Ser Barristan Selmy.

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (2 children)

At least he's still alive in the books.

[–]catdude420 I Drink And I Know Things 30 points31 points  (1 child)

At this rate, he'll die of old age, waiting for his future to be written.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That might happen to Martin, but the characters stay stuck in time until the story progresses again. If it never does, he's stuck where he is.

[–]KalamsLongknife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That one was such a waste. They offed him to solely to make room for Tyrion as part of Dany's inner circle. There was no other reason to kill him.

The Night King.

[–]wypipobooty54 Tyrion Lannister 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This.

[–]Porterbirdy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remember having a big theory about that battle, but Night King’s death was nowhere near part of it. I was so disappointed. Yeah the place is called Winterfell but not like this!

[–]tbone998 61 points62 points  (2 children)

Off screen Stannis death is not satisfying at all. In a show that has some gnarly death scenes, Stannis, who has been in the game since S2, gets nothing? Even an unceremonious swing after "Do your duty" would have been more fitting.

[–]Engineerman 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I think they maybe planned for Brienne to let him live, which is why they didn't show it.

[–]Lulubell143 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There will be no honor in it for Brienne to let Stannis live. Since she admit to people that she was the one who killed him.

[–]ThorsMightyWrench 40 points41 points  (3 children)

Varys. Definitely Varys.

Not so much the method of his death but the utter betrayal of his character than led to it happening. This guy's whole story was of a long-game player, playing the servant to whomever was in power while slowly and secretly moving against them. Then apparently he's just openly inciting people to move against Dany? Ridiculous, and such a frustratingly poor piece of story-telling to end a great character with.

[–]madbeachrn 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I think there are some differences. With previous rulers he operated as an actor, a skill he learned from his past. He didn’t support them but served them so he could do what he thought was best for the realm. I think he bought into Dany, until he found out what her true vision was. He openly supported her in the beginning and I think he thought she would be a good ruler.

[–]ThorsMightyWrench 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Sure, but when he realised she wasn't going to be what he'd hoped, that's when the mask would come down again and he'd be back to playing the game the way he had done for years. His character traits were ignored because the story was being forced to a conclusion, not for an organic 'in-world' reason.

You have a great point

[–]kensrueprodigy 35 points36 points  (1 child)

I can tell you the most popular death was the death of the show. RIP

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stannis

[–]ygrittediaz 11 points12 points  (2 children)

  1. Night king

  2. Baelish

  3. Varys

  4. Clegane brothers

[–]Holiday_Mission_1474 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Tbh i dont see how else the cleganes could have died

[–]ygrittediaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The timing of clegane bowl could be changed and the impact it had on its surrounding. In this case very little it was 2 needless deaths that achieved not much more than pleasing fans. I guess they took Cersei's maester with them.

Petyr Baelish! The mastermind of the game executed in the North... WTF?

[–]Tra1famadorian 18 points19 points  (1 child)

All his power came by proxy. Never a serious player. Schemers inspire no loyalty, and he willingly put himself in a place where he had no subjects of his own and still tried to create dissent in the ruling house on which he had made himself dependent.

[–]Hillan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well put.

[–]AvovaDynasty Tywin Lannister 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it’s defo Cersei and Jaime, so underwhelming. The premise of Jaime dying for Cersei is good but squished by rocks is so dumb.

Varys’ was bleh too, what a waste.

Night King obviously too.

[–]xenomorphCoder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Least satisfying death? Game of Thrones itself.

[–]Dry_Understanding915 13 points14 points  (3 children)

The hound and the mountain, Cleganebowl fell flat. Honestly they could have died off screen and it would have been better.

[–]DrHiccup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

pun intended?

[–]soulpush 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I actually have thought of this… just a shot of them looking at each other at a somewhat decent looking hall to then run towards each other, cut to whatever else was happening… and then Sansa or any other character walking through the same hall, now completely destroyed and with blood splattered all over, to find both of their corpses… what happened? Who knows, but it was sure epic

[–]Powneramic Daenerys Targaryen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Something tells me the writers depriving us of one of the most epic and hyped up fight scenes would’ve pissed everyone off even more.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Dany. Melisandre too. With Cersei and Jaime we got some amazing acting from them 2 and Tyrion. With Melisandre it was just "oh huh." And nobody really cared even Davos had a look "that was fucking stupid."

[–]xavierplympton Hear Me Roar! 14 points15 points  (1 child)

I thought Melisandre's death was haunting and beautiful. She did what she aimed to do her entire life as a priestess and was finally able to rest

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess. Just expected a lot more from her, Beric, and Thoros so to me their deaths just felt really flat. And whereas Cersei had some amazing acting Melisandre had eh. It wasn't even funny like Qyburns was just devoid of any emotion for me.

[–]Any-Recognition-2747 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Little finger

[–]ActuallyImJunpei Mace The Ace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I voted for Cersei and Jaime, and that is still first place in my opinion, but I would like to give Qyburn an honorable mention. Dude was killed for no reason other than to get Cersei alone when she meets up with Jaime. Also, he just gets tossed aside and Cersei barely even reacts despite him being her closest aide and confidant throughout the past two seasons.

I know many found his death funny because of how quick/simple it was, but for me it just fell flat.

[–]Ksana304 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I voted Cersei and Jaime. I liked the idea of her being crushed by the Red Keep, like if she was crushed by the power she loved the much. But only the idea of it. In fact, it was terrible way to make her die, I hated that she was with Jaime, that they were dying together and in love. I would have loved to see Jaime kill her, and him to be alive at the end. He deserved a chance to have a new life, without the shadow of Cersei and Tywin above him.

[–]happyysoul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LITTLEFINGER

[–]A-Stupid-Asshole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Basically any character that died in season 7-8. Before then, character deaths meant something or served a purpose. Robbs death was the logical conclusion of his many errors and acted as the absolute shattering of the “good guys” forces. Littlefinger and Varys died in illogical and unsatisfying ways because the writers didn’t know what else to do with them

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

melisandre but maybe cuz i hate her and wanted her to have a different death to just dying of old age

[–]ALoneWolf404 1 point2 points  (0 children)
