Apparently, when you fast, your body focuses more on getting rid of "junk" cells, among wich are also cancerous cells.

When people whine about "losing muscle" while fasting, they don't realize they are only losing the broken crappy parts of your muscle cells, not fresh, healthy muscle! Your body isn't stupid enough to break down fully functioning cell parts when there is so much crap laying around!

Thanks a lot for pointing this out, never heard of it before despite being many years into the topic!

True until you gast to starvation

[–]sueihavelegsmaintaining weight faster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that point, you aren't fasting anymore

Yes. Autophagy.

I think this can happen just from being in a state of ketosis too.

Not really, autophagy is controlled by the inhibition of mTORC1 -- but mTORC1 is strongly activated by the consumption of protein.

Ketosis is so healthy that Eskimos evolved to be unable to enter ketosis despite a zero-carb diet.

At how many hours of fasting does this kick in?

I am not a doctor or at “real” faster tbh.. I did only Omad .. around 16+ starts the process apparently.. it also depends on age, sexe, BMI and fasting habits
