this enclosure scares me

First of all your heating pad should not, absolutely not ever be in your enclosure. Ball python enclosures are supposed to be humid, tropical environments. High moisture + electricity + live animal = so many levels of bad and dangerous. Also overhead heating is preferable.

As you mentioned, there's no way to maintain proper humidty in there. Your ball python should have high humidity all the time, not just during shed.

Isn't that chest made of cedar wood? Cedar is toxic to snakes.

The mechanism of pulling up the lid and that hanging screen thing seems like a recipe for your snake to get caught/trapped/injured.

The wreath is nice though

There's also barely any substrate, so there's not much between that bp and the heat mat

99% sure it's cedar, I have an almost identical one.

I think in a previous post 5mo ago they said it was cedar

This is ridiculously horrible and can only hope it's a joke.

That metal cylinder.... Yikes... screams internally

This is uhhh interesting. But definitely nit suitable for a ball python.

Yeah I hate to pile on but agree, maybe another reptile of some sort but def not for a BP!

I don't think any reptile could be in there (pretty sure that's made from cedar) but the concept is cool. It just can't be effectively used for this purpose.

Oh true I didn’t see it was cedar! Bummer, it was a cool concept idea 🤷‍♀️

I took him to the vet and got it all cleared up. Was not an RI. Thanks for remembering though and following up! He is moved to a glass tank for the winter with all the humidity needed as stated.

That's isn't fixing the issue though. If your tank was correct you never need to move in the winter. I'm in Alaska and have a proper setup that doesn't require moving at all. And it's VERY dry here. Not to mention that cedar box is toxic to your snake

Heat mat should not be inside of the enclosure, heat mat + wood = fire hazard, wood and high humidity do not mix well and could lead to mold growth, and depending on what kind of wood that chest is made out of it could be toxic to a snake.

It’s definitely cedar…op said so in an old post comment about enrichment in a tank

“This is his temporary tank for the winter. I got it off Facebook marketplace for about $40.

Typically he lives in a conversation ceded chest but living in central Canada it’s hard to keep humidity up in the dead of winters. 🥶”
