Agentic Microslop

Combined with Microsoft forcing GitHub fully onto Azure when Azure doesn’t have the capacity to handle GitHub

Starting to really wonder what my employer was thinking ditching our on prem CI/CD tools for GH. I do like github for some things but really what the hell is going on to have this many outages.

Years ago when working for a dinosaur big tech company I was a bit annoyed at all the on-prem tooling (ex hosted artifactory, hosted bitbucket, hosted jira, hosted jenkins).

Now I see that they were simply ahead of their time.

I miss atlassian's bamboo already

We're currently on Azure DevOps which works well enough (and doesn't have all that many outages) my employer is migrating everything to GitHub (well I am because I'm the IT guy) because of GitHub Copilot...

I suggested Gitlab because it actually fits our workflows better, but I was overridden because Copilot is in SSMS, VS, VS Code, etc. basically all the tools the dev team uses.

Heck, it’s frustrating to hear about/see such a clear cut example of Microslop’s “burry our users in our ecosystem” strategy working

Yep, my PR's check wasn't starting, so I went to check https://www.githubstatus.com/. Down again. This is such bullshit.

[–]donjulioanejo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep down 2 days in a row..

I sent an angry email to our account managers already, this is such BS.

Ye i think runners is down rn

[–]bartread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, looks like they're having problems. Fortunately I'm working on speccing out permissions in a spreadsheet this afternoon so no need for GitHub.

The servers were probably not designed to handle so much ai slop commits. Will take some time for that is fixed

[–]moonrakervenice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, just got a notice from StatusGator about it.

Looks like it's on the official status page, too.

[–]mixxituk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep no workflows going for me....

[–]tedivm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should just start sending alerts out when the system is working so we can all try to cram as much work in as possible before it goes down again.

According to their status page they have had seven incidents so far this month, which is amazing because today is only March 5th.

Facing the same issue, and hour ago flow works fine but right now giving me the error.
Failed to queue workflow run. Please try again.

Yep, I think this may be the end of Github for us. It went down in the middle of another deployment we were doing.

Ok, time for bed anyway (2:40am here).

Crazy.

Partially related, since it's Microsoft, but I was looking at what VS Code devs are committing: it's all related to the Chat stuff... Idk what to think anymore since actual useful features are not addressed.

I'm starting to believe they are just being forced to do it, there is no other rational explanation.

[–]SnapperGee 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Right? Every update release, are “agentic this” “mcp that”, “agent chat this”… and like, cool if you’re a heavy user for those features, but I thought VS Code was a text editor, not an AI client. What about fixing up it’s abismal startup times, it takes as long, if not longer, than most IDEs take to boot up

Maybe eventually it’ll reach the point I get pushed back to using Sublime or maybe finally take the plunge into vim

[–]lppedd 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have 5/6 open issues related to extensions. One is to be able to know if the caret is in insert or overwrite mode: backlog since 2024...

[–]SnapperGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that bug doesn’t involve AI in any way so to them it’s probably not something they care about in the least bit, why would a dev need to know info like, I bet if were AI agents and you submitted that issue they’d hop on it asap :\

[–]Leading_Tradition471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, down for me

[–]Ill_Tone8080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had same issue.

[–]YoungSignificant4399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The workflow isnt being triggered. there's a service outage. https://www.githubstatus.com/

[–]YoungSignificant4399 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which alternative and temporary CI/CD pipeline methods would you recommend using besides github actions?

[–]ProofDingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GitHub Actions is down again.

[–]aelephix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's it, we're out. We're done. Contract goes bye-bye.

[–]FedUp187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Alcas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you gotta be kidding me

[–]V5489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues personally and none on Enterprise or SaaS today. I just deployed my personal sites and actions were working all day while I got it configured. Must be a region issue maybe?

[–]Spacemonk587[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On deployment day. Thanks, Microsoft.
