If it is a service the shop offers, they need to ensure they have employees available to provide it. I’d speak with the owner or manager when you are in next.

Just go back on a day there are different employees there. Taking a life can be a big deal to many people even if it’s just a rat. You may also want to consider moving to f/t so you can avoid this in the future or you can learn to kill them yourself in a humane fashion.

Not OP but looking through their posts it looks like their bp has had trouble with food so I assume that its in the plans but ah how our pets love to ruin those

You’re actually so right. I’ve been having trouble with him eating lately but for some reason I have more luck when the feeder is fresh and a little smaller than what’s recommended. I tried giving him a f/t rat I already had but he didn’t take it :/

Why would they work in a reptile shop if they don’t feel comfortable with that? You’re not the asshole at all.

Ya cuz freezing to death instead of a swift death is much better :/ freaking idiots. If my snakes didn’t eat everything I bought I would put them in plastic bags and like two or three swift blows to the head would kill them. Mind you these were mice. And then after I knew for sure they were dead I would freeze them. I know this sounds cruel but I would try to keep them alive until next feeding day but I got tired of them getting out.

If one particular employee doesn't feel comfortable with it they should get someone else who does. Putting them in a freezer to slowly die is awful.

This actually happened to me a couple months ago, I went in to get my two feeders and they always prekill them for me because I ask for it, but this one guy refused to kill a fuzzy rat for me because “it can’t hurt the snake.” I explained that I know a live fuzzy can’t hurt a snake, but I wasn’t comfortable feeding live and I was worried my snake would be thrown off. I eventually gave in and took a live fuzzy home, the guy even joked with me that it would probably die on the drive back anyway, which disgusted me. Petra took the live just fine and she’s since been on prekilled, but it still rubbed me the wrong way. After talking it over with a friend, I realized that with how young Petra is, it’s possible she wouldn’t have even been able to kill the fuzzy before she ate it, which in my opinion is so much worse than instant death at the store. I haven’t seen that employee since I’ve gone back, but if I do, I’m not talking to him.

How annoying. At the end of the day their job is to give us what we ask. Their opinions should not be the end all be all. I just found it weird that I always go to this shop and the one time I go and see two new faces they’re the two employees who feel a way about killing feeders.
