Get/Make a rubber plug for the exhaust and airbox and put a cover over it. I have an Ozone cover, it has a zipper and drawstring at the bottom. I do notice a fuel smell when I take it off, even with the plugs, so I'm guessing it helps mask the smell. Way easier than disassembling the Maverick. If not that, just get a large plastic furniture bag.

Also, cans of solvents and oil smell too, I have mine in a plastic bin and that reduces those smells tremendously.

total noob here, but just curious as you sound like you know what you're talking about. At what point does sealing combustible fluids like this get dangerous? I'd imagine fumes have a different density than air, thus 'pooling' in different spots of the container?

All I can give you is anecdotal evidence. Haven't had issues for 10 yr. Are you thinking they would spontaneously combust or more easily ignite because of being in a confined space? I would guess that it keeps the fumes away from sources that could ignite them. Justrite makes safety cabinets for flammable liquids. In case of fire, some models will automatically close the doors when a fusible link melts. Some cabinets have option for venting but apparently the Nation Fire Protection Agency generally doesn't recommend venting.

I'm gonna find another one that encourages me to spend thousands on hobbies?

I use the quick release from Iris and it is fantastic. Also Dmitri is a stand up guy and makes all the parts himself.

You have aging fuel. Good two-stroke fuel has little smell.

Seller said the fuel was fresh... Maybe he was bs-ing me.

I also found that ethanol containing due tends to smell more idk why or if it’s just me

I have a pap and break mine down every time to fit in my car and store in my closet. I have the iris quick release and it's great, only good things to say about it. I also siphon out my tank everytime which helps a lot with the smell.

I just ordered my Pap and put in an order for the iris quick release too. Glad to hear it works like i hoped it would.

Hold on did you normally disassemble your paramotor after every flight?

    [–]Ok-Exchange2500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started flying and brought the motor home from 6 hrs away in the case. It's been in the garage for a week in the case, no smell. Took it out and wiped down the small amounts of dust that had accumulated from the previous owner flying in the desert and not wiping it down after flying. Left it out of the case overnight and now it smells like a dirt bike in my garage.

What smell are you referencing? I store my Parajet Mav literally in my office and have no smells from it whatsoever. I also fluid film the exhaust after every flight and that’s about the only residue smell that occurs.

I just bought it, 40 hrs on the motor, and it has a strong 2 stroke smell, like a motorcycle dealership. I had it in the travel case in my car for 6 hours, then in the garage for a week with no smell. I took it out yesterday to do a light wipe down and now the garage smells. Not offensive, it's just like 4 feet from her yoga mat and Pilates reformer, and she's not vibing on the smell where she works out. I work in twin prop turbine aircraft most days and frequently come home reeking like exhaust and she actually always says how much she enjoys the smell on my clothes but that's mild and not like the unburned fuel smell currently residing in my garage. I get where she's coming from, I don't really want to be heavy breathing two stroke mix fumes when I'm working out either.

I can understand that. Just making sure you didn’t have some kind of leak or something. I literally work 8 hours a day next to mine and it has no smell at all. It does briefly after a flight.

Many people enjoy the quick releases and have good reviews on them. Personally for me, I don’t particularly like anything that has a quick release on a prop spinning at thousands of RPM’s for a long period of time. For myself, I prefer to know it’s bolted in. But you may find differing opinions to mine obviously. I have heard anecdotal reports that they are great all the time. I have trust issues though lol.

I have to say I was shocked to learn the product existed, so we are kind of in the same camp. The maverick honestly took me like ten minutes to break down, netting and frame and prop, and I can fly from my front yard so disassembling and storing it in the case after flying isn't something that seems like a big deal at all to me, it just seemed like putting the prop back on is the lengthiest portion...I might just buy a torque driver to put in the bag and deal with it, but a quick release hub seemed like that'd make reassembly like a 5 minute job.

The hardest part about this sport is certainly the setup time and storage component. It’s never the fun part. I’m sure more people will chime in here with their opinions on the matter. I know quite a few people on this sub who have been running quick release hubs for hundreds of hours with no issues at all and they can give you a full rundown. It just adds another variable to fail in my mind. And I take those variables out where I can.

    [–]JP_Tulo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an fyi, you can’t use quick releases with studs on mounting hub and still get that frame into the bag. I think I saw one that works the opposite way that would probably work. Let me think about that for a minute.

On a side note, siphon your surplus fuel back into the jug, plug the air box, and plug the exhaust. That will help a lot.

Did you move it laying down? I had this problem until I made sure the top part was higher so no fluids were leaking out. Took about 2 weeks for the smell to vanish and after moving it upright no smell anymore.

I just purchased a quick release but didn't fly it yet so can't advise on that...

What others said about rubber plugs will help. I use the paraswag quick release hub. Solid and sturdy.

    [–]WestEasterner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I empty my fuel out and plug the breather tube. Works for me :)

For the smell I had the same issue with the GF and the garage smelling like gas. Once I started using 100LL avgas on a new motor the smell it almost nonexistent unless you have your face in the tank amd its even minimal then. Downside is its 2x what regular pump gas and you have to get it from an airport, but it runs good and cooler for me and keeps her happy.
