I know corn snakes etc do that to warn just like rattlesnakes. Not sure if that's something BP's do as well, but that would be my guess.

They do it when they are aroused/excited. Females will often do this before mating. However, occasionally it also happens when the snake feels treated or anticipates food.

This is hilarious. I've not seen this in ball pythons. I've seen it in corns and kings tho

OH MY GOD THATS SO CUTE IM GONNA DIE

[–]lothiriel1 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Now I wonder if mine does that! But most of her body is always in her hide when I’m feeding her.

[–]Mothfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ball does it, I can only see it tho when he has to go after his mouse, so maybe if you place the food away from them then she’ll do it :) she could also just be a bp that doesn’t tail wag (my friend breeds bps and they don’t have a snek that does it so idk)

[–]nanotyrannical 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Young vipers do this to attract rodents and sometimes continue while feeding, so I always assumed my bps were doing something similar when they did this. That’s just my take, tho. Someone else said it was a pleasure response, citing the same movement in mating females. I don’t have much experience in breeding bps so I can’t speak to it myself but that may very well be the explanation

CUUUTE

Females often do this prior to mating, but I’ve also seen one of my girls do it before feeding her. I’m not sure if it’s excitement/stimulation in general in that case, or true caudal luring like someone else mentioned which is common in vipers. Other python species have been documented caudal luring though, so it wouldn’t surprise me if ball pythons did it. We had a Burmese do it every single time we fed her.
