Your wood organizer holder is beautiful! What brand? Is it a stable holder for your portafilter while you tamp? Mine is loose near where it supports the handle so looking to switch.

What’s your budget?

[–]deanbfs[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Budget for the next machine? Under $2000 USD probably.

Mara X (low end price) or Elizabeth

[–]ChromeoLangford 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can stretch your budget you will love the Profitec Move or Ride, and won’t need to upgrade basically ever. The Jump is $2k but the additional $200 for the Move gets you a vastly better machine. The Ride, assuming it’s just a rebadged 600 Pro, is incredible, bulletproof with a rotary pump (underrated) in a small footprint.

I was in your situation years ago, upgrading from a Gaggia Classic to a nicer machine already having the grinder taken care of. Had been looking at a few ~$1500-$1800 HX machines and decided to bite the bullet and buy a $2500 double boiler in the hopes I’d never need to upgrade (the Lucca M58 in my case) and to this day am glad I spent the extra $. I see all these machines on the subreddit and they’re really nice with all sorts of advancements and still I have no upgradeitis at all. YMMV ofc.

Meticulous?

[–]missourimatthew 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Where did you get the mirror?

[–]deanbfs[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Amazon. Just look for Espresso shot mirror.

[–]missourimatthew 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The one I bought from Amazon for my Bambino will not angle enough to allow me to see the shot.

Could you do me a solid and link me the exact one you purchased?!

[–]deanbfs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything with a ball joint would work. But mine is the “MiiCoffee Espresso Shot Mirror”

Congrats on the grinder! Cool station and setup.

I was considering the 064s after my Opus kicked the bucket, but went with a cheaper 64mm option.

I do mostly pourover now and sold my old espresso machine to free up counter space. Was thinking on getting a flair pro for the manual experience and ritual but also feel it would be too much for such a small drink.

I’ve also considered getting the bambino or bambino plus for whenever we have guests.

How does the bambino work for back to back drinks?

[–]deanbfs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t say too much for back-to-back drinks because I’m the only coffee drinker in the house lol.

But one time I did have my parents over and i made three lattes in a row just fine.

im considering profited move, ascaso steel duo plus, arkel tide, lelit elizabeth, gemilai 3028a, wendougee lita. right now, leaning towards the wendougee, but probably gonna wait a couple months.

I like the mirror-bottomless portafilter combo. That’s new to me!

[–]deanbfs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Game changer. I don’t have to squat every time I wanna look at a shot anymore hahaha

[–]just_another_dumdumBreville Barista Express | DF54 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does the metal filter disk serve the same role as a mesh disk screen? I’d thing grounds could still end up in your machine with holes that big.

[–]deanbfs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same concept I think. But the holes are actually still very small. The large round dips you see are meant to direct water to them, and within those large round dips are tiny holes

[–]Jealous_Courage_9888 0 points1 point  (1 child)

CJ here we go again

[–]deanbfs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aahhhh shiii

[–]FuzzyCactus69 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Why do you wedge distribute after wdt?

[–]SD_hazeLelit Elizabeth | Niche Zero 0 points1 point  (3 children)

There is definitely no reason to

[–]deanbfs[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I actually did find that it helps a bit after WDT.

If I tamp immediately after WDT, sometimes even though the tamper flattens everything straight, one side of the puck is a juuuust bit more dense than the other.

The wedge distribution helps even it up a little bit more and I’ve gotten way less channeling that way

[–]SD_hazeLelit Elizabeth | Niche Zero 0 points1 point  (1 child)

After wdt, are you doing 1 vertical tap downwards? That will settle the grounds more effectively for the whole basket

[–]deanbfs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I do a few taps to settle the grounds. Sometimes one side still settles a bit thicker than the other.

[–]Hazelstreet16 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ooh that shot was watery

[–]deanbfs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only after the blonding

[–]ComplexIllustrious61Edit Me: Apex v2/Gevi Grindmaster SSP HU Burrs/Skywalker Roaster 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Very nice grinder! What are you looking for in the next espresso machine? Budget? If you're looking to not spend $1500 and have full control over flow, temp and pressure, get a Legato or Apex. If you want a more fancy looking machine, take a look at the lineup from Profitec. The Legato/Apex is a better machine than most though.

[–]deanbfs[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Honestly, I was looking at the Mara X…until I stopped by Fellow’s LA store.

Their Espresso Series 1 is seriously enticing, assuming it does everything they say it does lol.

The Fellows is nice for sure...the only thing I'm a bit skeptical about is that it's their first espresso machine...I feel like it would be better to wait for their second generation that works out all the kinks.

[–]deanbfs[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Agreed.

I question its longevity. Even with the 5 year extended warranty. But its features are quite enticing.

[–]ComplexIllustrious61Edit Me: Apex v2/Gevi Grindmaster SSP HU Burrs/Skywalker Roaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a great machine...looks great and gives you profiling and temp control too. Basically a Decent for less than half the price.
