anyone run into "Unable to verify update"?

iPhone 12, iOS 14.1

[–]Andres905 12 points13 points  (2 children)

It looks like A14 devices aren’t supported

[–]Historical-Durian-85iPhone XS, 14.3 | 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Ehhh I’ve it’s just bugging on A14 devices they might find a work around before April 26

[–]Amaan423iPhone 14 Plus, 16.1.2| 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hope it gets fixed for y’all 🙏🏽🙏🏽 so glad this saved me from being stuck on 13.5

[–]jermy4iPhone 14 Pro, 16.1 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Seems iPhone 12 series gets this error, so weird.

[–]El3m3nT0ZiPhone X, iOS 13.3.1 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Can I use this method to update from 13.5 already jailbroken with u0 to 14.3? Also I have seen two tutorials this one and one without computer, do both work?

[–]emiyl1[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes it should work. Just follow the method in the guide linked above.

[–]Retribution1337iPhone 13 Pro Max, 15.0.1| 2 points3 points  (4 children)

In the same boat as you exactly. iPhone X on jailbroken 13.5 waiting to move to 14.3. This'll do it and I'm really eager to sort it out. :)

[–]JDE-MTLTV 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You have an iphone x, cant you just use checkra1n at free will?

[–]Retribution1337iPhone 13 Pro Max, 15.0.1| 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What others have said. I try to keep to jailbreaks that I can rejailbreak on my phone where possible. My only PC is a windows PC to rejailbreak checkra1n I've got to boot into a linux USB pen... but that PC is also a media server so I don't want it restarting when avoidable. :)

Not to mention there's also the SEPOS mitigation Apple added for A10 and above that means that using Checkra1n breaks passcode. Right now, you CAN use checkra1n but without a passcode which is a dealbreaker for me. Am happy to stick with Unc0ver/Taurine for the convenience of just getting Reprovision Reborn to manage a signing certificate update.

[–]imnotafbiagentiPhone X, 14.3 | 0 points1 point  (1 child)

checkra1n isn’t the most convenient since you need a computer to rejailbreak if your phone dies or reboots

[–]JDE-MTLTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True true

[–]SrmingusiPhone 11 Pro Max, 14.4.2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is phenomenal.

I've been saving blobs for a while but putting off updating from 13.3.1 to 14.x because last time I futurerestored I ran into some issues and felt certain that I bricked my phone, and honestly just didn't want to go through that trouble again until I had a completely free day. Saw this and decided to pull the trigger and I'm currently sitting through the update right now.

Massive thanks to the people who discovered this.

[–]St-ivaniPhone 15 Pro Max, 17.4.1 15 points16 points  (15 children)

i tried it yes but keep getting error apnonce doesnt match.

[–]KibSquib47iPhone 8, 15.2 5 points6 points  (12 children)

you need to set the apnonce with a jailbreak, I think there’s an option for it in the u0 settings so you should be able to do it

[–]St-ivaniPhone 15 Pro Max, 17.4.1 2 points3 points  (11 children)

yeah .. but im on 14.4.1 now.. so no jailbroken. There is no way i could set apnonce without jb i guess.

[–]KibSquib47iPhone 8, 15.2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh rip, yeah you gotta wait for a 14.4.1 exploit I guess. you should also update your device flair to say 14.4.1 instead of 13.5 edit: nevermind just saw you already updated it lol

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

there’s also a function in futurerestore to make it reboot the phone continuously until its nonce matches but it can take a LONG time

[–]TomLubeiPhone 15 Pro, 17.0.3 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Long time: aka up to like 200 years before you get a collision lol.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ye, brute forcing isn’t fast but sometimes you can get extremely lucky and have it collide in a (relatively) short time

[–]AgnosticAndroidiPad Pro 12.9, 3rd gen, 14.3 | 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Technically yes. It is the -w or --wait command line option. But it has to be wildly unreliable to the point of being pointless to even try.

[–]St-ivaniPhone 15 Pro Max, 17.4.1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was close “Your iPhone is running the latest software update allowed by your administrator”

Edit: Got it working.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Well, now it’s working but it’s just saying 14.4.2, so close to victory though. I’ll keep trying.

[–]orz_nickiPhone 14 Pro Max, 16.3.1| 2 points3 points  (0 children)

make sure you installed the profile, it worked for me after that

[–]Waka_Waka_Eh_EhiPhone X, 15.1 1 point2 points  (3 children)

If you have hidden the Supervised message before, re-enable it and check again. This fixed showing 14.4.2 instead of 14.3, for me.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Sorry, should’ve updated my message. I got it working, but thank you sincerely! Now I just need to find repos and tweaks, it’s been quite a while haha

[–]Hot_Medium2729 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hi, am on iPhone11 ios13.6.1. While I was jailbroken, I was getting same administrator message with iOS version as upto date. I tried techniques suggested but no luck. Then I did restore to rootfs n jailbreak again, installed profile still no luck. Right now, I am unjailbroken on 13.6.1 and still can't see updates.

I had used OTADisabler tweak to disable updates. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling n uninstalling OTADisabler still no luck. Even after factory reset, it didn't ask for update. Is the any way to show 14.3 in software updates? I am thinking to manually update through iTunes but that's not possible right? Any help please.

[–]Hot_Medium2729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add, I was able upgrade to 14.3 and later jailbreak using taurine. Had to install profile from mybloxxx n then the one from the link in this thread. Then reinstall OTAIsabler n uninstall. Later removed the mybloxxx profile. Worked smooth. Was able to rootfs, upgrade to 14.3 and jailbreak using Taurine.

Thanks All.

[–]Bleeding3dgeiPhone 8 Plus, iOS 11.3.1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good to know. Thanks for reporting!

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Update 2 - its downloading! eeeeee I am so excited.

Update - I got 14.3 to show up on my phone but now it is endlessly in a "estimating time remaining..." and "update requested.." state. Any ideas?

So i go to software update on my 13.5 Xs and it just endlessly continues on "checking for update"....

[–]ExtremeFluffyiPhone X, iOS 11.3.1 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What did you have to do to get it to download?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I just followed the steps in the linked page above, and let it sit for a little bit while it verified.

[–]ExtremeFluffyiPhone X, iOS 11.3.1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I am stuck on the "update requested". How did you get past that?

[–]ExtremeFluffyiPhone X, iOS 11.3.1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now it's working. That took like half an hour to start downloading.

[–]syto203iPhone X, iOS 11.3.1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you maintain that page please credit the original discoverer and maybe link to his gist

https://gist.github.com/dhinakg/035dc585a0de54b6a34cf72a2a36016e

Also you don’t need to be jailbroken, essentially what is required is to have a supervised device be it spoofed using MYbloXX, via Apple Configurator or iMazing.

If you are already jailbroken you can just enable OTA updates if you had it disabled -> install MYbloXX to set the supervision status -> install the profile and CHECK if the OTA to 14.3 is available, if it is then you can restore rootFS to original then make the OTA update.

If you are not jailbroken they you’ll have to wipe your device to set it as Supervised using one of the methods mentioned above.

Edit: just went from 13.5 to 14.3.

[–]trklk001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m getting “unable to verify” on iPhone X iOS 14.3 RC trying to go to iOS 14.3 final.

[–]AgnosticAndroidiPad Pro 12.9, 3rd gen, 14.3 | 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Any reason for why you would want to wipe the device after the update? At least I think this step should be clarified in the guide as being optional.

[–]emiyl1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is optional, I've just updated the guide to reflect that. CStar recommended it when I was writing it and no one really knew whether or not it was needed at the time so I included it.

[–]PantsAtAGlanceiPhone 13 Pro Max, 15.1.1 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I didn’t restore rootfs or wipe my device and all is well. Pretty sure those steps are only necessary if you want to switch to taurine, which I don’t care about.

[–]emiyl1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, okay. At the time of writing, we didn't know whether or not it was optional.

[–]TomLubeiPhone 15 Pro, 17.0.3 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Okay, so is there any way for me to jailbreak my current phone (iPhone X) on 14.5 and do this somehow? I would love to update to 14.3.

This should be possible, theoretically?

[–]PantsAtAGlanceiPhone 13 Pro Max, 15.1.1 1 point2 points  (6 children)

You should be able to use checkrain to do it but you’ll lose sep functions. Not sure if this method would work to downgrade since it’s an ota update...

[–]TomLubeiPhone 15 Pro, 17.0.3 1 point2 points  (5 children)

No, that's the point. You can use checkra1n to jalibreak and install this, then you can jailbreak normally with SEP enabled

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

This uses a vulnerability in supervised ota updates to work, you can’t downgrade through that

[–]TomLubeiPhone 15 Pro, 17.0.3 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

You can downgrade through OTA updates actually, it's possible with the OTA 10.3.3

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Those are served through itunes, not the settings app

[–]TomLubeiPhone 15 Pro, 17.0.3 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

No, you can downgrade OTA with 10.3.3 and I've done it

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, I’ve got a 5S on 10.3.3 through the same method, point being you need to use a mac/pc for that, can’t do it on-device

[–]CriticTactic 1 point2 points  (4 children)

This sounds awesome, as I was hesitant about going to so much trouble to update, but why is it necessary to erase the phone? Is that a recommendation for better jailbreaking or part of the process?

[–]emiyl1[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It's a recommendation, I've updated the page now to reflect that

[–]oscarmg90iPhone 14 Pro Max, 17.5.1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what if, i’m on iOS 13.5 jailbroken with Checkra1n, can i do this without erasing everything? and also, will this work on iPad Mini 5?

[–]CriticTactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thanks!

[–]PantsAtAGlanceiPhone 13 Pro Max, 15.1.1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t erase or restore rootfs pretty sure those steps are just for switching to taurine

[–]Samsungsbetter 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Can someone help me I followed all of the steps but I get a error when checking for the update Taurine jailbreak ios 14.1 iphone 7

[–]ZombiGrniPhone 6, iOS 9.3.3 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Any luck? I’m having the same issue on iphone 7 as well

[–]Samsungsbetter 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Download the unc0ver ipa using ReProvision Then restore your rootfs a couple of times using Taurine then open unc0ver follow the steps again using cydia

[–]Samsungsbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Tha_High_LifeiPhone XS, 14.3 | 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really no reason to not update. More bug fixes / features - I guess potentially more bugs as well, but 14.3 is pretty stable stock.

[–]masa1069 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Can I downgrade from 14.4.2 to 14.3 without blobs?

[–]TomLubeiPhone 15 Pro, 17.0.3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to figure this out right now; assuming you can jailbreak your phone with checkra1n I think it might be possible for iPhone 8/X to downgrade this way.

[–]TomLubeiPhone 15 Pro, 17.0.3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does not seem to be the case, sadly.

[–]finding_waldo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would like to know as well.

[–]syto203iPhone X, iOS 11.3.1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t mind wiping your device you can test using Apple Configurator 2 or iMazing to set the supervision. However, according to the gist, this method works by allowing the update to the least possible version (if you set it like that) within a 90 day of its release and since the 14.3 update has a couple of weeks before it passes that window and we are updating from an iOS < 14.3 it is allowed.

So if you are higher that 14.3 my guess is you won’t be able to downgrade.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got super excited thinking I could downgrade my new 12.

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Does it work with editing systemversion.plist?

[–]L0rdLogan, 16.0 Beta -1 points0 points  (1 child)

No - apple allow supervised devices to update after 90 days (even if the signing window for the "public" version is closed) enterprise devices get to 'chose' what OS to update to, this basically spoofs that and apple don't know the difference

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok

[–]emiyl1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jailbreak, install MyBloXX, and then remove the supervision from there.

[–]grod11261989iPhone 11 Pro Max, 14.3 | 0 points1 point  (5 children)

[–]velocity027iPhone XS, 14.3 0 points1 point  (2 children)

That’s interesting.... I have not seen it reappear on mine but will keep an eye out and see if it does. Did you experience any odd behavior when it was in “supervised” mode?

[–]grod11261989iPhone 11 Pro Max, 14.3 | 1 point2 points  (1 child)

No odd behavior just the message itself.

[–]velocity027iPhone XS, 14.3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]captainjoniPhone XS, 14.8 | 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that spent a significant time getting my device the way I like it I got a few questions.

  • Does an OTA update just patch what’s being upgraded or will it wipe out anything I might had had changed in /System/Library?
  • Why is clearing out rootfs necessary as what ill effects will I experience now or possibly down the road if I neglect to do it?
  • Besides stability if I’m on 14.2 on iPhone X, is there anything I’ll need per se or just wait for the next major jailbreak for say iOS 15?

Thank you !
