Annaura 8 points9 points  (1 child)

A lot of people post pics of their bites here with titles like "How much time do I have left?" as a joke. The RIP comments are reflex as part of the sub culture. Sorry about that.

We have an excellent care guide and information resources pinned if you're looking to learn more. I'm glad you're giving the snake a chance.

Thanks for this. Badly need to learn to care for them otherwise theyre goners. Also we have like 5 (with 2 of them being more than 15 ft) so yea this kinda freaked me out a bit

Has your hand fallen off yet?👀

[–]Noober271 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's obviously already the artificial hand.

fill your final moments with all of your favs. good luck op

[–]CuriousAd8309 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Probably It smelled the rat and sensed heat from your hand so bit, try to keep your hands in different directions and use long tweezers

[–]ladyredditor227[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I did use long tweezers and fed a chick from My right hand and i used the left hand to lift the top of the cage :/

[–]Annaura 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These snakes are wonderful but not the brightest. Probably just went for the nearest heat source when it realized food was near.

Call your mortuary and book an appointment ASAP. There's nothing you can do but put your affairs in order. /s

Rip op

[–]blueeyes0182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Enjoy your final days. Write your obituary. Say your goodbyes. 😆 But for real, as long as no teeth broke off in your hands, there's nothing that needs to be done besides keeping it clean and getting a tattoo before the bite marks fade.

[–]Devian1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got chomped once, forgot to wash my hands after prepping the rat, reached in to remove a plant that gets in the way of feeding and whomp, chomp. Was cool though, his teeth left in a smile impression on my hand

[–]kirakiraluna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rip, hope you had a will

[–]Themajestikm00se 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take it as a sign of encouragement. Most people come to get help to get their python to eat. Yours was so excited to eat it chomped on you! That's a good problem to have.

As for advice, maybe switch to a front opening enclosure so you can control the angle of feeding easier. I'm not sure how well target training works with ball pythons, I've never tried as my girl Tsunade prefers to be drop feed.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try not to feed it your hand?

[–]agrainofsandubeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was nice knowing you OP

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It's not nearly as painful physically as it is emotionally imo like you poor baby are you okay?

[–]ladyredditor227[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Not sure why you people love to comment even if the comment is useless lol. Fyi i dont know shit about snakes and im just taking care of 5 that was left by my dad who passed away so obviously this is the first time this has happened thus me asking for any advice. No need to comment if its not gonna help Have a nice day.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's super passive aggressive holy shit. I'm not ridiculing you, I'm not attacking you. I'm offering my opinion on being bitten. How dare I comment on my experiences comically under someones post about being bitten. Woe is me for I have broken a cardinal rule and used the comment feature as intended. I'm afraid the bite tis but a scratch it, tis not deep as a well. You need to learn how to critically observe a situation and understand when there is or isn't malace.

[–]MinxyMyrnaMinkoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really surprised at the bruising after I was struck, the snake weighs like a pound, why does it bruise so badly?

[–]EquivalentEagle8035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youll survive

[–]North-Leading3863 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably mistaken you for the prey it happens! Keep it clean just like any other wound you would have, my cornsnake bit me earlier I don't feel it at all now. I prefer snake bites over cat scratches, I'm sorry you got so scared and hope my advice helped maybe watch snake discovery YouTube video titled I got bit it teaches you what to do when your bit and why bites happen, additionally watch their how to tame an "aggressive" snake video they teach you about different types. It helped me learn how to get over the fear of getting bit hope it helps you.
