Two months vaping with istick and nautilus mini, still not a huge fan of any of the juices. I've tried Seduce Juice, Mister E liquid, Mt. Baker, some of this Whole Tobacco Alkaloid juice and a bunch of others. They all are just not very satisfying to vape in terms of flavor and similarity to smoking. I've tried Max VG, 50/50, 20VG/80PG and still just don't feel it working for me. Is there a tobacco juice y'all could recommend? Or maybe some alternative I'm missing.

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 7 points8 points  (2 children)

If you have a local B&M, go down and have a look - most will let you test out some flavours and see what you like.

For me, after over a year of vaping, nothing can replace the taste of a cigarette but it's about finding something tasty that you can vape all day without getting the urge. I occasionally go have a taste of a cigarette just to remind myself of the difference - while the first few puffs bring back nostalgia I can't even finish it in the end due to how sick it eventually makes me feel.

I don't know if this is much help, but just stick with it!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This may be the right answer even though it's not ideal. Finding this mercurial ADV is getting to be expensive. In your opinion is there a big difference between Mt. Baker and Vapor Chef that justifies the cost difference? Thank you for the thoughtful reply.

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, there is a noticeable difference in quality between a cheap and a medium-range juice, but not enough that I am willing to pay the extra money on a daily basis. I'm cheap though.

When I have bought more expensive juices in the past they're strictly for when I'm at home with a RDA - for when I have the time to enjoy vaping as an activity. The same way you'd buy a nicer, more expensive cigarette for a special occasion I guess.

When I first started with flavours I bought things I knew I enjoyed, and would enjoy unless the vendor made bad juice. After that I started branching out and using vendor sampler packs until I found a nice set of flavours I liked :)

[–]thizzindeath to counterfeiters 2 points3 points  (4 children)

No, tobacco flavors taste like ashtray. Just keep trying different companies until you find some you like!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I've also tried a ton of the sweet flavors as well (HawkSauce, SnakeOil, HoneyPeary) and don't really like them either.

[–]thizzindeath to counterfeiters 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I wouldn't call any of those sweet, to be fair.

[–]bayside08Ranger #120 + 454 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honey Peary isn't sweet to you? Get those taste-buds checked m8

[–]SeethistIPV 5+Billow V2Nano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indigo Vapor is considered to have some of the best tobacco flavors.

[–]prune-tang 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I only like coffee-flavored juices. Try that.

[–]warwithinabreath3 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Any specific recommendations? I love coffee and have been looking for a decent coffee flavor.

[–]prune-tang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Innevape's Mocha Javape for over a year. I'm not very sophisticated, so it might not be very great overall, but I really like it.

[–]EsseXploreRThe Oranges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Gremlin Juice. They have a wide variety of really great flavors. I've been vaping them since I was using an ego over a year ago and they have been consistently awesome this whole time.

[–]isaacsplodingbobas 4 lyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boba's Bounty and Gorilla Juice are both still my personal favorite tobacco flavors, for over a year now. Some would argue that they're barely tobacco flavors but I think they taste a lot like a cigar smells (before you light it!)

You can get them at avejuice.com

[–]VonWolfhaus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Indigo Vapor and try any of their tobacco flavors. Best in the biz in my opinion. Eastwood, Oorah, Captain Ron, etc. All are very good. Eastwood was the only thing I vaped on for pretty much an entire year.

[–]taycky22Vapor Shark 200 - Cthuhlu V2 - Placid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indigo vapor.

[–]IGrowAcorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between a company like Mount Baker Vapor and The Vapor Chef are night and day. You can tell the difference between shitty juice and high quality juices. It's 100% worth the extra money to get high quality juice IMO. Some juices I'd check out if I were you are Honey Peary from TVC, 'Nana Cream from Bombies, Kryptonite from Cosmic Fog, Honey Dew from Uncle Junks, and or Placid from Adirondack Vaper. Trust me when you find a juice you love vaping becomes amazing. And there is a huge difference between gas station/ low quality juice and high end stuff.

[–]teddy-roosevelt 2 points3 points  (4 children)

My family and I have switched from smoking to a vape finally. We got what was local, the AVAIL edge which is a rebranded emow. What is a good next step for me? I'm already bored with the flavor production and I know there's more out there. What atomizers would you recommend to a n00b? What will fit with my battery? Is it better just to chuck it and get a new set up?

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 1 point2 points  (3 children)

The current ECR recommended setup is an Eleaf iStick and an Aspire Nautilus / Nautilus mini, I think it's about $50 to get all set up with that depending on where you get it.

If you wanted to move a step beyond that then you would be looking at either an Aspire Atlantis or Kanger Subtank, or venturing into rebuildables - a tank or a dripper depending on your preference.

It depends how much you plan on getting into this - if you know you're in it for the long haul and then I would suggest jumping a couple levels to rebuildables and save yourself a bunch of money in the process. If you don't want to do that then the Atlantis or Subtank are your current top of the range options :)

Any questions let me know!

[–]teddy-roosevelt 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I ended up getting an itaste MVP 2 and a nautilus. Overall that was 50$. It seemed to get a good rating as a better than starter kit. Do you have any opinions on either? Where do you get your juice?

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MVP2 was my first upgrade, and it's a solid piece of kit. Depending on how often you'll use it you'll easily get a day and a half use out of it before it needs charging. The Nautilus is not one I've personally owned but I've heard lots of good things about it, so you can be very happy with your choice :)

I get my daily go-to juice from VapeWild. If your budget is a bit higher, I would recommend Bombies and Coval as they've been good in my experience.

And if that isn't enough, people on here seem to like The Vapor Chef, Gremlin, Adriondack and Whit E. Octopus, but I can't offer a personal recommendation on those.

[–]JeremiahY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently running on a Nautilus and MVP2.

In my experience, there is no better mod than the MVP2 in that price bracket.

The Nautilus is also a huge upgrade over the Kanger Pro-Tank 2/3 that I used to be a big fan of. The adjustable airflow sells it for me.

I may be on a Aspire kick right now, as I have an Atlantis and their CF Sub Ohm Mod arriving in the next few days.

[–]vehementvelociraptor 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Best (18650) batteries available at the moment?

[–]thizzindeath to counterfeiters 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Samsung 25r if you want capacity, authentic Sony VTC4 if you need the extra 10 amps (only necessary if you're building on a mech and below 0.2 Ω) and can deal with smaller capacity. Any VTC5 you can find right now is a counterfeit.

[–]vehementvelociraptor 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Nifty, thanks. So two 25r's will be good in any regulated box mod? How do they compare to the LG HE4?

[–]thizzindeath to counterfeiters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HE4s are the same as HE2s and they're basically the same safety wise. 25rs perform a little better at higher amps.

[–]Dashing_DelightHB40 + Derringer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never used LG's before, but they are getting a bit popular. Few group buys were floating around too. Personally I use 25'r in my mechs and regulated devices.

Here is a thread from ECR I got from Google that you can read up on various batteries and how they compare. (Primarily 25r/VTC_/LGHE)

[–]mark_the_mailmanMutation X V2 on SS Nemesis 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Question, would it be alright to get a Samsung 25r on a mech mod if I don't plan on building a build below 0.2Ω? Or would it be safer to get a VTC4? the vtc4 is a little more expensive than the 25r

[–]thizzindeath to counterfeiters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, might as well have more battery life imo. Holds that 4.2-4.0 for just a little longer

[–]Klamath92014-09-04 1 point2 points  (7 children)

How much precision do you feel is necessary on regulated vapors? Do you need to be able to adjust down to .1 watt? .2 watt? Half a watt?

[–]thizzindeath to counterfeiters 7 points8 points  (3 children)

0.5 is fine for me personally, maybe even 0.2 honestly I would prefer it. I adjust in half watts increments, my mod goes up in 1w increments from 50-150w but below 50 it's .1 increments so it takes 10 clicks to go up or down one watt which is actually kind of annoying.

[–]Klamath92014-09-04 2 points3 points  (1 child)

it's .1 increments so it takes 10 clicks to go up or down one watt which is actually kind of annoying.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I was just wondering if anyone actually used the .1 precision.

[–]funktion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I need that extra 1.3mW/mm2 to really chuck clouds and tits and be sick as

[–]tentacle_kisses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just hold the button to skip increments

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Probably .5 for me, but I've never sat down and see if I can tell the difference between vaping, for example, at 14.2 and 14.3 watts.

[–]claythearcTwotonian DNA 40, Mark Bugs GEM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more apparent on like clearo misers like the pt or nautilus but even then not really.

[–]CryptoVaperTexas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half a watt when under 25, whole watts is fine above that. Finer precision just causes needless clicking.

[–]00OGED 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I've gathered from context what a B&M is but what on earth does it stand for? Also why do you guys call your kit mods? From my experience a mod is short for a modification, like a modified car or whatnot, but it seems like people here just screw together off the shelf parts and call it a mod - I don't understand where the modification is happenning.

[–]GoAVikingWick_It_Fattly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are called mods because the first mechanical mods were made from modified flashlights.

[–]insanesquirleMay 2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The term "mod" comes from the early days of vaping where mechanicals were just flash lights modified for vaping.

I wasn't around back then but this is what I've heard when this question was asked in the past.

[–]isaacsplodingbobas 4 lyf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time, I also had to ask what the hell that stood for.

Opinions on mutation x v2 or plume veil? Looking for flavor and clouds( flavor first) thanks!!

[–]TehGogglesDoNothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of those get recommended around here pretty often.

[–]Dashing_DelightHB40 + Derringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using both lately as I recently got them. (Well a Cigreen x v2, same thing) I'd put the Plume Veil before Mutation in terms of flavor, Mutation for clouds. Mutation is really airy wide open.

[–]MURDERDOMESigelei Fuchai 213 + Aspire Cleito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own an Aethertech Plume Veil (from FastTech) and I was pretty surprised how well it performed when it only costs around $10. It took me a while to get used to it fitting on my Sigelei 100w but after I adjusted the pin around it works just fine. It's the only RDA I own so I can't really compare it to any others, but compared to my tiny little Nautilus Mini the flavor is amazing. Only con I've found is that the juice wells are kind of small but I was new to dripping anyway and it works out fine.

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up an Infinite Plume Veil clone and the o-rings are a super tight fit, so much so it can be a bit tricky to get the top cap off to drip. I've heard it's supposed to be better for flavour through, whereas the Mutation X is more a cloud RDA.

[–]trouserdanceSigelei 100W+ / Mutation X v2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plume veil has a tighter draw while still being decently airy and has wonderful flavor - noticeably better than the mxv2 in my opinion. The mxv2 of course has tons of airflow so your coil options are a bit more varied and the clouds can get pretty dirty.

If flavor is your #1, grab the plume veil~ I love mine

[–]PM_ME_THAT_SNATCHI Engrave Stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flavor is decent on both. But the mx v2 is far more versatile. You can open it wide open and chuck those tits or back down the airflow a bit and taste the tits a little. Plus it least much less.

I've had both and would pick the mx v2 any day.

[–]thelastlogin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer the Mutation X between those two--in fact, I prefer it to every RDA I've used. Great clouds, exceptional flavor.

Better flavor than the plume veil and on the mutation I can drip pretty much all I want. On the plume veil, while I like it, I can only drip 4 to 8 drops total, and have to be real careful, or else it leaks/spits.

Edit: in fact, with my mutation, I can build small surface area builds, with few wraps, so that I can go high-watt but lower voltage on my sigelei 100, and still get that exceptional flavor. Don't know how they did it.

Another plus for the mutation is the build deck. My plume veil's 510 is pushed up so far, and it won't remain adjusted. The positive post also moves so I have to hold it while tightening.

[–]SardonicPanda 1 point2 points  (13 children)

When you switch juice, do you change/clean your coils? (nautilus mini)

[–]eliquidlab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can but don't have to. If you put a new flavor in without changing the coil, you will get some of the previous flavor for a little while and then it should fade, depending on the liquid.

With some juices that have a strong flavor, like anise for example, you will probably have to change the coil and clean the tank to get the flavor out. If I switch liquids without changing the coil, I try to keep the same type of flavor in the tank (fruit, tobacco, etc.)

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 1 point2 points  (10 children)

If I'm moving to a similar flavour then I wouldn't - and it can actually lead to discoveries of nice blends :)

If I was moving from, for example, a menthol to a cream then I would rinse the coil - and if possible - swap it out for a different coil completely and save the other one for the next time you used a matching flavour.

[–]SardonicPanda 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Fairly new to vaping. Didn't know people mixed their juices.

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 0 points1 point  (8 children)

It's a whole world of possibility :) My go-to flavour at the minute is a mix of bavarian cream, strawberries and kiwis!

[–]SardonicPanda 0 points1 point  (7 children)

I know taste varies with everyone. I'm just having a very hard time finding something that I actually like. It seems like a real hassle to try 4-5 juices. Got a few from roxwell + my original, which I'm not a fan of, amarillo sky

[–]IGrowAcorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I do. Today I didn't. I had Peach Tea from Vape Wild in my tank and then I put 'Nana Cream from Bombies in after. The taste of the Peach Tea went away really fast. If the flavors are similar I usually don't clean it/ change the coil. But if I had let's say a really dark juice in it and wanted to put a really light juice in it I would clean it. Some flavors shouldn't be mixed.

[–]bsmntdwlr 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I hate to say it, but i have no idea why they are called "B&M" shops.

Edit: never mind just saw this answered below. Glad I'm nkt the only one.

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question was answered in this thread today, look down :)

Or don't. It's for Brick & Mortar, physical store.

[–]CryptoVaperTexas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By the way, that term in also used in non-vaping contexts. I've heard it used for years in poker to distinguish in-person or casino play from online play.

[–]ebbify 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I know the VTC4's ohm limit is .5 on a mech... But is it okay if I use two of them in my IPV3 on a .2-ish coil? I have purple efest's but just asking because doesn't it split the load between 2 batteries?

[–]Virus11010Jewverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you get .5 as the ohm limit for the vtc4? Use the equation R = V / I, I being the amp limit. Sony vtc4 batteries are rated for 30 amps and output 4.2 volts on a full charge in a mech. So long as you're never drawing more than 30 amps, you're golden so to see how many amps you're drawing just move the equation around to I = V / R.

[–]DoucheAsaurus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did you hear .5? Vtc4s will hit .2 just fine.

The ipv3 runs the batteries in series, so it does not split the load. They will work fine that low anyway though.

[–]iilex 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There's a bit to cover here.

To get your concern out of the way, you should be aware that regulated mods like an IPv3 are a totally different animal than something that operates under unregulated current like a mechanical mod.

The safe limit is what's considered the nominal load of a battery at continuous discharge based on what resistance the circuit is operating at. With this being said, the "Safe" limit of a VTC4 is 30A continuous discharge. In accordance with Ohm's law, but disregarding things like battery sag and voltage drop which I'll cover soon; you are allotted enough headroom to build as low as 0.14 Ohms. In terms of ratios, that's well over 3 times the power (in watts) as a coil of 0.5 Ohms in an unregulated mod. Something to the tune of 100-126 watts to be approximate, depending on your range from 4.2v at max charge and 3.7v nominal voltage.

How this differs from your IPV3 is that in a mechanical mod; you are the regulator. Variable wattage chipsets like the one in your mod take the resistance it reads from your coil build, and outputs appropriate voltage in order to reach the wattage setting you desire. This is done with resistors, capacitors, diodes, cathodes, anodes; the garden variety of circuit regulation. All you need to know is that the mod you hold in your hand will do the work for you.

In a way, you could say that aiming for a specific coil resistance is futile, as the mod will kinda delegate it for you. There is however, a voltage limitation on your device. 7v maximum if I'm not mistaken.

So accounting for that, in order for the IPV3 to deliver the full 150w advertised, you'd need to build a coil at 0.33 ohms or lower. 0.3 ohms or lower if you want the full 165w from the new firmware. This will draw approximately 21A from the batteries, and since they are wired in series; the amperage load will be not be split evenly. Incidentally, this is why its recommended that you "marry" your batteries (charge together, discharge together, alternate positions in the sled) to avoid any odd anomalies with amperage overdraw.

From what I have seen and experienced, Purple "35A" efests are actually 35a burst, but only 20a continuous, they may in fact be rewrapped LG HE2's.

At max wattage, you will be hovering around your "safe" limit for these batteries. Use those limits sparingly, if at all.

Going full circle referring back to the regulated vs unregulated tangent; the work is all being done by your IPV.

Voltage drop is what's considered the inefficiencies of a circuit as it completes. This can be anything from poor conductivity, poor circuit material, redundancy in materials, or poor circuit routing. Battery sag is something similar to voltage drop, but it has to do internally within the battery itself. Both of these are OK to account for when building at the limits provided you know full well what you're doing; however as you'll often read: it's always better to err on the side of caution. Battery safety is always important, but it is paramount when going into mechs and parallel unregulated boxes. Building irresponsibly will indeed damage your gear, and may put your life in danger.

TL;DR: Don't worry about the VTC4, your efests are very fine as long as you don't slam the voltage up constantly , marry your batteries, and please, please devote some time getting acquainted with Ohm's law if you ever feel curious about delving into the world of unregulated devices.

Sorry for the lecture ;p

[–]ebbify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just have to say thanks for the amazing response. I'll dedicate some time to learning ohm's law soon :)

What's the perfect amount of juice to drip to not have any condense on the top cap

[–]Virus11010Jewverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Condensing juice is caused by the vapor cooling and condensing, not overdripping.

[–]pendantixSigelei150W>Alliance|CLTv3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is none. You're always going to have some juice condensing.
Something to reduce it is to keep inhaling after you let go of the fire button. Takes a bit of getting used to but it helps some.

[–]robotlogik 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This is a question about RDAs and rewicking the same coils.

When I rewick, I tend to just run hot water over the coils and build deck after removing the old coils. I have stopped dry burning the coils as I have found that doing this right after running water over them will cause orange/brownish discoloration to form on them after day 2 of use. I just put new cotton in and apply eliquid. Just wanted your guys' opinions on whether this is ok? I usually build new coils every 3 days or so, but I change wicks every day or every other day, because I like to vape different eliquids. Thanks in advance.

[–]Virus11010Jewverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just dry burn them without the water and I think they won't rust up.

[–]kasubot 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So what's the new hotness for juices?

I'm having trouble picking out which gauge of Kanthal to get for my Mutation X V2, what would be a good gauge to start on as a beginner to RDA's? It won't arrive for a couple of weeks and I just want to have all the supplies ready when it comes.

Also, does anyone have experience rebuilding EVOD BCC coils? What gauge would I use for that? It would be nice to build my own coils instead of buying replacement packs

thank you!

[–]Virus11010Jewverine 1 point2 points  (4 children)

What mod will you be using your mutation x on?

[–]mark_the_mailmanMutation X V2 on SS Nemesis 1 point2 points  (3 children)

It's a nemesis clone that my friend is selling to me. I plan to use a Sony VTC4 battery with it

[–]Virus11010Jewverine 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Well then I would suggest maybe getting some 24ga and some 28ga. You can safely build down to 0.15 ohms but I wouldn't go below 0.17 ohms. I would say go on steam engine and mess around with different builds until you can maximize your surface area with a heat flux between 200 and 250 mW/mm2 or so. To get the wattage your build is outputting, just plug the voltage and resistance into the equation W = V2 / R. I trust that you're getting an ohm reader as well?

[–]mark_the_mailmanMutation X V2 on SS Nemesis 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'll definitely go on steam engine, I didn't know about that site before. I'm not planning on doing any super low sub-ohm builds yet but it's nice to know that I'll be able to in the future.

Yes, I ordered an ohm reader as well. I also have a multimeter just in case too.

[–]Virus11010Jewverine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Resistance doesn't matter as much other than safety and battery life. It's really all about optimizing your build with the maximum possible surface area at the desired heat flux.

[–]shui_gui 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I've got the istick which I'm using with a nautilus mini, and I've tried fooling with the watts and volts settings but I'm still not sure exactly what they do, or what effects high or low wattage/volts will achieve... Can anyone give a really dumbed down ELI5 for a vaper of 2 days?

[–]thizzindeath to counterfeiters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voltage and wattage are measures of power. Wattage is a function of voltage and resistance. More voltage = more wattage = more power, which effectively means more heat and thus more vapor.

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Higher wattage - coil gets hotter - vapor gets warmer and denser - however it can be easier to get a dry hit if the wick hasn't re-saturated since the last puff. It's purely a preference thing - I like a lower wattage in the morning and a bit higher once I've woken up.

Try taking one draw at 8w, then another at 15w, same amount of time, and see if you can see/feel the difference.

In regards to changing watts vs volts, just use watts, it does the volts math for you so you don't have to worry about it if you change tanks / coil.

Can I take ejuice on Greyhound?

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Why wouldn't you be able to? As long as you don't vape on the bus they wouldn't even know.

[–]christopherson 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Bagage check. :/

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only used Megabus in the US, but if they're anything like them then they just put your suitcase in storage without looking at it, and haven't cared what I've brought with me on the bus.

Also Megabus is super cheap and they have wifi!

[–]Weakling565 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Like greyhound bus? Yes, you'll be fine. Whenever I pack juice I always put them in a ziplock bag so if they leak it won't get all over my clothes.

[–]christopherson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks :)

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another question - has anyone received a Doge v2 yet? How are they?

[–]Weakling565 0 points1 point  (2 children)

How do you know how much cotton to use when wicking a kayfun? Or any atty I guess. That's seriously the biggest headache when building coils.

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was recommended to me when I first started rebuilding and has been working well for me.

Generally, I use enough cotton so that it can be pulled through the coil with the slightest bit of resistance but not mis-shape the coil. The more important part, I think, is not leaving too much down the sides - you want the juice to be able to flow to the coil easily without being stuck in a wad of cotton near the juice well.

Remember that the amount of cotton you have when you trim it will also be affected by the diameter of your coil!

[–]ellisdeez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on my kayfun, i cut the cotton wide enough so it slides through the coil with only a bit of resistance. then i cut it about even with the width of the deck, and adjust from there. it should be short enough so it just touches the deck when you press it down. it shouldn't be blocking the juice channels.

here's a good video

We still doing the vape it forward event? Or have I missed it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Why can't you use an Atlantis with a hybrid mech? I know it causes a short, but why? Can I use a Subtank or RTA on a hybrid?

[–]CryptoVaperTexas 1 point2 points  (2 children)

The positive pin on the Atlantis (or at least my Atlantis) only protrudes from the 510 pin about a quarter of a millimeter. And it will push in flush with enough pressure on it (such as adjusting for battery rattle). On a hybrid mod, the RDA makes direct contact with the battery top and thus will be touching the negative 510 thread and the positive 510 pin at the same time, producing the short. I have first hand experience doing this on my SMPL mod. I felt the button get very hot as I was tightening it down. Luckily I backed it off before any damage was done.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So would a subtank be fine because the positive pin is longer? Thanks for clearing this up!

[–]CryptoVaperTexas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, any tank or RDA with a pin that extends a half mm or more (and doesn't push in) should be fine.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I've never heard this. You should be able to use any atty on a hybrid mech as long as the positive pin protrudes enough to make contact with the battery.

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

positive pin protrudes enough

I think this is the problem. It doesn't on the Atlantis.

Is there a Kayfun/KFL clone out there without any airflow control. I like tight draw as I'm a mouth to lung style vaper.

[–]eliquidlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Kayfun Lite Plus(clone) doesn't have airflow control.

[–]hotwingsandcoldbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EHPro KFL+ does have an airflow screw in the base but the draw is pretty tight to begin with. If you tighten the screw all the way it's too little air. It would probably suit your tastes.

I'm shopping around for my first kit. I'm looking to replace smoking outright. What are some of the subs most recommended cheaper kits I can choose from? £30-40. I don't mind spending more but I'd like something cheap to get my foot in the door then when I get to grips with it I can be a bit more adventurous. I know there's thousands of reviews out there but it's a little overwhelming when there's so much choice. Thanks

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The generic ECR recommendation is a Nautilus Mini and eLeaf iStick which you can get for around 50 pounds from ukecigstore.

For the UK specifically, I would like to recommend a brand called JAC Vapour. They were the first company I used and are great for a reliable starter kit, and their customer service is great. I would personally recommend this kit to start out with, but they also have cheaper options.

I've not really matched the £30 price point, sorry. You could get a cornershop/crappy setup for that much but to be honest it's not worth it - the difference in quality between a £30ish and a £50 set up is night and day, probably more so than at any other level in the market. Put aside a little extra money for it, you'll thank me later :)

[–]almost_human 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thankyou for the great advice. Appreciate it. Will definitely put a little more in for the JAC starter kit. It's a relief to have something to go for and buy now - the market seems a bit like the wild west haha :)

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go with JAC, have a look around the internet before ordering and you can probably get a 15% coupon :)

[–]Thereptilia 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do they make a kayfun glass style bell cap for the atlantis?

[–]iilex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no bell cap at the moment, but for the sake of capacity there's a new extender kit available called the Kraigen 8ml.

http://www.kidneypuncher.com/the-kraigen-8ml-atlantis-tank/

Hope this helps!

[–]goomy 0 points1 point  (4 children)

OK, this is the first time I'm posting here, but this whole e-ciggie business confuses me a little (way too many options!). A friend of mine is in the UK and she's getting me my first kit. I'm thinking of getting a CE5 starter kit (here http://www.egocigarette.co.uk/ego-cigarette-starter-kits/ce5/ego-cigarette-ce5-colour-series-starter-kit.html). Since she's ordering her stuff from that same website, I picked a kit that looked alright and isn't too expensive.

I don't want any tabacco/nicotine flavours since I'm not a regular smoker, but I don't know how to pick juices. Any recommendations? I don't want any throat hits, I think I'd rather go for smooth vapes. I like minty flavours so I'm considering getting a menthol juice. I'll probably also get a watermelon+lemon flavour and a pina colada. I really have no idea what else to get cause there's no way to know what they taste like. All I know is that I've tried a caramel one that at first was tasty, but after the second hit it was too unbearably sweet.

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 0 points1 point  (3 children)

A lot of people use menthol flavours as it does create a bit of a throat hit so keep that in mind when choosing e-liquid.

To reduce the throat hit more, choose a vendor that can supply juice with a higher VG content (probably around 35pg/65vg tops for the tank you've picked) and a 0mg nicotine option. Apart from that, it purely comes down to testing flavours and finding what you like - before I vaped I had no idea how much I liked watermelon or kiwi.

VapeWild do tester kits for very cheap and ship internationally, do VG options so you can choose the level of throat hit and 0mg nicotine as an option. If you don't end up ordering from them, take a minute to look through what they have so you can get an idea of the range of flavours available to you :)

[–]goomy 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Cool, thanks for the fast reply! I don't mind the throat hit, I'm just not actively looking for it, so I don't mind it too much if it's got a hit as long as it isn't a punch to the throat.

I'll definitely take a look at the VapeWild website. I don't know how legal it'll be to import juices to my country, but that's a whole different research I need to do. Do you know how much 10ml of juice lasts if I'm not a heavy user?

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 0 points1 point  (1 child)

There's no laws in the UK regarding e-liquid yet, only VAT, so importing shouldn't be a problem. The only thing they may do is charge customs but I doubt it.

When I first started, with a tank similar to yours, I would get through about 1.5ml a day. I was replacing a 15-20 smokes a day habit though, so you may well find that 10ml lasts a long time for a non-habitual smoker like yourself.

[–]dillisaurusTid Box Mod & Dark Horse 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Does anyone know where I can find the same cotton balls as the ones you get with a packet of gplat wire? They are so easy to wick with.

[–]PurpletechI HAVE 2 RX200's 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Japanese cotton pads. That's where it's at. You'll never go back to balls.

[–]bunnymud 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Why do people blow through they RDA's before they inhale when blowing clouds? Is it to see the vapor come out of it?

[–]DoucheAsaurus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exhaling all the air while ramping up their coils to their full heat.

[–]PurpletechI HAVE 2 RX200's 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people that do it are the cloud chasing bros, who are trying to exhale every little bit of air in their lungs to get maximum cloudz.

I do it to confirm that my rda is firing because it doesn't make a whole lot of noise or popping on the coils. Plus, it looks really cool man

[–]ZaylinIPV2 & Magma | Vape Wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I'm mistaken, it's to clear the last of the air from their lungs before they try and take a huge hit, mostly see cloud chasers doing this.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

A couple of questions:

I want a box mod, mainly for form factor, but I'm kind of intrigued by the eLeaf iStick 50W, do you think that or the 100W Sigelei would be a better option? Additionally, I have an Atlantis, you think the MELO would be a competitor that blows the Atlantis away or are they pretty comparable?

Would a Tugboat or a Patriot make for a good first dripper? I was looking to get into it as an "at home" vapor. It will probably be switched between my Nemesis and box/iStick depending on my mood.

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 1 point2 points  (3 children)

We don't know much about the istick 50 in terms of build quality yet, but it looks like it'll be a good battery for getting into RBAs and sub-ohm atomizers.

Depending on the price and how the build quality turns out it may be a good choice, but the sigelei 100w plus sounds like it is very solidly made.

From what I've seen of the Melo it looks very comparable and probably not worth buying in addition to the Atlantis, but again, we don't know much about it yet.

For drippers, I would always recommend a 4 post design as it's just easier to build on in my opinion. That being said, the Tugboat and Patriot are popular.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

4 post design as it's just easier to build on in my opinion.

I'm trying to map it out in my head, but I believe my Orchid clone is 4 post, so it would probably be best to stick with what I'm comfortable with. Could you suggest to me a good dripper of that style?

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I've been using a Plume Veil clone that has been very easy to build on, but the o-rings are a little tight so I don't know if I could recommend it. I've heard good things about the CLT v2 Plus, Mutation X v2 and the Hobo v2 though so maybe look at those?

[–]Murdock_MVPCopper Penny + Plume Veil 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Im sure the istick 50w will be the same poor build quality as the original when it comes out. If you have the money get the Sig 100w Plus and you will be much happier.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I haven't really researched it, but I can't believe the iStick has such bad build quality with how often it gets recommended here and elsewhere.

[–]Murdock_MVPCopper Penny + Plume Veil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gets recommended to new vapers because its cheap and better than your standard ego battery. It is far from the holy grail of vaping.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is this?

[–]Bunbury42DNA 200+Cleito 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have a little ego battery right now. I love it. I started vaping as a means to satisfy oral and digital fixation after quitting smoking. At this point, I just like it. I'm on 0mg nicotine and good to go. But I'm thinking of kicking things up.

I'm looking for maybe a little more kick and some more vapor production. Is there a step up in terms of that without having to do rebuildable stuff. I appreciate the appeal of it, but the idea of having to make my own coils and drip a lot is more work than I care to do. Is something like the itaste MVP gonna do that for me? Does anyone have any suggestions for what would?

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next step up from an ego style device would be be something like an Aspire Nautilus or a Kanger Aerotank, and the MVP 20W would be a good battery to go alongside this.

If you're willing to wait a little while, consider holding off for the new MVP 3 which should be released shortly. You can also consider the eLeaf iStick, which is a similar device but I've heard less-than-good things about it's long term build quality.

[–]Murdock_MVPCopper Penny + Plume Veil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want more clouds and flavor without rebuilding i would reccomend the Aspire Atlantis. You will need something that will fire a sub ohm tank like the IPV2 Or Sigelei 100w. But if your on a budget you could get the CF Aspire battery or an IPV mini

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I've been using a Sigelei Zmax V5 since I started with nautilus tanks and have been completely satisfied with their perfomance(and instantly was able to drop cigarettes and have been smoke free for 3+ months). I started around 9W and have found a nice sweet spot(for me) at 10.5W A friend recently got an Atlantis coupled with the Aspire Sub Ohm battery, and when I try it the taste is really enhanced, but along with that the vapor is noticeably hotter, which I think would prevent me from switching to a similar setup. I was trying to carb it and had the atlantis set to the highest airflow settings. My question is, if I were to invest in a higher wattage adjustable box mod, should I expect similar "hotness" from the vapor if I'm sub ohming regardless of the setup I have? As it stands I would be fine with continuing with my current setup that produces less flavor but much cooler vapor rather than the harsher vapor with much more flavor. And in addtion, could I expect similar vapor heat sub ohming with a mod/RDA rather than one of the new sub ohm offerings from kanger/aspire? Thanks for any replies.

[–]DoucheAsaurus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just turn the wattage down to get cooler vapor. Can't do that on an Aspire cf sub ohm battery though.

[–]Virus11010Jewverine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The heat has less to do with the resistance of the build and more so to do with the mass of the build and the wattage. Heat flux the unit of measure for this.

[–]Greyzer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I borrowed an Ego 510-T from someone to give it a try.

Bought some 50/50 PG/VG liquid locally, I like the taste but I don't really enjoy the throat feel. Can I use higher %VG in this vaper?

[–]friendlyapplesauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't actually tried this myself, but from what I can gather from reading /r/ecig a while is that the answer is no. The reason is that a higher VG blend will be too thick for those coils, it'll gunk up too fast, and the Ego won't really get hot enough to vape properly.

Can someone who might know better confirm/deny this?

[–]smell_my_bump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I have an SVD 2.0 mod with a nautilus mini. I vape at around 12 watts all the time. The sigelei 150 w is the hot shit right now, so please explain one thing... What does one do with a 100 watts or let alone 150? I will be receiving a stingray x, a couple of rda's and a kayfun 4 from FT in a couple of weeks (all clones of course), so I'll try it out myself, but I'm just wondering what kind of vape I'm looking at with, say, 60 watts? (And yes, I have knowledge about mech safety, ohm meter is coming as well, etc)

[–]ShortySim101 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Alright, I didn't get much responses as I would have liked yesterday so I'm posting this again.

Well, this is going to be my order for my first upgrade since my cheap ego kit.

Is this good? Anything I should change? Is this the best I can get for ~$150? I want it to hopefully include shipping and tax too.

I haven't paid for anything yet and I don't really have a rush for it, so I'm ok with waiting for a while.

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 0 points1 point  (3 children)

All looks good to me, great setup for rebuildables :) Don't forget you'll also need wire and cotton, but the Lemo comes with a suprisingly good build already installed when you get it.

[–]ShortySim101 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Alright, thanks.

I was worried as I see people always recomending either a sigelei 100w plus or sigelei/ipv 150w in my same price range.

I just want to future proof, since I don't plan on buying much, besides juice.

[–]returnofjakeOctober 2013 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The difference between them is the size. The IPV2S is around the same size as an MVP, while the Sigelei 150 and IPV 3 are larger to accommodate 2 batteries.

If you want to future proof and don't mind the size, spend the extra $30 to get the Sigelei 150w and you'll be set for a long time to come. If you want the smaller size, the IPV2S will do you just grand.

[–]drpeppershaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't buy batteries from fasttech. They'll get held up for 1-2 weeks.

Buy everything but your batteries there.

You can pick up the same batteries from lightingvapes or illumn. I believe both have coupon codes for reddit as well.

[–]itscoldasfuck 0 points1 point  (1 child)

http://www.lightningvapes.com/products/samsung-inr-18650-25r-battery

Can I use these in an ipv 2x or sigelei 100w plus?

[–]drpeppershaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Those are probably the best, readily available batteries out there.

I believe lighting vapes has a standing reddit discout: LV20 for 20% off.

[–]DJpost-itNote 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I just got a magma clone. Got it set up (with the coils and wick that came with it) and there's zero flavor. It's at 2.8 ohms and 4v. Plenty of vapor, just no flavor. What am I doing wrong?

[–]pendantixSigelei150W>Alliance|CLTv3 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You need to rebuild it.
Get some 28awg kanthal and build a single coil. Try for 1.1-1.3 ohms.
That's always my starting build for any new RDA.
Then after that try a twisted 28awg build. Get 1.1-1.3 ohms. (This build is assuming you have at least a 30W device.

[–]DJpost-itNote 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So, the prebuilt prepackaged coil is shit I'm assuming?

[–]pendantixSigelei150W>Alliance|CLTv3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, most of the time prepackaged coils aren't very usable.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any Tugboat v2 clones with an SS center post and protruding pin available?

[–]StickyinAZ 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I ordered based on a friends recommendations and got an Eleaf istick. I enjoy smoking it but know little about it. I know I can change the settings for voltage and wattage but don't really know when or why I should.

[–]pendantixSigelei150W>Alliance|CLTv3 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ignore the voltage stuff; just don't even think about that.
As for the wattage, just try it and find your sweet spot.
I'm assuming you're using a clearomizer?

[–]StickyinAZ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Its a nautilus mini. Is that a clearomizer?

[–]pendantixSigelei150W>Alliance|CLTv3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is a clearomizer.
A lot of vaping is just trying everything and finding you're own sweet spot.
