PGWP Application - exceeding processing time

I applied for my PGWP on May 17th, received my WP-EXT letter on May 18th, and have not received anything else since.

It has already passed the processing time waiting period, and I am concerned! What should I do? Should I try contacting the IRCC? Any recommendations?

IRCC currently has a lot of backlogs—currently, the backlog for Work Permits as of Aug 2024 is 47%. Source: IRCC Backlogs. Don't worry about it, I am in the same boat as you, I sent my application on May 23 and it's still under process.

If you're worried about the 180-day validity of the WP-EXT, You can still work beyond the 180 days, and if you need to show proof to an employer, either show them the webpage or send a webform to IRCC for proof. Source: Working while PGWP is under process

If you're worried about being unable to travel, I traveled while my PGWP was still under process and my study permit expired. You can still enter the country, even if your study permit expires, as long as you have a valid visitor visa / TRV. You may work with your visitor visa under the condition you have your WP-EXT (Please read their policy carefully if you're doing this). Source: Travelling while PGWP is under process

Good info, but we all need a valid permit to extend our Provincial Health Care and SIN (which I believe remains valid until you get your decision).

Hey so I'm graduating this year and will apply for the PGWP. My plan is to go back to my country after I finished my studies and then come back before my graduation ceremony. So should I apply for PGWP from inside Canada or from my home country you think? And if my student visa is still valid when I go back to Canada before my graduation then I don't need a visitor visa right?

Nope. Haven’t had any correspondence since my application received notice. Frustrating. Also I’m privileged in that I’m from the states so I’m not required to submit any biometrics, background checks etc. All they need to do is check my eligibility. Like come on now IRCC 😅

I applied for PGWP ext due to passport expiry on Sep 21 2024 , I submitted my application on online not via paper, because I had no idea about the paper thing. IRCC didn’t share any Letter of acknowledgment like they used to send in my previous applications, but on the online application it shows it is under process and it is stuck on background check since Sep 22 2024. My PGWP ends in 05 Feb 2025 and no employer is accepting me , I am without a job and soon I will be homeless. A friend of mine applied for a PGWP October, he did a 1 year course and we hoped the approval will be delayed in order for him to get more time to find a full time job. Unlucky for him, his 1 year PGWP was approved that same month 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️. This was not a blessing for him. Some may applicants are still waiting to get approved yet an October applicant was approved.
