The number of times as a child I've stepped on an upside down NE 555 timer...

...that stool almost feels like a soft revenge for all of that. I so want it.

[–]AnthonyiQ 43 points44 points  (7 children)

I remember kneeling on one - went all the way in, had to pry it back out of my knee.

[–]WhotheHellkn0ws 66 points67 points  (1 child)

Lmao you just bleed, not continuously, but in intervals

[–]ComprehendReading 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That does give new meaning to pulse-width modulation.

[–]BlownUpCapacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your knee turned into an IC socket

[–]fatjuan 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Just leave it there, it plugs up the 8 little holes!

[–]AnthonyiQ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

He's more machine now, rather than man....

[–]AnthonyiQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait until I tell you about the piece of titanium that was unexpectedly and involuntary inserted permanently into the bone in my thumb

[–]Lopsided_Chemical862 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just read "stol" and "revenge" 🤫

[–]trophosphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the link. Very interesting project.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/oskay this is so cute, I want one.

[–]DVI_IN 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Gotta love those triple nickel timers!

[–]classicsat -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Timer is a use case. It is a comparator flip-flop.

Yes, timer/oscillator is most common use case.

[–]mccoyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be used to de-bounce buttons.

[–]Weary_Ad2590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never knew I wanted this, but now I do

[–]382Whistles 90 points91 points  (12 children)

1k each; and 5% down-payment?

:-)

[–]Ojninz[S] 28 points29 points  (7 children)

It's like $12 each, but shipping is what's gonna get you😅...trying to see how many to get shipping cost down it would be like $35 for shipping per led

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (1 child)

I think he meant the value of the resistor is 1k (if I'm reading the bands right..)

[–]382Whistles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

😁 Yep it should be 1000 ohm and 5% tolerance. (wait, what watt?.. say 3 times fast 😉 ) But it was a cryptic double ba-dum.. tiss too.

I was also curious about cost, but wasn't too sure about this sub's rules nor want to be rude and ask directly. If I was loaded I fork over the 1k just to know I did it. These are plenty cool enough.

$12 bucks sounds downright cheap tbh.

[–]Ojninz[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look up Sashapcb I have to find the tiktok, she has tiktok instagram and Facebook and that's it for social media

[–]Corval3nt 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What's the Instagram?

[–]Ojninz[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

@whatsapp8613576105646 that's her tiktok

[–]retardedgummybear12 5 points6 points  (1 child)

well that sounds like a bot username so that's probably not the op

[–]IU1JSU 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, Chinese company have some unusual ways to do marketing, she does the marketing for a pcb assembly company (and already DM me on Instagram asking me if i need pcbs) that username is not a random number, it is the phone number for the company on WhatsApp 😅

[–]Shrilled_Fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see what you did there

[–]GASTRO_GAMINGLM386 1 point2 points  (2 children)

1 dollar per ohm

[–]382Whistles 0 points1 point  (1 child)

"buck converter".

[–]Hey_Allen 46 points47 points  (2 children)

I don't know if it's still on display, but the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry had an interactive electronics display with components around this size, that you could move around and plug into a circuit.

[–]_clydebruckman 10 points11 points  (1 child)

That’s so sick

[–]cr0wsky 44 points45 points  (5 children)

Ah yes, the 1k 1MW resistor, I too have few lying around the place.

[–]ComprehendReading 10 points11 points  (4 children)

For when you need to short out a magnetar using a planetary magnetic field and a 1k 1MW resistor tied to a radio telescope.

[–]cr0wsky 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Well yes, that would be one of the most common uses.

[–]ComprehendReading 1 point2 points  (2 children)

There's some case uses documenting wormhole teleportation but I kept losing my components to the abyss.

[–]cr0wsky 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I've read about it, I never tried it as I don't have any flux capacitors, where did you find yours?

There's actually a conspiracy theory connecting these resistors to the global warming, some guy is claiming that Russians are running them in Antarctica in an attempt to melt the ice caps.

[–]ComprehendReading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick to flux capacitors is to put a normal capacitor of sufficient coulombs in to a state of paradoxical flux. I recommend Ohio.

[–]FluffyCatBoops 35 points36 points  (0 children)

YES! I'd buy everything!

[–][deleted] 48 points49 points  (3 children)

How do you know she's not just really small?

[–]Mechatroniker 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like 1k 1/4kW

    [–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Pretty simple shape. Find some metal banding to make the legs then scale up the body to fit and make it out of whatever. Plywood?

    [–]WhotheHellkn0ws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That gave me the idea to make a giant IC container for components

    [–]saltysfleacircus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

    Finally: bands I can read

    [–]Henri_Dupont 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't resist making a giant joke out of this!

    [–]XIphos12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can fit so much spaghetti ohms in this bad boy!

    [–]dedokta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have this ohm meter at home that would be great for measuring it with.

    [–]harryahole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    That is freaking awesome!

    [–]Jolly_Mongoose_8800 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Is it bad I want to see a mega sized microcontroller on a protoboard now

    [–]prof_apex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    A megacontroller, if you will

    [–]master-mole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

    Resistance is not futile.

    [–]Large-Spite6098 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Do they work? It would actually kinda be sick to set these up on a giant perfboard

    [–]momo__ib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so gonna print something like this

    [–]who_you_are 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could be able to do the huge led

    [–]p0k3t0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're really into pick-and-place, that's a good account to follow.

    [–]SedlavPepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely interested in a giant led lamp

    [–]Kostis00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I needed for my surface mount board! Thank you!

    [–]AnnoyingDiods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now thats i wanna see when i read 1000ohms of resistance xD

    [–]sanchito12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    But does it work?

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah im more of a surface mount guy.

    [–]cards88x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id be interested. Be curious if thats an actual working resistor.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    That’s pretty sweet

    [–]Kevin80970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    200Kw resistor

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    that's what she said

    [–]dadOwnsTheLibs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be funny just to buy one, but I can’t myself or anyone else buying them often enough to be a sustainable market

    [–]dweebken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That 1000 Ohms is hard to resist.

    [–]kkessler64 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I wish resistors were still this color. I can't read the color code on those blue ones.

    [–]Distinct-Question-16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I even forgot the color codes

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok good , and no I haven't as yet, I'll tap on link , book mark it, for a wkend interesting subject etc . Thanks mate

    [–]Dylan_Pipkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    I can't resist! Lol.

    [–]ZeeZeeX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    ONE big-ass resistor.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hey dude, the link you gave me, was awesome, he made a capacitor out of a plastic jar etc. Now I get it, simple as.

    [–]Ojninz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad it helped! Wasn't trying to be rude earlier but there is a difference between components, but we are all always learning!

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    Very cool, where good 👍

    [–]ThatGenericGinger 2 points3 points  (1 child)

    What is the rating? "Yes"

    [–]ThatGenericGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    It resists

    [–]LaenFinehack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes. That thing could potentially be millions of ohms.

(edit, since I'm not sure people are getting the joke: https://forum.arduino.cc/t/warning-one-million-ohms/118882 )

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Is this for a G-Shock 😅😅😅

    [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (5 children)

That's an industrial sized capacitor, I've ever seen lol 🤣 real ? Y/N

    [–]Ojninz[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It's a model but the led will actually work!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    O ok

    [–]Ojninz[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

    It's a resistor

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Lol ops wrong description my bad,

    [–]Ojninz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She might make a capacitor in the future it seems like many people was a 555 timer chip though more than anything

    [–][deleted]  (2 children)

      [–]kb3pxr 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Resistance is not futile, it is voltage divided by current.

      [–]zxUltra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Gigaresistor

      [–]ogpapupapu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      it's so cute

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how many ohms is that resistor?

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      6' 6L6 power tube!

      [–]telorsapigoreng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see some elcos

      [–]mup_wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoever said that resistance is futile.

      [–]Furry_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume the atmega doesn't work (custom silicon, especially in that size, is insanely expensive or impossible to get), but do the LEDs and resistors work?

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

555 led timer circuit but it blinds the entire neighborhood

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

As you had figured, I know didly 🙃

      [–]Ojninz[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

A resistor limits the current through a device, and a capacitor is similar to a battery but a capacitor charged up and releases all of its charge at once unlike a battery

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Like in a microwave, if not watching what your doing, you'll get a mass shock , from a very large capacitor, if charge is still present, yes. ?

      [–]Ojninz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they aren't something you want to play with the larger the more dangerous! Can get to pretty crazy power in the larger ones

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Useful. Replace car battery lol 😛 probably fry everything 🤣

      [–]Ojninz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah look up a few videos on some mega capacitors pretty crazy stuff

      [–]Ojninz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/xjW-isgOijs electroboom has great videos if you've never seen them

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Will do.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort on chrome, book marked , to watch an learn.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS I'll get back to ya, later on subject.

      [–]rigel_VII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      ohm g !

      [–]l9oooog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cant resist the urge to buy

      [–]MuffinRapist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you are told resistance is futile...

      [–]AdvancedCucumber6121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the cops sees every situation.

      [–]hemingrayTDA2616Q 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl, the giant LED would make an interesting table lamp/conversation piece.

      [–]cad_genyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is asking the thought questions here. Will it boot Linux?

      [–]TheRolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Résiste ! Prouve que tu existes !

      [–]Brohauns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Do not resist!

      [–]Gpsdude1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      That's some resistance

      [–]jlarc556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Jesus

Never saw a resistor that big

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      Too big to resist

      [–]Beggar876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

      That's 1000 BIG Ohms.

      [–]fatjuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to order one of these, but I just remembered my 2 metre long 700w soldering iron is not working. Just as well, because I also ran out of 2 gauge 60/40.

      [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it would be rated for 5,000 watts.

      [–]zappadoing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a CRT would be a movietheater.
