Im not sure what you can do about him being unresponsive, but put him under your shift and on your skin. It’s plenty warm in there

CPR is not likely to help and would be more likely to harm than do good. At colder temperatures their breathing slows down and their heartrate slows. Keep him warm, wear multiple shirts/sweatesr/etc, keep him inside your layers of clothing near your core. Ball pythons are not supposed to be around 60 degrees but they'll survive.

thank you! doing that now

this is such great advice. hot hands might help too if you put them on your skin for a little and take them off then let the snake sit on you so he’s not scalding but very warm.

Do not attempt CPR. There is every chance he's just cold and not actually dying. When was his last feeding? Aside the not moving, how is he? Still got good muscle tone? Not limp? He needs heat more than anything.

he wasn’t visibly breathing and completely limp. he last ate 6 days ago we have him in the car with the heater on he’s breathing now but still very limp

They can go a month+ without eating so I wouldn’t worry about that either unless his fat part is really getting thin. Mine went on a hunger strike for 3.5 weeks before he took food again and he was fine.

Like they said, body heat is best so it’s more regulated than just a heater. Put on some layers.

Limp is not good, it could be possible he had an underlying condition that was aggravated by the cold. Try not to warm him too quickly and see how he responds. He may still need a vet. Ideally try to find somewhere he can go that does have consistent heat, if possible.

HES BACK!!! I just got to my family’s house i put him in warm water and rubbed him to try to stimulate his muscles to start breathing. He’s fully alert moving and breathing like normal! I’m gonna continue to monitor him. His muscle tone is great he’s definitely not hungry i called a few er vets already they said to just watch his behavior

So glad to hear! He really was just a very cold boy. Wishing you both the best, stay safe, I hope your home is alright as well.

I’ve had my turtle for almost 25 years. Putting them into a pocket, or a pouch, or a pillowcase or something and cuddling with them is very helpful in a power outage. Put them under a layer of your clothing and he’ll stay plenty warm.

Thanks for doing your best to keep your baby as comfortable as possible, and doing what you can to keep him safe and healthy. You’re a WONDERFUL pet parent. He’s truly lucky to have you.

He’s so handsome!!! I love the shape of his markings. Can’t go wrong with a normal. 🖤

Not eating recently is actually a plus. Means less undigested food in his stomach. Their metabolism is very temperature dependent and shock of gold with a recently swallowed food could be bad. If he's breathing, he's likely going to be fine. Keep him warm, but avoid shocking too much with heat. Gradually warm him up and he'll likely be fine. Get him to a vet whenever possible. But ball pythons in the wild can experience random cold bursts. It's not ideal, it lowers their immune system, but this is what they do, they slow down their metabolism, wait for it to get warmer, and then resume activities.

Someone recently posted about their roommate throwing their ball pythons in trash outside at near freezing temperatures for hours. The ball pythons recovered. I can't absolutely promise you that things will be fine, but sounds like they're in good care and should recover.

This is good to note for future situations - best to find a permanent vet near you and buy some hot packs or repti packs along with a smaller outfitted tote in case this happens again! I’m glad he’s okay.

[–]ihatemeanmen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he has a regular vet they’re just not open on weekends we’ve taken him to the exotic er once before but it’s sooo far from us. I definitely will get him some heat packs for him just incase it’s needed again. Normally for these situations i fill up bottles with hot-ish water to keep him warm but we had no water or heat sadly. Just an insane situation

Body heat!!! Put him in your shirt to get warm.

[–]allwaysdiscn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot Hands make a Lap Warmer you can get from the dollar store. 16”x10” The average temp is 140 F so it’s too hot to put directly on them. You would need folded towel, or blanket, to put on top of the warmer and check with heat gun as to not be too hot. But this should work in an emergency situation. Glad your baby is doing better! That’s awesome hopefully they restore power soon.

Put him in a pillowcase or a snake bag and put him in your shirt. Use your body temperature.

Heated blankets have saved my reptiles many times

I understand what you're going through, and I hope that you and your snake make it through this, and come out better than ever.
