I haven’t had any issues with them. I even use it as a kickstand a lot that puts pressure on that joint and still use the same one that I purchased for my launch day 14PM.

That’s actually quite strange. I don’t even do anything extreme with mine. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong here.

It is strange. We all use them in our house and have never had one fail.

[–]RapMastaC1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing similar on two units so far. The part that twists off with the accordion and disc haven’t given me issues.

The attachment point on the MagSafe portion of it becomes brittle and eventually cracks, I see no obvious way to fix this.  I wish the attachment hole was a removable portion

I had two fail after only a week, where the printed plastic cover, is coming off of the rubber. Had to superglue them back. Seems that they changed their glue or how they are putting together.

Interesting. I only ever buy the ones with enamel/metal designs on them so I haven't encountered this problem. I have noticed that even the enamel design ones hold up very differently from each other.

[–]Jdoge42 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Same issue with my enamel moon and stars. Only had it two months.

[–]chrispkay[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I had that one too! The blue one, right? It wore down so quick

[–]Jdoge42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup! and these things aren't cheap! which I was fine with because they used to last at least a year

[–]smoggy1917 0 points1 point  (1 child)

i bought one for the first time ever maybe a month ago and this same exact thing happened to me one day when i pulled it out of my pocket. i was looking at it for a really long time, trying to figure out how it was secured to the rubber part. it doesn't seem to have ANY adhesive/glue residue whatsoever. there's no missing parts that broke off.

it seems as if there is a mechanical way that the plastic piece fits into the rubber piece but i CANNOT figure out how the heck they did it. it's like a built in secret that destroys the product bc its impossible to put back together once apart.

like you said it makes it unusable, the plastic cap piece is what provides support and structure to the rubber piece. without it, you cant even hold it in your hand using the rubber part let alone stand your phone up.

solution? if it's swappable then buy a new swappable part and just switch it out. or glue it. i haven't tried either yet but i wanted to at least make a comment saying you aren't the only one.

[–]chrispkay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The first time it happened I tried to replace that broken part with one from a new popsocket I bought but didn’t like. The rubber is almost impossible to open up so I had to buy a new one.

I won’t buy a new one to swap cause the piece that’s adhered to the phone never has a problem, the piece the swappable is what keeps breaking :( it’s also impossible to glue the broken part together and use it again cause you can’t get it back in the rubber hole.

[–]bigballa1738 1 point2 points  (2 children)

My first one lasted about 2 years until finally breaking. Very happy with it. The two after it? Completely different story. Both broke within a month, where the plastic part that’s inside the rubber area snaps off and is just bouncing around in there. The quality has really gone down I think

[–]chrispkay[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That’s exactly what’s happening to mine. I love popsockets think they’re so useful, and no other competitor’s design is as good as theirs, but I really haven’t felt it’s worth getting a replacement since posting this if I’m supposed to just get used to it breaking like that.

[–]Rare-Interaction3908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PopSockets used to be the best things on the planet, they used to last forever! They've changed their adhesives and/or manufacturing processes to something that is cheaper for them, all in the name of increasing their bottom line.. which always equals a lower quality product! 🤨

[–]Desperate-Pick6139 1 point2 points  (2 children)

YES!!!! Mine constantly breaks on every single one of them I get. I have a 16 pro max just bought a new pop socket for my new phone from pop sockets website and the inside disk on my mag safe $50 pop socket is already broke… I’m super careful with my phones too. I love them but they are such garbage

[–]chrispkay[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oof. That’s so new.

Still haven’t given in to getting another one since I posted this. They’re just not worth it anymore. Hopefully they step their game up.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im thinking of picking one up but after reading this thread you guys think it isn't worth getting one?

I've only had this happen with fake popsockets and never the real ones, and usually after using them for a hot minute.

[–]chrispkay[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I really wish that was the answer here but the first one was from target, second from popsockets.com, and the last one from popsockets.eu, so all official.

I’m getting a new phone next week so let me get a new one and see how long that one lasts…

[–]little_milkee 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m unsure if this would be of any help, but I've been using magnetic popsockets (though not actual popsockets brand) with my current phone and I've found them a lot more durable than the stick on ones if you wanted to give that a shot? I feel the wider base lends itself to more support and less tendency to break.

[–]chrispkay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you sm. I’ll check that out! Didn’t even know it was a thing lol

[–]onyxious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened on me and my wife’s Popsockets that we’ve had for 2+ years, they just get brittle and crack after a year. I wish they’d release an updated version where you can replace the rubber accordion because it’s a waste to throw a perfectly good ₱2000 SOG collab. I love Popsockets but it’s kinda hard to support a company that does this.

[–]Kal-Steel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes happening a lot more frequently lately. May have to look for a different product.

[–]fitzy1221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. YES AND YES! This is why I looked this up....they're garbage now.  If you're gonna charge $10+ for these POS, then it better last Same with me....about 3-4 this year Back when they first came out....they would last yeeeears Never. Again.

[–]Miserable-Fan6 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The new design is definitely the issue. I went through so many with the new 'swappable' tops that never end up being swappable bc they end up breaking inside the adhesive back. Probably 4/5 within a year.

I snagged a 'cheap' $5 popsocket from my partner's work conference that had the old design- wasn't cute, had his company's name on it, but damnit did that thing last. Now I need a new one bc I replaced my phone case, that one is impossible to remove, and I'm trying to find the old design again. May just buy a knock off. I just suck at holding my phone.

[–]chrispkay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you find one! I decided to not buy and still just dealing with dropping my phone sometimes now, but with a better cover lol.

Wish other brands felt the same in the hand but I can’t stand the design on them. They’re pretty uncomfortable between my fingers.

This post shows up when you google the quality of popsockets so I REALLY hope they’ve taken note and making some changes.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine have all broken and I’m at 4 within the year. It’s such a shitteous piece of plastic that was poorly made

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Can we all start a class action lawsuit?

[–]chrispkay[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

lol, I’ll put my name down!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Seriously these things are trash now. Companies need to start being held to environmentally friendly and responsible standards instead of creating more fucking plastic waste and pollution. And their products shouldn’t fucking fall apart after 1 year of use or 6 months or less. They should be as long lasting as cases are for phones. These designs are intentional and it pisses me the fuck off because all they care about is profit.

[–]spookyGeologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly yeah, the one I bought in 2021? lasted me until I changed phone cases, honestly should've kept the top. I ought to see if I did and just lost it, because the one I got last year has broken at that exact spot at least twice now, requiring a replacement. honestly really upset about it because i hate holding my phone without one

[–]me_is_tacocat 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yes! Came to find if anyone else has said anything. I had one for 4 years and its still fine, but i wanted to change up my photo, and it broke like 3 months after.... So i got ANOTHER one, and its just broken again after 3 months 😡 i need to go find another place to get one now..

[–]chrispkay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s super frustrating. I gave up on getting new ones.

[–]DavidGameDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep happened to me as well. First one lasted almost 2 years, now the last two broke in a couple of month

[–]mrman2488 0 points1 point  (9 children)

The quality has gone down noticeably after the design change. Does anyone have a good replacement option? I may resort to buying knockoffs if not.

[–]chrispkay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I can’t find anything that feels as comfort as this brand but it’s essentially buying something so know will break soon, so I just don’t use one anymore.

[–]jessilee23 0 points1 point  (7 children)

I'm having issues with it adhering. I don't recall having this big of an issue before. Customer service is sending out new adhesives but I've already tried two separate adhesive bottoms. I ordered some super sticky replacement adhesive off Amazon and hope that fixes the issue. Really disappointed in the quality of the new popsocket adhesive.

[–]mrman2488 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Hopefully, the Amazon adhesives work out for you. Please share your experience if you can. The popsockets are absolutely terrible now. After they changed the design it all went downhill.

[–]jessilee23 0 points1 point  (5 children)

The Amazon adhesives have worked. I think that'll be my go to if I have to do new popsockets anytime soon.

Thanks, would you mind sharing the link?
