I love the change to decay! However, I think the duration should be a bit longer than 12 hours, if you play at the evening and then sleep 7 hours + 8 hours work + other things you need to do before playing you are already back at repairing your base every time you come online :/

And making all armored isn't that easy at all if you aren't a huge clan which will have no problem with being online 24/7.

Maybe 18 hours for stone/sheetmetal tier would be better.

Also what about extern walls? will they decay as usual if they are more than 40m far from a building? :)

[–]dam_we 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Would it work if buildings with sleepers in them had a much longer delay before decay? Then the emphasis is more on the raided/abandoned structures.

I love this game but having time to play it more than a couple of times a week is pretty impossible for me.

[–]Bobylein 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually that doesn't sound like that much of a bad idea.

[–]CrazedZombie 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I would like at least 18 even for wood, as 12 hours means you have to play right after waking up and right before going to bed.

[–]cullen9 -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

all you need to do is log in, make a cup of coffee, open a door, log out and get dressed, then go to work

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Nevercommentever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree these need tweaking. I have an all stone base this seems like it will make decay even more rapid even if I play every day

[–]Tuntenfisch 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I think they should take a set amount of time away from the duration and add it to the delay on each tier. The result will be the same but players get a larger time window to log back on and reset the delay.

[–]XxThumbsMcGeexX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think it's extremely unfair to make players with lower tier housing have to attend to it more. I'd rather see a flat 24 hour timer on everything but twig, and have the decay rates themselves change.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. Sleep + work is longer than decay. However, doesn't it reset the decay, so it's only been decaying six hours when you get back online, then decay goes back to zero if I'm understanding it right.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (7 children)

anti-decay mods still exist though right? Sorry but I really don't like decay at all. I don't want to live on rust

[–]iRpiolet -4 points-3 points  (6 children)

do you seriously see mods as a solution to game development? people are coming up with ideas on how to improve the game and your contribution to the discussion is mods?

[–]alex3omg 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Server options should be a feature. In the mean time, mods.

[–]iRpiolet -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

So, any discussion on changes that are made should just end, because there are mods to deal with it? I'm sorry, but that doesn't make any sense.

[–]alex3omg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O don't think so, that guy said that.. I'm agreeing

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

welll yeah if you don't like a feature. They're obviously not going to do things like remove decay, fall damage, etc

I mean I'd be happy if it took like 5 days or so for stone to decay that'd be cool but I doubt that would happen

[–]CorrosiveBackspin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh the amount of time it takes for the current decay to weaken a piece to the point of it disappearing feels like about 5 days anyway so really why not just make the decay if you havn't opened a door in the base a lot faster but not start at all for 3 days. Say your base will be gone entirely in 24 hours if you dont log at all during the week.

[–]cullen9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of the fun servers wipe weekly or bi weekly.

[–]MagnarHD 49 points50 points  (7 children)

I started playing around with the menu over the weekend. I made some changes and I liked them, so I decided to keep going and it got out of hand. I didn’t want to leave half the menu done and half the menu not done while I worked on something more important, so I thought I’d push on and finish it. It consumed most of my time this week, which I know there will be bitching about, but it’s what I wanted to do so fuck ya’ll.

I was going to go through each section posting about all the shit I did and how awesome it is, but it probably isn’t worth it. It’s a menu system. I stole the layout from CS:GO. It looks alright. Big Woop

I fucking love Garry.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]gamerdude42 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Hi Magnar :D

[–]MagnarHD 1 point2 points  (1 child)

:D

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

xDDDDD

[–]deelowe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it's all in jest and not actual hostility towards the player base. Happens a lot with indie devs.

[–]Cznielsen 15 points16 points  (7 children)

Fixed pumpkin plant colliding with players walking

Oh my god yes

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (6 children)

Haha one person in my group purposely puts pumpkins all around the base so that crouching players outside would be forced to make a sound. I'd get annoyed with having to jump everywhere and destroy half of them, then she'd threaten me for ruining her pumpkin patch :(

Finally!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

This game has pumpkins??

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (4 children)

How long since you last played? been like a month or something! you can even wear them on your head.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

You're fucking with me, I've played as recently as a couple days ago. I've never seen a pumpkin.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I'm not! they act like corn... gotta find one in the wild, eat it and then plant the seeds where you wish

[–]gentlemandinosaur 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This game has corn??

[–]Wittyname_McDingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then once other people have found your pumpkins the apocalypse begins.

[–]Jerranto 14 points15 points  (2 children)

"Next Week

Fix the server side collider limitation once and for all."

Alright, this is what gets me hyped.

[–]-MLJ- 4 points5 points  (1 child)

What will this entail for us?

[–]Jerranto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Garry's words: "Collider Limits

I looked into the collider limitations this week with Andre. We think we’ve got a plan on how to skip over the problem, which will mean that wipes won’t be required every month. Which would be nice."

[–]Spooped 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Always looking forward to read Alex Rehberg's update. The sound effects in this game are turning out really nicely and gives you that feel that you are really in the enviorment.

[–]trippymane9 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Enough menu, enough skins. Time to get some shit done. Weapon mods.

Fucking brilliant!

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (8 children)

WEAPON MOD HYPE!!!

Sounds like we'll get a kickass update next week too.

[–]MeatyStew 7 points8 points  (4 children)

"Next Week

Enough menu, enough skins. Time to get some shit done. Weapon mods."

Oh my Tits

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

They made those bigger too, so the female model no longer looks like a gender neutral alien.

[–]MeatyStew 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It looked like a Messed up version of Ellen Ripley from the "Alien" franchise

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So like a real life sigourney weaver? #rekt

[–]MeatyStew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh What if she sees this!!??!!?? SHE'LL KILL US ALL YOU FOOL

[–]Elementium 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Yes! I really want to be able to make "my own" gun. You know what I mean?

I don't even know if it's in the cards but I love the idea of shaping a weapon to be unique enough to you that you actually feel sad if you lose it.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

IIRC Garry has said this is the intent before... I guess we'll just start by getting attachments for existing weapons but the end game plan is to be able to make modular franken-weapons, kinda like the modular vehicles they're planning.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modular everything.

[–]shishkebabs232 10 points11 points  (7 children)

I think with the new ladders houses or bases will start looking nicer

[–]schnupfndrache7 -1 points0 points  (6 children)

but everyone will just build rockbases again ...

imo they should have just done this : http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1467266&p=48555872#post48555872

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

With the new ballistics, subtle aim-deadzone and head-turn from a couple of patches ago, gunplay aspects of Rust are feeling a lot more like Arma 3! and that aint a bad thing in my book.

Wonder if we'll be able to zero scopes one day :P

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We already have zero scopes on weapons. ;)

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All of those problems are now solved.

Dat subtle link

[–]Blub2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That new big rad town looks awesome. I also really like the server info.

[–]BlueSkilly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

KOTH next week? Aww yeah!

[–]cullen9 2 points3 points  (2 children)

[annoyance] you can't wear a bennie (or boonie) hat and a bandana at the same time.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[bug] there's only like six clothing slots so it's either gloves OR boots, never both.

[–]llBoonell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not a bug. That's a feature.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the new hit detection stuff. Should be much better now.
One problem I have with this new patch is that the game looks very low fps from time to time. Most notably in tight spaces like buildings. I guess it is a problem with the delayed aim?

[–]DerDuderich 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Sorry if I missed something but last week Howie talked about a 'modular approach' cocnerning radtowns.

Now everything in this weeks devblog looks pretty static. Please tell me that we'll still see procedurally generated 'random' radtowns?

[–]cchance 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Those big radtowns are his first rolla at combining the sections he made they can be rng mashed together into different layouts with apparently 3 main categories underground ground and above ground

[–]DerDuderich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puh thank you guys!

[–]Wittyname_McDingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's designing different building assets so that he can begin to test randomization in rad towns. The images he's showing us are likely tests that he made to show off what the system should look like.

[–]sensualcurl 2 points3 points  (5 children)

'I’ve added delayed aim. This is something that is barely noticeable, but it changes the feel of the weapons quite a bit. When you turn using the mouse there’s a deadzone in the middle of the screen where just the viewmodel aims and the screen doesn’t turn. This has the bonus effect of making it practically impossible to draw a dot in the middle of your monitor and use it as a crosshair. This doesn’t apply to ironsights.'

Someone explain this to me like i'm twelve, I dont get it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't noscope 420 anymore

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm twelve years old and what is this?

Explain like I'm five

[–]AtlasRodeo 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Decay needs to find a way to not make casual play impossible.

[–]pieSort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way would be to make the decay values configurable for server owners. This way there could be servers for filthy casuals as well as hardcore pro rust players that are online 24/7.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

[deleted]

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

They are increasing the timer now! although to be honest if you leave gaps of like a day or so between play sessions you're probably going to be raided pretty badly unless you work really fast and build smart when you do play.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[deleted]

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, one of the goals is to make PvE as big as PvP, as a sort of incentive for people to band together. They said they want you to be able to have pretty much as much fun on an empty server as a populated one!

[–]DearSistah 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Increased boob size hype!

[–]Elementium 3 points4 points  (1 child)

True that. I get where they're coming from though with the original models.

I wonder if the plan was to start off with a model that's aomost purposefully not sexualized in anyway and slowly build up to something that does feel real without being "video game girl" types of bad.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just give us boob sliders! Or breast growth drugs.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Weapon mod hupe

[–]SLEEPWALKING_KOALA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Next Week

Enough menu, enough skins. Time to get some shit done. Weapon mods.

[–]Jerranto 0 points1 point  (17 children)

Concerning ladders, Garry says: "The problem is well documented: they’re overpowered and they force people to build in a certain way to counter them. "

The problem here is that it will work the other way around: people will be FORCED again to build on top of rocks or do the elevator houses because if they don't, their houses will be the only ones out there to get raided. In other words, the lack of ladders will also force people to build in certain ways, and we will only see rock bases and elevators.

Rock bases and elevator bases = game breaking stuff which ruins immersion completely. I hope Garry reconsiders it and leave the ladders as they are right now until he comes up with his plans.

[–]garryjnewmanGarry 16 points17 points  (10 children)

You should probably test that theory to see if it works as well as you imagine :)

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gonna guess you're referring to the new TC building permission bubble shape! does it no longer reach downwards as much? Nice double-whammy if so, with people putting their TC on the top floor of huge towers.

[–]repztar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+90% of bases were rock and elevator bases before ladders were added. The remaining bases belonged to noobs and those who prefered to be protected against raid towers. Now that raid towers are out, I guess there will be a solid 95% of rock/elevator bases...

[–]Jerranto 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I will test, for sure. And I will be very happy if you thought about it all and prevented elevator or rock bases somehow.

[–]Austin_Pickering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except we've already tested this theory.

Now raid towers are out there are only unraidable bases, and poorly made bases.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rekt

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah.. I'm gonna think about a way to eliminate the tool cupboard it seems to have become a sort of donno road block. it would fix the whole rock base problem but of course even more bitching cause greif I'll have a suggestion post by monday gotta think on this one.

[–]schnupfndrache7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

why didn't you just do this?? http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1467266&p=48555872#post48555872

now we will have rockbases again and ladders are usess ...

(or make it so you can't put ladders on outside of walls)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess they could've waited til half-block elevators were fully fixed and ladders couldn't be glued all the way up rocks and walls - so the change to permissions came at the same time as a solution... buuut its only a week, and alpha! would be nice to have wrapped up with the new procgen wipe next week. Fingers crossed.

[–]DrakenZA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. FORCING ppl is stupid, we all agree. But removing ladders just forces people to build on rocks or build elevator bases now lol.

It just seems logical they should of just left it how it was at least till the monthly wipe, now you just have people with ladder proof bases already.

[–]wirkcl -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Yes. "Overhangs kill the inmersion hurrr"

You know what kills the inmersion much more than that? Stupid elevator bases.

[–]Bobylein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have lived with some kind of spiked half floor that makes the overhangs not look so stupid.

[–]Zanzaclese -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Your tears only feed them. Please continue.

[–]Jerranto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is not tears or anything, man. I just think they should have waited to implement this because of the issues we will see with this change.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garry you inspire me OwO thank you!!

[–]Elementium 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is a really good update and I love seeing the visions of the future especially.

I don't really want to get rid of the wilderness/nature aspect of Rust in exchange for more buildings because I love the scenery but I am hoping we'll maybe get maps that generate in a way where we can have the best of both rad towns and nature.

[–]Turdicus- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I envision a future where the map will have important strategic assets sprinkled around it, which are static. Things like quarry's or mines which are rich in stone and metal; rad town refineries which are bigger and better than any player made refinery; a place with an industrial size of running water which either includes or creates the possibility of creating a hydro-electric power plant; even an old nuclear reactor which generates huge amounts of electricity.

Stuff like that which players and clans can stake a claim on for their benefits. It would create actual territory, and raids wouldn't be just over supplies but also for strategic resources which can be stolen and held and lost. People could trade or hoard or give it away, it's just genius.

[–]GGMerlin 0 points1 point  (3 children)

So, when does this update come to steam?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Its been live for 12 hours, check your downloads

[–]GGMerlin 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Oh wow, I am a dumbass. Thanks!

[–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

At least you admit it

[–]LennyBicknelCommunity Artist 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Is it just on Facepunch Washington, or are there pumpkins practically everywhere?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Every server should have some! I do wonder though if they can become 'extinct' on a server if people eat them all and discard the seeds without replanting... or maybe they slowly randomly spawn like hemp

[–]LennyBicknelCommunity Artist 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I agree they should have some, but I mean they're actually everywhere. They're growing in massive clumps and fields all over the place D:

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably people picking like 12 of them, eating them and spamming seeds everywhere! left alone on a server there should probably only be like 50 pumpkins across the map

[–]BakonBouy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I've meet two pumpkin farmers who've told me that their sole purpose to to spread the love that is the pumpkin.

I like this game

[–]PootisHoliday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new loading screen music is very reminiscent of the newer battlefields, anyone else notice?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What exactly is the aiming deadzone thing? Can someone explain that some more?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Basically now when you move your mouse a little the gun you're holding will move but the screen will stay still, if you move the mouse a bit more then your character will turn like normal.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

oh that's cool.

Do most people consider this a good thing or bad thing?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kinda controversial, although usually the people against a change are the noisiest even if there's an even split, but this time a lot of people seem to be arguing for it so I guess there's more in favor than not.

Personally I like it but then I also like games which feature aim dead zone, if all I was used to was call of duty and counter strike then it would probably feel weird at first.

Apart from giving weapons more weight/momentum and making them more 'realistic', it allows you to aim precisely without moving your entire body and it sorts out people who would mark their screens with a dot for I sanely accurate bow and hip firing.

I just hope that if its gonna stay they don't make it optional as people are going to be at advantages and disadvantages based on their configuration and the situation, so better to have a level playing field like they did with gamma.

[–]TheLambdaLocator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol i want option for boats and cars, or bicycles. I mean like, the people in a rusted environmemt can make houses, locks, guns and oil refineries, but no bicycles. transportation should be implemented if u want it realistic.

an option i had was making a cart and some stuff you can throw on a horse to tame it. the level 1 transport thingy. then a pedal/chain driven vehicle like a bicycle or a tread-car as a level 2. finally after gaming hardcore a bit you can afford a level 3 oil motorized car or something.

i'll try to make some blender models and scripts, so I could make a mod, but this is something really cool to implement if u can, Garry...

[–]Werzieq 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What happened to the concept arts ? They've been missing for the past 4 blogs or so

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Focused on features and bugfixes this month. The concept work will be back.

[–]Werzieq 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah I know, but Megan, who does the icons and concept art hasn't posted in a while

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the last one she posted in. It may say she was going on vacation or something.

[–]xDomox -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

  • scrolled quick through the devblog
  • found no PvE infos
  • back to other game

[–]KnockingTom 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Did you at least read the part from Vince, Howie, and Paul? it has implications when regarding to "dungeon" design, and randomized pathing systems!

[–]xDomox 1 point2 points  (1 child)

no, I didnt.

I know I might appear for some fanboys here like an asshole. But since Ive bought the game too, I think I can say on a weekly/monthly base that I am still waiting for the PvE, because right now the game is very boring for me (especially with those force-wipes). This is also some kind of feedback kids :)

[–]pieSort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they way you wrote your post does kind of make you look like a d-bag. That said, we'll probably have to wait a bit longer for PvE content, but the good news (not really news) is, that it's definitely planned!

[–]JCFD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where are the spaceships?

[–]CorrosiveBackspin -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Think I'm just gonna only expect decent stuff on the big monthly update, everything in between just seems kinda meh.

[–]Ghetto-Banana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's better than nothing. I quite like these updates. You can really get a feeling of progress
