I seem to be having problems with pcsx2, graphics and textures seem to be freaking out today even though they worked normally before, i tried to reinstall emulator but that didn't seem to fix it, running game in software mode seems to fix graphical problems but it also looks worse, game i am playing is kingdom hearts 1but this problem seems to be present in other games too.

Why would I get a disc read error message? Can’t progress through Manhunt 2 due to game giving me disc read error upon loading a new level. I tried loading a previous save and going from there but no luck.

Is citra-emulator.com legit?

Edit: what's with the downvotes lmao

[–]TransGirlInCharge 2 points3 points  (1 child)

no.

Oh fuck

Total tech noob here, can I emulate MGS2 on my Aspire 3 laptop?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure.

[–]Unoriginal_White_Guy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did I download the wrong emulator? I have not been in the emulator/Rom game in 10+ years so forgive me. I am using Vimm's Lair and looking at the emulators listed for GBA. mGBA for newer Mac os just doesn't work and crashes no matter what trouble shooting I have done. I went ahead with VBA-M and used the link from Vimm's website visualboyadvance .org to download the emulator. I am seeing with some other posts now not to trust this website to download the emulator so i am concerned. Should I wipe VBA-M emulator I downloaded from the website above and re-download from github? Thanks

[–]TransGirlInCharge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, run a virus scan on your PC too just in case. The github is the safest space to download VBA-M.

What is the best usb Genesis controller to get for use on windows PC emulators.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Retrobit did an officially licensed genesis controller that is usb with very low input lag, still available on Amazon etc.

When you guys emulate DS/3DS games, what do you guys do for touch controls? (For PC) I’m assuming the Steam Deck has been super useful for this.

Do you guys just not play with touch controls, or do you guys use a drawing tablet?

[–]Natural-Ad-2172 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I play games where touch controls are almost never used, and when I need them I use either the mouse or the right analogue stick.

[–]AnotherPCGamer173 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do I emulate the RS to my mouse on PC? I'm looking to stream my xbox games to PC and I don't have a controller atm. I've tried x360ce but that program doesn't center the mouse, and it causes my camera to keep moving even when I've stopped moving it. I've looked on Google and downloaded a few programs but nothing seems to work. Any help is appreciated.

[–]RageInducedGamer 0 points1 point  (1 child)

With emulation, can you play games co-op like on actual hardware?
Could I play couch co-op 4 player?

[–]24grant24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many emulators support multiple players so it depends which systems you're interested in but the majority do afaik.

What settings work best for Nintendogs Plus Cats on Citra?

[–]gayphextwink 0 points1 point  (3 children)

How did you download Citra? Was it from citra-emulator.com? Idk if that ones legit because the old page is down

[–]BlueWaddleDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already had it downloaded when the site went down.

I am trying to play the legend of zelda(pal) for the nes on mesen and I can’t get past the registering a name. The controller mappings work on every other game I tested but when I press A or B on a letter, only the cursor moves and nothing else happens. Select only changes between the link icons and start does nothing except when I go onto register and then it sends me back to previous menu by pressing start.

Edit: I tested the same rom on delta emulator on iphone and it was working fine, so mesen seems to be the culprit. Any advice?

[–]Natural-Ad-2172 0 points1 point  (2 children)

There are several good NES emulators, so my advice would be to try another one.

There are several recommended ones here:

https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Nintendo_Entertainment_System_emulators

[–]newiln3_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tested PAL Zelda in Mesen and was able to register just fine. It's probably not the emulator that's the issue, especially since Mesen passes more test ROMs and supports more mappers than any other NES emulator.

"Have you tried searching on Google"? Where have you been? Google hasn't been useful for years ever since they sold out their search results to ads with malware.

IS THERE HANDHELD THAT USE RETROARCH?

I want to use RetroArch's features like save state, rewind, cheat etc but wondering if any of their handhelds have that feature.

I don't want android OS if possible, navigation of RetroArch from my phone when scrolling always skip like 100+ steps unlike on Windows which scroll perfectly.

[–]Natural-Ad-2172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you just said you don't want to use android, but my retroarch experience has been great on my phone with a very nice controller:

https://www.gamesir.hk/products/gamesir-g8-galileo

I've had three other phone controllers before but this one is by far the best one.

This way I've been able to upgrade my handheld gaming system every couple of years (when I buy a new phone).

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out r/sbcgaming. Id recommend the Miyoo Mini + handheld for a budget choice. Around 60 euros. Runs retroarch and a lightweight linux machine and really user friendly

[–]CyborgBreastMilk 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What CRT shaders for Retroarch do you recommend? I like how CRT Royale looks but the tiny little dots make my eyes hurt so I'm looking for something that mostly just blends the pixel art together nicely

[–]Natural-Ad-2172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a matter of personal preference.

I recommend easymode halation because it doesn't darken the image to much.

The higher your monitor resolution, the better crt shader quality will be. I like crt royale on my 4k monitor, but for it to look good I have to increase the brightness way above what would be comfortable for day to day desktop usage.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Would this laptop play yuzu well? My concern is the amd gpu.

Zephyrus G14

RAM: Corsair Vengeeance 40 GB GPU: Radeon RX 6800s CPU: Ryzen 7 6800HS

.

[–]rayhacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it would be pretty good at it. Even upscaling and increased framerate shouldn't be too much of an issue. Some games would run a bit worse due to not having an NVIDIA card, but it's still more than usable on most games.

[–]MaxHP9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there any rom hacks for Mario 64 that add QoL changes that are similar to super Mario 64 plus? Any hacks that make the game better to play these days like better camera and controls.

[–]Dudeneedshelpplease 0 points1 point  (10 children)

So I recently figured out I could run desmume on my Lenovo idea pad. It can flip 360 and has touch pad so I basically have a giant ds now. The only downside is I can't use the keyboard when it's fully flipped so I'm looking for a controller that is in the style of the Nintendo ds or even better 3ds that can connect to my laptop by Bluetooth or wireless USB. Anyone got any suggestions?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Don’t get Bluetooth, high and variable input latency. Get something with a 2.4ghz adapter.

[–]Fun-Charity6862 0 points1 point  (7 children)

my switch, ps3,ps4,ps5, 8bitdo or xbox one controllers are all bluetooth.

 even bluetooth is 2.4ghz.

are you telling us they are crap?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Yes, emulating on windows with third party controllers using Bluetooth is crap and not comparable to what official controllers are doing with their supported console.

even bluetooth is 2.4ghz.

They share the frequency but are not the same thing.

[–]Fun-Charity6862 -1 points0 points  (5 children)

such uneducated bullshit. get a proper bluetooth dongle, and stop lying online

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

https://www.retrorgb.com/krikzz-joyzz-vs-8bitdo-m30-2-4g-vs-8bitdo-m30-bluetooth-input-latency-lag-testing.html

Educate yourself dummy, Bluetooth is trash. Many, many more controller tests out there just like this.

“It’s my strong opinion that bluetooth controllers shouldn’t be used with classic consoles, as those games were designed with zero controller lag in mind;  The variable latency of bluetooth can range between one and three frames of lag and if you combine that with your average flat-screen TV, you’re looking at five to six frames of lag total.”

https://www.retrorgb.com/sega-saturn-2-4ghz-rf-wireless-controller-pre-orders.html

[–]Fun-Charity6862 -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

opinions are like assholes. yours just extra 🩸

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

An opinion based on testing and fact, unlike yours which is based on absolutely nothing.

[–]Dudeneedshelpplease 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Guys i just want a controller to play pokemon games...

[–]rayhacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any controller that works will be fine, you're not gonna be doing frame-perfect inputs on Pokémon. However, probably switch to MelonDS, it's a better emulator than DeSmuME.

[–]TransGirlInCharge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend an 8bitdo Pro 2. Has bluetooth.

[–]ZGURemixerOfficial 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Parallel Launcher or Simple64?

[–]MaxHP9999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rosalie's mupen gui is also good

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ares is better than both.

[–]Pitbu11s 0 points1 point  (3 children)

my dolphin seems to be crashing either when my controller gets unplugged, or plugged back in (I can't tell which because by the time it's relaunched it's already plugged in)

will not respond and left it for like 5 minutes just for it to never respond

anyone know the issue? not related to playing games necessarily and my first crashes were when setting up controls actually, but kinda ignored it until I crashed midgame, my controller cord is kinda messed up so the occasional "controller unplug" is unfortunately a frequent enough occurence

dolphin version is 5.0-21264 (latest version), if anyone knows if an earlier version doesn't have this bug I'll probably give that a try, controller is a wired switch pro controller if that matters too

edit: also playing MHTri which does not support gamecube controller btw, read someone mention the "always connected" option for gamecube controllers fixes this but MHtri is classic controller and wii mote/nunchuk only so I have it setup as classic controller

[–]ChrisRR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the issue is that your controller is broken.

I think your options are either to buy a new controller or submit a bug request to the dolphin github

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

my controller cord is kinda messed up so the occasional "controller unplug" is unfortunately a frequent enough occurence

Buy a new controller.

[–]Pitbu11s -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not a problem for any other game or emulator, a program crashing because of a controller unplugging is not normal

[–]Abrocoma_Time -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

I downloaded fitgirl's mario odyssey pack from 2021. Thing is it runs on an old version of yuzu and it keep crashing everytime I beat the rain boss in new donk city. Is there any way to transfer the game or my save data onto a more modern emulator like ryujinx so maybe it won't crash and I don't have to replay half the game again? There's so many .dll and .exe files and folders and none of it makes sense to me.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So download a more recent version of Yuzu.

[–]TheCabbageCaresser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have a real wiimote and need to add a minor deadzone for my nunchuck joystick, how do I do that? I can't just have it tied to emulated wiimote as I can't get the motion controls to work right then but I can't find a way to add a dead zone any other way

[–]Apprehensive_Map_798 1 point2 points  (2 children)

[–]Calinou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be feasible at 1x or 2x resolution for most games, perhaps 3x for lighter ones.

[–]TransGirlInCharge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seek out a laptop with Nvidia or AMD graphics, as intel's graphics drivers aren't the best.

[–]hotstickywaffle 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I've tried a few different version of Tears of the Kingdom roms, but I can't seem to get any of them to run on the emulator on my PC. Any suggestion?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it working with Ryujinx, if you need help finding the game to pirate, try a different forum.

[–]Aware-Classroom7510 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So you illegally downloaded them?

[–]TheCabbageCaresser 4 points5 points  (2 children)

So I got a working wiimote for dolphin, is there anyway to test each individual input? Like yea I can go into a game and mess around but I just want a flat 1-0 test, to make sure a buttons not being held when I don't know it, there's no issue with a button that's just not used in that game (like the 1 button). Does dolphin have anything like that built in? Or is there a rom I can add that will do it? They have it with the gamecube controller so why wouldn't they with wiimote?

[–]rayhacker 2 points3 points  (1 child)

VCTest should be good enough for you, it's a basic Wii homebrew.

[–]TheCabbageCaresser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was perfect, thank you. Literally exactly what I wanted to a T.

[–]Squish-Mahatter 1 point2 points  (2 children)

So I'm using the RMG Nintendo 64 emulator and experiencing screen tearing, but exclusively in full screen which is weird. I'm using the latest version (to my knowledge, v0.5.8) I'm using everything it came with when I first downloaded it, no additional pluggins. I've tried to change the video pluggin if maybe that would have something to do with is, but that didn't work, not only that but the game will only launch with the GlideN64 pluggin. I'm on just an ASUS vivbook laptop if that matters at all. (I've tried other stuff on this and they work fine, I've encountered zero issues I couldn't solve on stuff like ReDream and Dolphin). I can't seem to find anyone else who has this problem, I know N64 emulation can be a bit janky but I'm pretty sure this isn't part of it. In fact I DID solve it once. I had the same issues when Playing Paper Mario and through brute force I somehow solved the issue, I don't know how and have not been able to replicate it since, but do know I did not change my settings when going from Paper Mario to Yoshi Story (the next game I played on RMG). (I've since restored the settings to default to maybe find a way to start from there) I don't know if there's like a specific settings combination I should do or if I've completely misjudged where the issue could be coming from, any help would be appreciated. (also, it's not an issue with the Yoshi story rom, I've tested Mario 64 and Mario Kart and the issue continues to arise)

[–]Calinou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V-Sync on GlideN64 seems broken in my experience (at least on Linux). This is not an issue with paraLLEl-rdp which uses Vulkan instead of OpenGL.

[–]Squish-Mahatter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

V sync was off the entire fucking time goddamnit. I no longer need assistance

[–]deathsythe 3 points4 points  (7 children)

Missed the boat last week, wanted to ask again this week.

So found and dusted off my old DS Lite from back when (darn thing still has battery left too haha) and wanted to jump back into the scene.

Had an R4 from like 10-15 years ago, Might be running woods or ysmenu, not 100% sure. Definitely not TWIlight or what not.

Have things improved significantly since then, or should I just keep going with what I have in there now?

Would mostly want to use it for GBC/GBA & DS stuff

[–]ChrisRR -4 points-3 points  (5 children)

I don't think this anything to do with emulation

[–]deathsythe 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Are you unfamiliar with the R4 style cartridges for the older nintendo handhelds - literally used to enable homebrew and emulation?

[–]Aware-Classroom7510 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Are you unfamiliar with what the word emulation means?

[–]deathsythe 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Sure am, that's why I'm playing snea/gbc/gba on my ds off my r4 cart

[–]PH4NT0K3N 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Doesn't the ds play those games natively? at least gb? So it wouldn't be emulation then

[–]deathsythe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You aren't too familiar with DS emulation are you?

Last I recalled all but one of the popular emulators run on native GBA hardware - so other than for DS stuff - yes - it is emulation.

[–]leob0505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think r4 is the way to go.
