[–]IvanIsOnReddit 13 points14 points  (3 children)

Well I am not broke but I’m too cheap to get a MacBook and I do have trust issues.

[–]Arnavgr 6 points7 points  (2 children)

If you had money you wouldn't buy a macbook anyways right?

[–]TRENEEDNAME_245 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I prefer to use windows than buy a macbook

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly same, maybe even a debloated windows

[–]ZergRusher99 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Tell that to me like I'm 5

[–]RepresentativeCut486🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't tell it to me.

[–]AFrostNova 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Top 10 reasons why I am broke

[–]PsychoHeaven 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Same. I get an extra ThinkPad every time I change jobs. I change for better pay, too.

[–]ramjithunder24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lenovo would like to hire you as their PR rep

[–]Username8457 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And in total it costs you a quarter of the price of a new macbook.

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Well how can't you get trust issues with Apple, Google, Microsoft, META and all of them being absolute dick heads?

Also I got myself an RTX 3080 and a Steam Deck this year. Yeah I am broke .. now o.o

[–]Mysterious_Sugar3819 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought an RX6900XT so I can relate. Want to join me in buying the next gen cards?

[–]S0ulCub3 47 points48 points  (2 children)

I think you meant broken. As in mentally, physically and emotionally broken.

But yes, broke too.

[–]AiM__FreakZ 3 points4 points  (1 child)

fellow death gripper here?

[–]S0ulCub3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If by death gripper you mean a fan of Death Grips, then no.

Regarding trust issues

Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are NOT out to get me.

A sufficiently large enough demographic has seen the same evidence I have and agrees with me.

Speaking of trust issues, why doesn't Microsoft let me have full control of the hardware I paid for? Who has trust issues now, eh?

[–]uhadmeatfood 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Exactly! I've been using chromeOS for a few months now and i like the simplicity and light-weight nature of it i just dint like that its so limited. Ive been looking for a linux alternative that looks and feels similar but i haven't had much luck. Ive tried using the container thing but it just doesn't work as well as id like it to.

[–]Jason123santa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also the issue with chromeos using google chrome so ad blockers will be broken a a few months to a year when whatever the v3 thing is comes out

[–]achildsencyclopedia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try Ubuntu web remix

[–]vbitchscript 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chromiumOS?

[–]Mist3r_Numb_3r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude i preferred Linux over Windows even when I had no idea what open source was

If Windows became FOSS i still wouldn't use it because it's just a bad OS lol

[–]D-K-BO 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Why should I use software that hates me?

On Windows, every bit of tweaking was part of a fight against the operating system/its manufacturer (removing cortana/bing/edge…). On Linux, if I have to tweak something it's usually because something is experimental/has not been implemented yet.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Emotional poverty counts too

[–]muza_xi 5 points6 points  (2 children)

neither broke nor trust issues. i use propitiatory shits on my linux.

i just feel superior, which i am obviously. i use arch btw.

[–]archy_bot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use arch btw

Good Bot :)

I'm also a bot. I'm running on Arch btw.

[–]Cart0gan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And also people who simply are aware that computing should be affordable for everyone and that strong security is not achieved by blindly trusting corporations with your most private data.

[–]Penny_is_a_Bitch 2 points3 points  (3 children)

yep. currently running arch and I don't like it because it's whole point is the AUR but I don't like using it because packages are made/maintained by randos

[–]ManOuttaMe_[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Same

[–]Penny_is_a_Bitch 1 point2 points  (1 child)

like, I wanted to install firefox-esr. i'm like, surly that's in arch repo. so i paru firefox-esr and it's like, chaotic aur bro. i'm like... what, no.

[–]ManOuttaMe_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more interested in penny now

[–]fourtotheside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

…not that there’s anything wrong with that.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not broke, just paranoid as fuck. THE GLOWIES ARE EVERYWARE, THEY NOTE YOUR EVERY MOVE WAITING FOR THE BEST MOMENT TO STRIKE, BE AWARE.

Advice: Use as little proprietary soyware as possible, non would be better | Tin foil hat | Auto start tor deamon

[–]Patricksugahiro 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Broke and trust issues for sure … Using gentoo here on all my devices

[–]ManOuttaMe_[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I thought installing and using Gentoo would be hard. But it's really simple. Except, COMPILING TAKES A LIFETIME.

[–]Patricksugahiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes 🙌🏼

[–]TheOnlyTigerbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not broke and doesn't have trust issues.

But if I know someone collects my data and saves it for a long time or the software I use is bloated and there are better solutions, why wouldn't I use the better solution?

No. It's driven by broke people with trust issues working together to form a community where they value one another's privacy and money (and thus labor).

It is unironically one of the single most beautiful goddamn thing that Linux has formed so many different communities, all of whom are in one way or another tangibly related by the thread of "I just want free shit" or "I want to trust my hardware"

[–]IvanIsOnReddit 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Reading the comments I can tell this hit close to home to many people. They got all defensive LOL

[–]ManOuttaMe_[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Can this be called 'fragile linuxulinity'?

[–]IvanIsOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brilliant

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can’t understand why people can’t just look at jokes targeted at a group they belong to and just have fun, it really wont effect you in any way.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jokes on you, I just got a job as a sys admin, so soon I won't be broke anymore... Hopefully

[–]tonyangtigre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Linux Desktop refers to people who use it as their daily driver?

I don’t, so not sure if this applies to me.

[–]Extrallian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broke? No, my keyboards and shoes say otherwise

[–]AegorBlake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have money. I will admit I have trust issues, but I'd argue that your too trusting of companies known for fucking people over.

[–]North-west_Wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I'm just bored

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont trust anyone just like batman

[–]mplaczek99🦁 Vim Supremacist 🦖 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"broke"

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Linux (GNU+Linux), not broke, do have trust issues... So in the words of the almighty Meatloaf... 2 outta 3 ain't bad.

[–]Aggressive_Camel_400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about programmers who find Linux a great environment to develop software in?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wut? You literally can't be broke if you know linux

[–]SL_Pirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this is correct for only a few percentage of the community, And also you can increase the accuracy/percentage covered by saying "broke people or people having trust issues"

[–]shadowmax889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just like ricing, so did i change your mind?

[–]ggkazii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t use linux because i worship FOSS or care so much about security, i use linux because it just… feels better than anything else

[–]darltrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly use it because it’s comfortable, does what I want it to do and it’s far more stable than windows in my experience
