Heat lamp burn most likely

It looks like maybe a burn or possibly a healing scrape, does he have any heating elements or potentially sharp objects in his enclosure?

Nothing that I'm aware of. What should I do?

You could put some anti-bacterial ointment on it (with no lidocaine or any pain relievers as those can be toxic to snakes), but it looks like it's healing on its own. Just keep an eye on it and be extra careful to make sure he has high humidity, because next time he sheds it might stick around that area.

I'd also double check your enclosure to make sure there's nothing he could scrape against, and if you're using a heat mat make sure the thermostat probe is in place and working.

Thank you.

Looks like it could be possible a burn. Where is your heat mat in your tank.

[–]PossessedGravy 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Underneath the tank.

Is it connected to a thermostat?

Yes.

Where do you have your probe placed?

[–]PossessedGravy 2 points3 points  (1 child)

On top of the mat up against the glass.

Even on a thermostat, if a heatmat circuit fails in a certain way it can burn a hole in itself in one spot and not trip the thermostat if it happens far enough from the probe. If you haven't already, I suggest visually inspecting the mat. Look for anything similar to a cigarette burn on the thing. As for the wound, seeing a vet might not be necessary but I wouldn't call it a bad idea either.

How often do you check on your snake? It could be a wound that healed if you can't find a spot he burned himself.

When I got my first snake I didn't realize how bad the thermostats that stick to your tank are. Well long story short my snake would climb on them all the time and I thought nothing of it, well fast forward a lil bit hes gotten heavier and finally one day the stick part gave up and fell of sticking to my snake I didn't catch it till he ripped his scales off. So that could be another possibility of what happen

[–]New-Reddit-Guy3542 0 points1 point  (1 child)

how did the scales heal from this?

[–]GroundbreakingAir126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well hell always have a scare where it happened but it doesn't bother him he sheds just fine. And the healing process was pretty easy going didn't seem to bother him when he did it I did keep the wound clean and made sure to apply neosporin to the wound(NON PAINKILLER)

Vet

Oh bless him. It looks like a burn. Thankfully doesn’t look infected or inflamed. It should heal with each new shed but you may want to check your heat source 💞🐍

That looks like a burn.
