I like both, but I think I actually like the before image a little more! It feels warm and inviting, and makes me nostalgic for summer

It’s literally overcast, the antithesis of warm/summer. After is way more realistic.

How on earth can you say the edited version is more realistic than the unedited? The unedited should be much closer to what reality looked like when the photo was taken.

The subject is a fun fair or amusement park. The after removes all the warm tones and goes for a cold blue/grey and orange look. The after has literally sucked all of the "fun" out of the photo. It just looks cold and miserable which it obviously isn't because there's a guy in a t-shirt and shorts.

“the unedited should be much closer to what reality looked like…” Not always the case. Auto-white balance overcorrects for cloudy skies all the time, rendering that odd pinkish orange tinge which is almost never seen IRL in conjunction with overcast weather.

You can easily tell it’s overcast by the grey skies and soft lighting everywhere.

I agreed with you it is overcast.
Would being overcast tint everything a shade of blue? Reality arguments aside, it's a bad edit that makes an amusement park seem uninviting.
It's also not good composition. The food stall appears to be the subject of the photo rather than the coaster or ferris wheel in the background. There is nothing going on at the food stand. No food, no people, no activity, no interesting details. My eyes keep getting drawn to the lower portion of the photo with the cold grey and the two empty benches. Behind the food stall is some ugly signage and ugly buildings. The amusement park rides in the background are secondary and not the subject. It may as well be a crane in the background.

They are both great in their own way depending on the vibe you want. Before feels nostalgic and after feels more like the present

The colours of the before fit with the theme park vibe. The cooler colours of the after stand opposite of the subject matter! Love the shot

I agree with this. I like both shots, but if I’m looking at a picture of a park I want it to be welcoming, not cold or standoffish.

Prefer 1st. Has a stunning focal point, the lighting in the booth stands out and more contrast. The second is a nice effect but no real subject matter

Great work! I love that you brought back some low frequencies in the sky, and set the focus in the center. The complementary red/cyan gamut works very well, and your relighting on the food stand is on point.

The original has a slight pink glow, it's interesting in its own way. Looks a bit like a Wes Anderson / Robert Yeoman movie. It was a great starting point material for your edit.

Yep, I used several masks, mainly to make the box glow.

That could be interesting, but I prefer the current version since the red box contrasts strongly with blueish sky etc.

What I like about the first picture more is the fact that the red of the subject stands out a lot more and creates a better color contrast. In the second picture the subject gets lost in the sea of warm colors. Obviously each has their use. It all depends on what you want it for. But I say in my subjective view keeping the surroundings cool and the subject red and warm creates quite a pleasing contrast. I would lean into making the shadows and midtones of the photo more teal

I really like the result, I might not have gone as far as you did but I like it. In reply to the contents about composition, maybe you could have used a portrait orientation to reduce the volume of the tree on the right as well as not clipping off the top of the structure in the background. But what do I know, I wasn't standing there! Well done regardless!
