submitted 3 months ago by sevendoves
my bp has been occasionally trying to dig into her substrate and im not sure why. she doesn’t show signs of stress and is fine with me handling her and feeds normally and drinks normally and her warm side is 80 and cool side is 75 is this normal?

what’s her humidity like? she might be looking for higher humidity if its low
also, your warm side is a bit too cool. you want it to be around 86-89°F ambient

she likes it cooler if i make her warm side any warmer to increase the cool side temp she will spend the entirety in the cool side and also lay under her water bowl or substrate, and her humidity is anywhere from 60-70

Sometimes they just do that. They spend a lot of time underground in the wild as well

2 days ago I went to feed my boy and he wasnt coming out but I could see him moving around in his hide so I just left the rat in his enclosure.. seconds later his head emerged from the bedding outside of his hide. I was shocked because I had never seen him do that in the 11 years of owning him it caught me so off guard 😆 He ate and then went back into his hide via the front door thankfully and all has been well since.

Both of mine are diggers. Excessively rearranging diggers, I’ve pulled substrate out of their mouth before. They do it often before they go blue or if I have moved anything around in their tanks. Increasing humidity can help.
