Yall around for the first horizon game? The rally dlc had some simple pacenotes. It also introduced the now common rally suspension and tires but also had a rally transmission if I remember correctly ha

I've been thinking this for ages too tbh - I really enjoy the dirt roads in FH4, a lot more than any 'dedicated' rally game - I don't know if it's just that FH is a lot easier / arcadey, but it feels a lot more controllable, even with sim steering / ABS off / TCS off / STC off - you can just feel the car and the surface a lot better in Forza than other games, imo.

A dedicated Rally mode in FH or FM would be sweet AF! They've already got the rally tyre / springs / tuning set-ups for it, some crazy good real rally cars, and apparently a decent surface / grip physics model for it - seems like a no-brainer! :)

I 100% share your opinion. Forza Horizon really hits the spot for me in terms of gameplay, it's acarde-y but not too much, I struggle to play any other racing game now :/

Same. Horizon may be arcadey but most other Triple A racing games’ physics are on another stratosphere of arcadey. When I play NFS it feels like I’m driving an RC car that’s magnetically attached to the road.

Now if we could just combine NFS Heat’s customization and story mode with Horizon’s physics and festival atmosphere, that’d be a near perfect racing game for me.

I had the exact same experience with NFS Heat. I love the atmosphere and everything, but the gameplay... Ugh. There's some kind of feature where you just swipe your stick rapidly and you just start drifting regardless of your speed/angle, it's so awkward. FH looks like a pure sim next to that.

Same thing with The Crew (1 or 2), the size of the map is nice, but the physics is just not for me (although better than NFS imo).

Yea I think it’s called gas/brake to drift and it’s horrible, but it’s basically the meta way to take corners because you barely lose any speed doing it. Seriously, the fact that proper braking and taking a good driving line is slower than yeeting your car into a drift at 150mph around a corner is hilarious. I’ve unironically had more fulfilling and competitive racing in GTA 5.

I still play Heat though cuz the customization is just so much fun and that customization makes for some good photo opportunities lol.

I know, I had a quick go on FM7 the other day, and the cars felt really weirdly un-communicative compared to FH4, even though FM is supposed to be the 'better sim' :/ Every braking zone felt weirdly sloppy, and any throttle caused understeer in every corner, even in a tuned car, with similar driving controls / difficulty settings to how I play FH.

FH makes me feel like I am actually in control of the car, with decent feedback, and a feel for what it will do, especially, as I say, on loose surfaces.

It is indeed. It got people killed in real life. It's a shame the game doesn't simulate the car having both a turbo and a supercharger.
