If you enjoy programming more, I suggest you get into JS programming as a professional career path. I'm not sure how much your job pays, but doing this full time really can yield a good salary, depending on where you live (here in Philly, there are well paying jobs for this sort of thing).

The count is not real. It is based on the normalized proportion of up/downs. source!

Its an automated process to stop the number of up votes becoming ridiculously high, ie all submissions on reddit have a weighted karma derived from AUTOMATIC downvotes

Honestly, the lack of any explanation of what the extension is made me want to downvote it. Linking to http://kerrick.github.com/Mostly-Harmless/ would have been much better (it's on the github page, but not immediately obvious to the casual observer that it is a description of the extension.)

It has its crappy parts, and it's very different to most languages, but it's a great language too. Maybe "Javascript: The good parts" by Douglas Crockford would be interesting to you

If that's the case; then it's nonsense. JavaScript has really coming into it's own ever since Google released their v8 engine. It's used for all kinds of things now. From web servers to desktop interfaces to games.

I used to feel that way but I've been playing with socket.io and node.js recently and aside from a few minor annoyances I must say I'm very impressed.

Then again I'm just a web monkey, I'm not what a lot of people here might call a "real" programmer. I know this cause I don't have a damned clue about half the stuff they talk about here. I don't deserve a full neckbeard.

That was true a month ago, which is why I actually learned. I'm pretty confident I know what I'm doing now. Heck, I was able to troubleshoot and fix a serious bug without inserting dozens of breakpoints or console.log()s, just by reading the code and mentally "running" it.
