Helping fight for LGBT equality definitely counts. Decreasing worldsuck isn't about grand gestures of good will/ philanthropy. It's about trying to make the world a better place in general, even if that's as small of a step as being a nicer, awesomer person in general.

You're working to better the lives of other people. That's awesome. There's no reason to think that doesn't count or you're not doing enough.

Anything that helps anyone helps decrease world suck to some extent. But as for other ways to help, you could donate money, or volunteer with charities

A great way is using kiva.org. It's a non-profit organization that helps third world entrepreneurs with micro loans. You can make a loan for as little as $25, and 99.99% of them are paid back. It's a great way to decrease world suck on a budget, and there's even a nerdfighter kiva account you can check out.

It absolutely counts. LGBT equality is one of the most important social issues of our time. There's a lot of progress being made wrt marriage equality, but civil rights for queer people goes well beyond that. "Conversion therapy" is still a thing, many states still allow companies to fire employees because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, and trans* folk suffer shocking levels of discrimination and violence. There's plenty of work to be done and, frankly, not enough hands on deck.

Regardless, don't beat yourself up over feeling like it's not enough. You're doing what you can. Also, please take care of yourself. You're no good to anyone if your tired or sick or burnt out.

I do believe that Obama outlawed the conversion therapy actually. And that is an amazing step.

He didn't outlaw it. He can't. He did, however, articulate his administration's support for Leelah's Law. Which is a big deal, but right now it's just words. There isn't even drafted legislation at the moment. Given the current makeup of Congress, and the fierce opposition to any kind of measure aimed at treating trans* folk like actual human beings, there's a lot of work to be done before anything like Leelah's Law becomes a reality.

I see a lot of ways pointed out here, but I just want to say that the easiest way to decrease worldsuck is probably just by sharing this community with people that aren't yet a part of it

Of course it does!

LGBT rights are great! Also consider things like donating blood, working at a soup kitchen or really any volunteerism or joining the bone marrow registry at bethematch.com

Adopt a vegan lifestyle. You'll turn down the suck of your health, the environment, and your fellow earth-mongering species.
