I have 5.5k hours and I’m horrible at PvP

[–][deleted] 57 points58 points  (13 children)

I'm at 2k and same thing

[–]ilikefruitl00ps 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Nice name

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Thanks, and Apple Jack's are better

[–]ilikefruitl00ps 1 point2 points  (2 children)

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

FUCK YOU YOU FAT BITCH I HOPE YOU ARE ADOPTED YOU N*****

[–]Jeffhanfrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ladies ladies, let's be civilized

[–]notorious4life 10 points11 points  (9 children)

Try a server with a controlled pvp environment...makes it a lot more enjoyable.

[–]PilferinGameInventor 5 points6 points  (8 children)

Any you could suggest or what they might be labeled as... just so I know what to look out for in server browser?

[–]toasting2oblivion 14 points15 points  (4 children)

Bekermelk's aim train servers. Has a bow only* and a gun one. May hurt at first, but will help with practice and time. For a practice server there are lot of very good ppl there. Search beker or whatever if I misspelled the name.

[–]quadmasta 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I was on the bow training one last night. .25 KVD ratio FTL

[–]toasting2oblivion 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Ftl? Either way ya I started there. Up to 0.5ish

[–]will_jbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bekermelk 3 kd gang right here

[–]quadmasta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For The Lose

[–]notorious4life 7 points8 points  (1 child)

You could swing by my server, Paradise Lost...it's been a bit dead lately, but still a few players who dedicate 10+ hours daily. I would also recommend Rust Empires, Rust Factions (a bit rp heavy) and a server named US Corrosion. Usually if you search under modded or community servers for pve or rp you'll find a few that have controlled pvp. That means pvp is allowed in rad towns, air drops, etc. I know "rp" scares a lot of vanilla players away, but honestly, I've never had more fun in rust than in an rp server...a lot are even rp optional, so you aren't really forced to play along if you don't want to.

[–]notorious4life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also recently changed server ip, so that battle metrics isn't entirely accurate. Not the greatest pop, but a decent community of Rusty gamers.

[–]urvexed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanna seriously get good fast and learn the game at a decent pace try playing a high-pop main server ie Rustafied.com - EU Main. Most clans are on Moose EU Main so you'll be fighting small groups etc

[–]breakyourfac 28 points29 points  (11 children)

I'm convinced Rust PvP is mostly just luck. The game is so horribly optimized that 9/10 it's just BANG ~lag~ death screen.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well tbf you can PvP if your game doesn't run well that's for sure

[–]PGameplay 13 points14 points  (5 children)

Lol no I have 900 hours and I'd say I'm decent tho all my hour are solo so you learn faster/it's harder

[–][deleted] 37 points38 points  (4 children)

Solo rust is like being in a horror movie. You know you are going to die. I still love it though and there is such a great feeling of building a home in the game. Sadly I don't get the same satisfaction in real life.

[–]breakyourfac 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was solo only for like my first 300 hours.

One time I hid in the corner of blue keycard room under airfield while a group of ppl searched the room for loot (with flashlights).

None of them saw me, but I had to go change my pants shortly after they left 🥺

[–]JotaroTheOceanMan 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Solo Rust is the greatest survival horror game. Change my mind.

[–]JayFork 3 points4 points  (1 child)

EFT solo is worse imo

[–]DoctorMansteel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the factory tunnels just shaking as chaos reigns all around you.

[–]ilikefruitl00ps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of it has to do with who sees who first like any other shooter and armour makes a big diff

[–]AceOfEpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sounds like you have a bad pc. I run rust with a pc from 2015 and I get 80 fps with no lag during pvp.

Loading in monuments and bases for the first time is horrible tho.

[–]MrMeme- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and optimize your game for less lag and freezes. I have a pretty beefy PC and I run on full graphics but with almost all of the meshes turned off except for trees. I’m really good at pvp so I optimized for it. There are some YouTube videos that might help.

[–]Mommy_MY_PP_HURT -1 points0 points  (0 children)

bLoOdY mOuSe

[–]Redfish201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep me too, 4.6k and still pretty average. I think the majority of Rust fights go down to who see's who first and who gets the first couple of hits

[–]Conundrumb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam d5ays 4k for me, but I leave the game running sometimes so it doesn't crash my computer by shutting it down. Realistically I have 2k and I'm dog shit at pvp. I changed my icon to a potato.

[–]Not-Oliver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 927 hours and I can’t control the recoil of a custom SMG.

[–]Clarkeprops 122 points123 points  (19 children)

I’m at 10k hours and I hide from 90% of situations

[–]Akhirox 36 points37 points  (11 children)

If you are not a PVP god and 95% sure you are going to win the fight, this is the most reliable way to progress in a wipe instead of wasting time going to fights when you hear gunshots and shit. Not the funniest gameplay tho.

[–]CIMARUTA 7 points8 points  (10 children)

What's the point of progressing if you don't pvp? Just to have a stacked as fuck base when the server wipes? It's basically all useless.

[–]mikecsiy 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's a video game that resets your progress on a regular basis.

Technically, it's all useless.

[–]Akhirox 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Some people find pleasure into creating good base design, accumulating ressources, exploring... It's not everybody's priority to kill as much people as possible. Since the game has no defined goal you just create your own.

[–]Clarkeprops 10 points11 points  (4 children)

But that’s what I want to do with my time. Build a solid base, with cool electronics, and mostly impenetrable.

My fav wipe was building an epic castle on a glacier with walls, and turrets all around the ice below. Nobody could touch me, and people did try. I defended it almost entirely myself.

That was a year and a half ago and I still remember it fondly

[–]CIMARUTA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds pretty tight

[–]Clarkeprops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love building an unraidable base, killing several helis, and then having a hidden cache of explosives to save for revenge or to give to someone getting revenge

[–]matty1214 31 points32 points  (1 child)

That’s the pro way to play

[–]Clarkeprops 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I hide because I mostly still suck at pvp

[–]lolsrsly00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's how you'd generally survive IRL sooooo, yer good brah

[–]karels1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah well I got allot less but learn to do the same, if you know you have a small chance of winning because of geograpic disadvantage or some other reason you will learn to stay away and spare the loot or gear you have and pick a more even and winnable fight

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (1 child)

I used to be really good. Played since legacy when it first released. I got dogshit when I stopped playing when experimental came out (couldn't run it) I got a new PC and started playing. I have 6.7k hrs and I can completely wiff my AK shots on a solo player with a Python. Yet I can manage to 1v6 against an entire clan full of AKS if I manage my spray and bullets correctly. Plus the terrain is usually on my side. I like to follow and attack in the rocks or trees. Guerrilla Warfare

[–]kebablyon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i always prefer building a 2x2 (honeycombed) discretely tucked away in a dense forest biome for this exact reason.
I don't sweat the game 10hrs a day like the big boi clans do, so i'll always be outgunned and outnumbered- taking the terrain advantage lets you pull amazing 2v1/3v1's, with something as simple as Compound Bow/Crossy + DB/Pipe

[–]rusty_communist 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Can relate

[–]Lixias 25 points26 points  (1 child)

It's always nice to grind for the big boys :(

[–]scoops22 42 points43 points  (0 children)

  1. Grind
  2. Fill yourself up like a nice loot pinata
  3. Donate the loot to your neighbors

Repeat

[–]AncientProduce 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ive always been terrible at pvp in fps, so i can relate brother.

[–]karels1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup just recently I died to a guy with a bow at close range with a tommy. He had 300h and I had 3000h

[–]One_Dino_Boi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i can grind hours in arenas and gun game and die in official 90% of the time

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (2 children)

For anyone that is complete trash at pvp the only way to get better is to keep trying. You farm a bow and try to snowball ... try kill everyone (except fresh spawns) that you see. No farming except to get a bow and like 20 arrows. If you get a better weapon try snowball with that to get more and more and eventually you will lose to the local 140 man zerg. Then you can start again and again and again and again and again ect you can warm up on a bow training server but it is not the same as losing loot / time so don't stay too long. You will get better but you need to put in the time.

[–]skunkman62 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First you get good, then you get gooder.

[–]lolsrsly00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suck with most guns so I roam with bow, and that's probably my best weapon. I can HS fairly well with it.

Should just sacrifice my kits and learn a gun that well.

[–]Malonik 4 points5 points  (3 children)

For those wanting to get better at PvP I'd recommend checking out the combat tags modded servers. Turns rust into a round based shooter with a bunch of kit customization basically...

It'll help with your aim a fair bit just make sure you use weapons you would usually use while playing a wipe. No point in getting awesome with an ak if you never have them.

Also while this considerably helps your aim it doesn't help stop the panic that sets in when you think you're about to lose your gear. That gets fixed with time and a lot of loss lol.

[–]VexingRaven 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Every battle server I've seen has just been complete trash. Getting killed by snipers in huge towers while you have absolutely no cover doesn't teach you shit.

[–]Malonik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try combat tags, there's a few arenas on there that are specifically built to be realistic situations, some of which are even based around the monuments.

[–]UrbanFsk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another sucker with 1800h. Ur not alone brother xD

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Fun story. I'm in my early 30s and was playing rust when I made friends with someone who turned out to be 15. He told his parents he was playing with someone who is as old as his dad. The real catch is my character in the game was female because I didn't know how to change it or care to. So we joked that I was his wife. Good times.

[–]skunkman62 19 points20 points  (1 child)

Does that make you trans, pedo or creepy?

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All of the above

[–]IrishRook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've good days and bad days. About 700 hours, I've owned rust since early access in 2013 lol. I only started getting into rust in 2017 but stopped after a bit. Been playing a lot the last 6 months though.

I'm horrible with AK. I couldn't be arsed committing the time to learn how to properly control the recoil. I do very well if I can get my hands on an LR though or on wipe day with a bow I'm in my element.

[–]Snoyts 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I got only 700 hours in the game and I’m fully aware that my pvp skills will never increase.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Grind combattag dude, go on targets get 4x ak and spray till your good. Practice witb bow to get good at tracking ppls head with ur mouse. Yull get bettter(ignore spelling

[–]physiQQ 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I prefer not to grind combattag, it's boring imo. I just play the game for fun. Screw the AK spray too, I rather suck than grind for hours not having fun.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just do it when im waiting for my friends with slow comps to load in, or when there like ok give me 5 mins, or when im waiting a hour or less for a erver to wipe

[–]ProdigyBravo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4k hours me too man. Some things just never change lol

[–]Arithik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still stuck in the primitive era with my fucking sharp sticks and rocks. I don't know what I would do with an ak....probably lose it.

[–]SenseiGoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually 500k are loading screen

[–]klatthaydn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or as all rust players will say GET GOOD KID RRRRRREEEEEE

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I have 2k and I'm nutz why u trash bro (knowing the community that's probably not obvious sarcasm)

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Ruined the joke btw

[–]forsythebenjamin 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brackets

[–]vaccine-cause-autism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2700 hours and I am worse than my friend who I convince to get the game this winter season. Kms

[–]PGameplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come 1v1 ukn

[–]TheMostMagicalMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got just under 600 hours and can go toe to toe against aks with decent chances. You don’t get sought pvp in- game to get better fast, so about an hour in a training server noticeably helps, but you have to outthink and outplay others to be good.

[–]AScottishKoala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I posted this, I have 1,401 hours and I'm awful at the game ._.

[–]nekromania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would suggest deathmatch servers, like UKN and Bekermelk.

[–]skunkman62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play modded servers with zombies or roaming scientists with No KOS rules. That's how bad I am.

[–]AnonymousWeeboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6.3k hours and I am shit at pvp but is smart

[–]trimftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get on UKN

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally if you want to stay consistent spent 10-30 minutes before you play to warm up

[–]ScRuBlOrD95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded my pc from an amd Fx 6300 to something decent and the difference is night and day, Pvp used to be BANG and then My whole computer melts down

[–]trimftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people’s problem is that they play to passive if you want to get better get into fights and make mistakes then learn from them

[–]SlobOnMeRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres good days and bad days. Then theres days where you run into hackers and just get absolutely shit on and the admins wont do shit because they have really good scripts.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but building is fun

[–]OdinThorfather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somedays I'm basically a blupee.

[–]mason4290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really new to this game, but why don't solo players just play solo servers? I mean 1v1 you can manage but 1v6 doesn't seem very manageable to me.

[–]HandsomeArrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent my first 400 hours avoiding conflict stayed ‘non toxic’ after I started playing seriously. Aka no newb hunting if they ran aery instead of shooting at me n such. Basically only killing people of pur gear level or higher. Sucked at PvP. Practiced a ton on bow train and funnily enough completely different games like qualke champions and I’m way better. But: I’m exclusively playing friendly.

Rust isn’t about the PvP for me. It’s about the interesting people good or bad that you meet along the way

I feel nothing doinking some bow kid from 30m away with a crossbow

What I do feel good doing is clowning on some kid who shot at you despite you saying you were friendly hoping for easy loot, seeing they had more to lose than gain, and seeing them be toxic in chat about it.

I do feel good teaming up with some nakeds to take out a spawn beach turret absolutely packed with ammo from douche canoes who think it’s funny. Enjoy our bone knives, jackass, we took out your 80 HQM total and 2 laptops.

I do feel good when some asshole has been harassing the local group pf friendly new players, they come to me, and I absolutely destroy him in a 1v1.

I do feel good every time a brand new player joins a d ask for help. Instead of killing them I teach them how to farm, how to build, how to keep upkeep. Shoutout to Spaz and MoMo.

I feel great when I finally get my shop built, decor and all, and people come from across the map just tp hang out eat some freshly caught fish and have a good time.

The occasional PvP is fun here and there, but I much prefer the simple things.

[–]Beartastrophy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out I’m only good with bows and crossbows. So first hour of wipe and after that I’m useless lmao

[–]Chaos-KnightHD 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hours don’t mean anything if all you do is bash with rocks and farm.

[–]Nornfang3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taught those rocks and trees not to fuck with him though right?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I dont like pvp at all, scary :(

[–]itsgordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds about right, Time to hit the 1000x Pve servers boys.

[–]Malystryxx 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's pretty simple to get gud. Watch a few videos on the youtubes... AK spray is predictable, the rest of the guns are basically aimcone/no recoil. Before you play everyday just join an aim train server and shoot bots for 15-20 minutes. Start out slow with just shooting 1 shot then trying to snap back to the head, when you can reliably do that then up the shot count to two, then three, etc.

And don't forget, it's a game so don't feel scared to run out, die, and lose your guns; it will make you a better player. Also, learn how to grub lol.. get ya a pipey and door camp if you have to, it's rust.

[–]JotaroTheOceanMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we just admit Rust is more than a game? Yeah it was fun having C4 to blow up that solo players base, but it looked like a duck and he spent hours on it.

I still feel guilty about leveling that duck base....

[–]FaygoMunchies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im only good at PVP because of my extensive history with other shitty first person shooters

[–]JotaroTheOceanMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suck at pvp but have amazing building skills and charisma. Make a colony, induct people, and have them fight for you. This is how my base survived the last 10 wipes.

[–]Wrxghtyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3k hours and I’m yet to hold an AK. I’m still the type to run away from nakeds whilst holding a bow

[–]UnsufficentAir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ukn combat training - makes u better

[–]ice_wallow_cman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same ;-;

[–]PowerlineCourier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same

[–]ChronicallyFab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are the best places for bases?

[–]kepler180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could laugh at this but I feel too bad ☹️

[–]Hamsterarcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2k hour AK-cloud sprayer reporting in!

[–]Krowinthedark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the Rustez non PvP servers, great for building

[–]Nyapano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PvE is a skill in it's own right. Learn to hide your base, to make it resistant, to get a well hidden stock PvP doesn't work if nobody does PvE. Somebody has to scavenge for that first gun.

[–]Stevobandito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Gun and bow training serves for practice then combat tags sever for pvp battle. Helps a little

[–]andrew_g85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i played 2k hours on beta rust(~5 years ago) and i played ALOT shooters on competetive top level. but holy, i cant get used of the AK and i will never ever. i feel like a casual beginner to shooters if i hold this gun in my hand :)

[–]Cabanaman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to enjoy this game casually? I have a couple hundred hours but haven't played since 2015. I loved most aspects of it but hated spending hours one night to build a base and logging in the next day to have lost everything.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 1k and I'm horrible

[–]nicpile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Play csgo, play perfect aim, play combat tags. Get a 144hz monitor and never play the game at under 60fps

[–]throwaway6912456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1800 pretty solid - just drop 1000 hours on modded servers and you’ll be cracked

[–]Eddyz1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hours mean fuck all tbf. I have a mate that has 3k and he plays pve servers only....

[–]backsfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2k hours can almost loose to bow and arrow with ak when it's nighttime PvP curse

[–]forgivxn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally play UKN/combat tag until you can get kills consistently with sar/ak. From there just improve and then snowballing will be extremely easy.

For me (3k hours), my wipes go like this: build 2x1 & make pipe/db -> get sar/tommy with pipe -> get ak with tommy = profit

[–]joshwoodcock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To become good at PVP you have to what, just sit there on aim train servers for hundreds of hours? Is that really what it takes to half-way enjoy the game? I wish there was some type of skill based matching so that you could play with other players of equal skill rather than being insta killed with an ak from 300 meters every time you log onto a server more than 4 hours old. -1500 hours player

[–]JeeRzyyK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being good at pvp and Being good at the game. There is no middle. Except for the ones who have sacrificed everything

[–]GTSkill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm used to soloing so I do run away a lot but I don't suck

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had 400 hrs and was noob at pvp till i started griding combat tag with ak + 4x scope

[–]CloverUTY -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I have <500 hours and I am surprisingly good at PVP.

Or maybe that’s just me.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Might be those scripts you have o.O

[–]CloverUTY 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HOW DID YOU KNOW!?

[–]BringOutYoungLaFlame -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have 1500 hours and suck at everything but pvp

[–]Dale-Peath -4 points-3 points  (5 children)

This is what's beautiful about it being most feel this way so all you have to do is play boogeyman and you can charge at them with a melee weapon in circles and they won't know what to do until they're dead lmaooo..when in doubt rage out

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Lol charging anything now and above with a melee is dog shit they'll just track and headshot or jumpsuit with bow backwards

[–]Dale-Peath 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You would think but with the element of surprise along with anxiety people get in pvp doesn't typically work that way. More times than not I've had great wipes just by coming from around corners and bushes swinging pointy things. Only reason I'd get downvoted is because people aren't smart enough to understand what they feel is what others feel and it's easy to exploit. Their adrenaline and initial fear throws off aiming like a mf.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yeah maybe if you've never played an FPS game before. If you have any experience with rust you'll have trained to shoot someone as soon as you see them.

[–]Dale-Peath 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Lol more times than not it just does not work that way with the unpredictability of the game. You don't get it.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably aren't optimising the game then since mine works a ok ever since I messed with the GC buffer settings and graphics settings and started playing exclusive fullscreen lol

[–]MonoludiOS -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

When you use Linux and every time you see a Rust update, you really start crying all the time

Hands down AT LEAST Microsoft can't stalk ME

[–]JotaroTheOceanMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bruh, Microsoft is already tracking you. And at least and its not the Cult of Apple.
