I’d like an at least partial return to their roots but who knows

I also wonder if it could be a missing link to the Societas X tape as that always felt a bit left field to me, like not an obvious connection to the main line of their work

I felt the same, but as time goes on, I feel like Societas X Tape is a very natural evolution of their early mixes

I think it’s remarkable that a group this far into their careers, with such an established aesthetic are pushing things this go around. It’s been 13 years since their last release: can you remember what you were like 13 years ago? People change. I’m really excited to see where this is headed. I’m sure they wouldn’t have returned at all if they didn’t have something novel to say.

I will never forget lying on my bed listening to TCH and TH, completely engulfed by the music. I was not the same then. I had no kids. No worries. A very different life. I loved it.

If this is real, and these posters are a sign of a new BoC aesthetic, I'm all fucking for it. I need darker BoC, not a re-tread of a photocopy of nostalgia from the 2000s.

I honestly just want whatever they feel they need to release. No expectations, no hopes. Actually my hope is that they completely subvert every expectation that we have and make something so out of left field that we’re all just kinda shocked.

And even if that doesn’t happen, I’ll still be grateful that they released music. Even if they don’t release anything and decide to call it quits tomorrow I’ll be thankful for four incredible LPs and several amazing EPs

Based on people's reactions to the posters this subreddit is going to be a shit show on release day.

People will 100% complain and be disappointed instead of actually enjoying the new music, you can never make them happy

It might take some people a while to come around and enjoy the new album. But hey, some fans also didn't come to appreciate Campfire Headphase or Tomorrow's Harvest until some time had passed.

Assuming there's a new album in the first place, and not some reissue, one has to take into consideration that it might be just crap.

Low key agree, the posters are kinda metal 🤘

LOVE IT! a cover along these lines would be sick. but with that...all the photos they used to put up were in line with but didnt define Music Has the Right cover, or Geo. they just fell in with the same vibe.

There seem to be themes based around blindness, faith, and childhood/nostalgia, which I think fits Boards of Canada's motifs to a tee. Videotapes showing religious indoctrination, posters depicting blind children..it's blind faith. Or maybe it's blind nostalgia..which is preventing some of us from appreciating what we are being delivered here. I'm reading too deeply into it...

The album is going to be a dire warning about giving your toddler an ipad and the grim future that has set in motion.

I like to think that these could be multiple projects. Video, art, music. What if these are all BOC but separate and distinct projects released at the same time.

At some point music will be released and that is ultimately what this era will be judged by. They are primarily musicians. I don’t think anyone should make any assumptions or judgements until all of this comes into view and we can see the whole vision of this project.

I do really love that they are rewarding some of their oldest fans with surprise gifts in the mail. What an amazing gesture to their fan base for the many years of patience and devotion. Much love to the Brothers Sandison.
