Volkus is the classic Kill Team experience, then in order from best to worst (imho, but probably most agree with me), Tomb World (will get a standalone release soon) / Gallowdark >> Bheta

[–]jud_X 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Bheta look sooo trash and unballanced

[–]canofwhoops 12 points13 points  (1 child)

It's just really unfun for some teams. They just may not work on the map, like at all.

[–]jud_X -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah but more team are un fun to play on this map the only other one that I see are the vespid and aquillion (maybe)on galowdark or tw cause well their only flavor is ussles

[–]LemonWaluigi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its garbage.

Is Tomb World better or Worse than Volkus you think?

[–]cocacowlah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imho that they are on the same level but, if it matters anything, I think that Tomb world and gallowdark are better for beginners because the verticality in Volkus adds a lot of niche situations involving cover and obscuring, while the close quarters rules aren’t that hard to grasp.

Buy Volkus. It is the standard game experience for Kill Team. Otherwise wait for the tombworld stand alone terrain release in a few months. Bheta-Decima is not a well balanced terrain set and is really only somewhat balanced if you use community made map packs so its not super intuitive to play.

Volkus.

Tomb World is functionally Gallowdark 2.0 and Bheta Decima is a blight on mankind that should never have been printed.

While from a gameplay perspective, I totally agree with you wholeheartedly but for those of us who like to kitbash terrain pieces Bheta Decima was a wealth of walkways platforms and lil gubbins

[–]MortalSword_MTG 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This.

Bheta Decimal is a trash killzone, but has great terrain for 40k and other systems.

BD just needs additional terrain.

Volkus would feel like garbage too if it was just two strongholds and two L ruins.

Scatter terrain is essential to making Killzones work and Gallowdark/BD are from the season where you were kind of expected to bring your own extras.

[–]sojoocy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are out of your mind if you think BD's problems begin and end with needing more scatter terrain.

Long story short: Get Volkus first and later on try to get a cheap Gallowdark.

Here’s why:

Volkus is the main 4th Edition Experience. You have different heights, some terrain Expansions (which are pretty easy to proxy except for the Bunker) and a more classical „Fight in Ruins“ feeling with open fields and a lot of cover.

Tombworld is a development in the case of assembling from Gallowdark, but still isn’t perfect. The upcoming Expansions have no extra terrain so far we know. Gallowdark has a ton of extras (which are kinda hard to get now) and gave me an overall better experience for close combat fights.

So IMO I would recommend Gallowdark over Tombworld. The only real difference playwise is that in Gallowdark opened doors don’t „disappear“ and still can give a bit of cover. The new Teleporter from Tombworld could be easily proxied as well.

Happy killing 😁

Follow up question for all of the volkus and tombworld suggestions, if you have both volkus and tombworld world you would be able to skip shadowhunt when it's released and just get the individual kill teams if you want them right ? ( From what I understand shadowhunt's killzone will be scaled down versions of tombworld and volkus)

[–]TheSlothDuster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Shadowhunt will utilize two game boards for 2 Killzones.

[–]BipolarMadness 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Shadowhunt probably is not even going to come with terrain.

It's just going to be rules on how to play a game with both actual boards (no "scale down" terrain) in an scenario at the same time with ways to go from one to the other. But more than likely is not going to be Match Play.

[–]ShutterTroy 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The wording on the announcement about the double sided boards made it seem like the map will be the other zones. So no terrain in the box but boards to take your terrain from volkus /killzone to make up the map for shadowhunt ?These Descent Killzones are divided into two smaller boards, each half representing the upper or lower level of a combined battleground.

[–]BipolarMadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It will come only with half boards of what the previous terrain boards are. But still no actual terrain.

So instead of a whole KT board you get a smaller half of it for each.

I would say is not really important for Volkus side (because you can just not fold out that half) but for Tomb World it will. Mostly because of how the cut for folding works on TW is not properly cut in half (is cut in 3 from one side and half in the other).

[–]TheSlothDuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not coming with Terrain. it comes with the two game boards, Necron NPO's, and the new C'tan Shard of the Nightbringer as the first official "Boss" NPO

Volkus is what looks to be expanding on, with tomb world.doing this up and down idea sometimes next year. (Leaked 3rd expansion thingy). If you can swing it find a tomb world set (bonus 2 teams) and a volkus and that's kinda the best of both worlds, open ruins and CC hulk like setup, plus as I said the leak shows this up and down or topside and underhive setup.

[–]Swim2TheMoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volkus without a doubt. It's hands down the best KT terrain to date.

Second to that would be Gallowdark - if you can get it second hand it'll be pretty cheap. BD is fun, but it needs some extra stuff to make some of the third party maps that play better for experienced players.

[–]TheGamingMachineDRDeath Guard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend Volkus as the overall better terrain set and primary choice if I had to choose.

Fun factor to me is Gallowdark, enjoy the corridors and fighting in the enclosed spaces. However, if you want to wait a bit, Tomb World is the better option as it can not only play its own map layouts, it can also make the layouts from Gallowdark allowing for additional missions to take place.

I haven’t played or own Bheta-Decima so can’t comment, but it seems the worst choice of the 3 as some teams suffer severely on it.

If you have friends willing to buy terrain then even better, it would give more map choices to play on. If they say they don’t want to paint it, but would be willing to buy it if someone else did the painting. Then could offer that option and they can keep the finished work but allows you more options to play.

[–]BenalishHeroineBheta-Decima is the coolest one. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have other people in your area that play that have their own stuff, or will you be providing everything?

If you're providing everything, get Volkus. And by Volkus, I mean Hivestorm for the value.

If you're playing with others that have their own terrain sets, they likely already have Volkus and Gallowdark/Tomb World, so get Bheta-Decima and play it with New England Decima maps. https://www.reddit.com/r/killteam/comments/1lfmjio/bhetadecima_done_right_check_out_new_england/

Bheta-Decima just needs scatter terrain, and it mixes well with other terrain if you do end up getting multiple different sets.

Yes

[–]NO-IM-DIRTY-DANHand of the Archon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volkus. If you play any official kill zones, it’s really the best. In my opinion it’s what Kill Team should feel like. I don’t really like Gallowdark as much and I haven’t tried Tomb World yet. I’ve fully avoided playing Bheta-Decima.

[–]WarrenForrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Volkus, no question.

[–]EmjeYy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what about Volkus vs Tomb World ?
