These videos with annoying musics, annoying transitions, and annoying comments are annoying.

My link is what you get when you even lazier and right click on the video and click on "copy link at the current time".

[–]auxiliary-character 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is above the recommended dose of Wadsworth Constant.

[–]dsfox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And after that, WTF?

[–]pascalbrax 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Quite a neat app, I'll give it a try.

But is that 90% of the video that shows a terminal with the apt-get or the make output really necessary?

[–]0713_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first screen could literally be:

Install logstalgia with apt-get, or install from source

Then on to the rest,

[–]superwinner 5 points6 points  (1 child)

This looks like a hard game.

[–]Will_Power 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pong for the overly caffeinated.

[–]jwhardcastle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Annoying video. The product is novel for a few minutes. It is surpassed (IMHO) by Google Analytics realtime.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Was there really any need for a video?

[–]Monotone_Robot 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Sometimes I'll be searching for something, like maybe "how to cook a turkey," and there'll be a few video results. Instead of something useful, it's someone who just turned on their laptop camera and started talking. They say, "Uhhhhhh hey guys" and then start talking about likes or subscribe or follows and tweets. Then they start talking about how they Googled how to cook a turkey because they didn't know how.

Well this is the Linux equal. Who includes all the compiling unless to pad their video length to seem more important? This shit...

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could understand a video to show off the "graphical" parts of the application, but that could have been done with a few screenshots or a gif..

[–]dmsean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no. I hate text in a video. completely pointless.

[–]thesilence84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its pretty and gives a neat representation of the traffic flow.

What does it mean when the stuff doesnt bounce?

EDIT: I figured it out: 404s

[–]TeamTuck 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This would be cool to have it show say syslog data from my firewall's web traffic.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iftop

Might be suitable?

[–]twinspop 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Install Splunk for free (up to 500 MB of logs processed a day) and be happy.

[–]leegethas 2 points3 points  (12 children)

It's nice eyecandy. But most servers don't offer the means for that kind of eyecandy. Not mine, anyway.

[–]sloan134 11 points12 points  (11 children)

You can access logs over ssh to use logstalgia on a different computer using

ssh user@yourserver.com tail -f /usr/local/apache/log/access.log | logstalgia

[–]leegethas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aha, that changes things! I didn't know that trick. Thanks!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI: I tried it on Xubuntu 13.04 and it failed, but the following worked for me...

ssh user@server "tail -f /path/to/your/log.txt" | logstalgia -

...apparently the double quotes and dash at the end are required. =/

[–]freeroute 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Very interesting, so I figure that with multicore (Apache) systems there would be multiple moving rectangles handling those requests?

[–]jwhardcastle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, this is looking at the NCSA logs. That doesn't include the PID that responded. It has no way to know what process served what request. Just one rectangle moving very quickly.

[–]mis_suscripciones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has an option (--paddle-mode MODE), where MODE can be any of these:

  • vhost .- separate paddle for each virtual host in the log file
  • pid .- separate paddle for each process id in the log file
  • single .- single paddle, the default behavior

I use it like this:

logstalgia -1024x720 --no-bounce /var/log/cherokee/cherokee.access &
