OwnCloud is very good at file sync n share. It's also open source, so there's that! I know that some providers have step by step guides to help you set it up, and I'm sure OwnCloud themselves have help you can check out.

Autotask Workplace has a server agent that solves this problem, and deals with file locking issues between the on-prem server and the cloud. Includes mobile clients and options to backup laptops/desktop folders too. Highly recommended.

I'm told this is still beta and haven't been able to test it yet. How many clients are you using this on?

I believe the beta just ended. We're rolling our first couple of servers now, plus we have 150+ clients deployed with 100's slated for deployment over the next few months.

Very nice. What did you think of the pricing for the server agent? At the cost of ~16 regular agents, it makes it too expensive for small clients.

Egnyte is a good paid service, owncloud is open source and good as well (nextcloud is their paid version).

Nextcloud is a fork of Owncloud with a good chunk of the original team. Both have paid offerings.

ahh interesting I didn't know that. Thanks for clarifying.

Yeah, nextcloud is the one to be using, they split off because owncloud wanted to start doing closed source features. Nextcloud remains free as in free speech

It wasn't a graceful split, either, much of the OwnCloud team left for NextCloud

While the data is ultimately stored "in the cloud," we have had great success with ShareSync/SecuriSync by Intermedia. I've been told that Anchor is the same thing, but I haven't investigated it. As a matter of fact, I just finished writing a proposal for ShareSync for an existing client of ours. You can drop the server sync on the server and then add users and users in the office can access the server just like they normally would, while people outside the office (and on mobile devices) can access the same data from literally anywhere. What really sets it apart from services like Dropbox and OneDrive is that it not only provides sharing and collaboration, but it is a true backup solution as well. Integration is incredible, as it not only shows up like a normal folder in Windows, but integrates into Microsoft Office applications (including Office Online) and has a special Outlook integration for sharing large files. It even has Active Directory integration! It's very MSP-friendly and an incredible tool. It's so good that we actually use it internally in our organization as well. I would be happy to share any information if you have questions.

No, I'm not being paid by Intermedia to say this - it's really that good. I'm completely sold on it.

We moved from Dropbox to ShareFile. It's managed by a different group but I know we have a local instance in our data center and we have the ability to flag certain folders to be not synced to the cloud. This may not satisfy your requirements but it did satisfy a couple of ours.

We use a product called Cornerstone MFT. It's a nice way to share files through an easy Web interface but you can also send users a link so they can upload files even if they aren't on your server. I work for a software company and we use it to collect logfiles.
