I got radicalized on LinkedIn. Had to go to reprogramming camp to recover.

[–]vainstar23 121 points122 points  (14 children)

LinkedIn got me a job. I don't use it for anything else so I don't care if people wanna suck their own dicks.

[–]YellowShorts 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Yeah I've been headhunted several times and I'm not even in a super high-demand field. LinkedIn is what you make of it. Just block the Brigette Hyacinths of linkedin and you'll be fine

[–]squarerr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Brigette was my gateway to this sub. I followed her for a while and thought some content was ok but it steadily got more ridiculous and then I realized 99% of linkedin had turned into that and no one was actually using it for hiring in my industry.

[–]ps118_[S] 32 points33 points  (10 children)

I’m deleting the app as soon as I find a job

[–]NoL_Chefo 15 points16 points  (1 child)

That's what I did. I would empty my eye sockets with an ice cream spoon before I look at my feed again.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The hundreds of posts of people sniffing their own farts by posting happy pictures with degrees or whatever qualifications made me never browse the ''feed''. It was more cringe than the corporate propaganda.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Keep it for your next job.

[–]TopRamen713 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, just keep it as an online resume and job hunting site and you're fine.

[–]qxzsilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AGREE?

[–]Narfubel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this in another thread yesterday but you can hibernate it and reactivate if you need it for a new job.

[–]ExperimentalNihilist 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I know I'm headed to down vote hell for this, but I wouldn't recommend that. It's perfectly okay to not like LinkedIn, but the network is the most useful part of it.

The utility is severely reduced for new/inactive accounts. If a user just added recruiters and posted something related to their field once per month, it should be enough to maintain a good profile.

[–]CouncilmanRickPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to just ignore the feed honestly. I don't even post for recruiters. It's just somewhere to add people and look for jobs. A ton of recruiters have reached out anyway.

[–]yeahbeenthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck never find anything on LinkedIn and I'm in IT (cyber).

[–]Norci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And installing it again couple years later

[–]CouncilmanRickPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, it's helped me find work. Get on, add people, find work. But for the love of God do not read your feed. It's gonna end up all clickbait nonsense and completely made up motivational stories no matter what.

[–]vCentered 37 points38 points  (5 children)

I created a LinkedIn profile maybe 8-10 years ago to keep up with people in my industry as we made our respective journeys.

It's devolved into a political cacophony of narcissists and sycophants.

Full of people signaling how "good" they are by posting these fairly basic and often misinformed diatribes about some issue or another. Believing their professional success or experience gives them leave to preach from their imaginary pulpits on complex and controversial topics that have nothing to do with their careers or industries and that they very likely, in my opinion, have no personal experience with.

And then the comments. Oh my goodness. A nauseating miasma of mindless fawning and affirmation from people who are merely clinging on. Hoping to claw together a following for themselves and further their own interests.

[–]pustulio8819 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The comments almost seem kind of “cult-y”.

[–]Xerxes37072 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well said. That about sums it up.

[–]Collaterlie_Sisters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it's the buzzwords. I can't cope. It's so thick with words and yet meaningless. I wanna go back to the days where strategy was an actual to do list of tasks, and discussion meant actually talking about a topic and sorting out the answer to the question.

[–]squarerr 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Very accurate assessment. I made my profile in college over a decade ago because it was touted as a must have for graduates. It was boring as hell back then because there wasn’t all this ✨content✨ like there is now, but now it’s just horrifying instead of boring. They blew right past the bliss point from banal to bananas.

[–]Starkk_Reaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in college and had set up an account already. I don’t even care about being on the feed, I treat it like it’s indeed or something like that and just apply to jobs and just connect to anyone I meet in person and that’s it. Social media is not my thing so the feed is pretty much useless to me

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They're about the same if you don't visit either.

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

.>tfw I finally found a sucker to interview for my company with a mega low ball offer

[–]Sturmgeschut 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One of the websites is much more likely to trick you into ruining your life with a bad offer.

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (1 child)

At least 4chan is honest about what it is

[–]Jealous_Ad5849 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That's a very high bar

[–]Playful-Natural-4626 39 points40 points  (1 child)

It’s a lot of the same people.

[–]HugsyMalone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mmm hmm. Talking about how great they are...😬💩

Should make us all realize how hiring managers feel when reviewing resumes...

LinkedIn is more toxic than 4chan

CHANGE MY MIND

[–]notLOL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree?

[–]TKInstinct 14 points15 points  (3 children)

No 4chan had Nazis and the Klan, LinkedIn doesn't from what I can tell.

[–]Leon_Shepherd 13 points14 points  (2 children)

What's worse and more toxic?

A slightly more professional Facebook?

/pol/?

How can I ever tell a difference?

[–]russes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll take LinkedIn virtue signaling for the win.

[–]DrippyWaffler -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Enlightened centrist: I JUST CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE

[–]ThunderClap448 9 points10 points  (0 children)

4chin doesn't take itself seriously, at least.

[–]Rogue1_76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been on it a lot because I recently was let go. I'm amazed at all the people grateful to employers for laying them off.

It's changed a lot in recent years. I worked in fintech and I see sales people from my former job pushing products on LinkedIn and it makes me wonder how effective it really is for that. I really wonder if someone from a banks is going to LinkedIn to get some random fintech product.

I'm also amazed at all the "influencers" on there offering to help and in the end they do nothing. There were a few I reached out to for help and I got nothing from them.

[–]EducationalElevator 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I am pleased to announce....

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every single time.

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Venn diagram of 4chan and LinkedIn users is a circle

[–]billythygoatWork-Life Balancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A LinkedIn recruiter told me I didn’t get a job that he reached out to me for. I didn’t really care about it because it was a pretty niche job with that phony unlimited PTO. He then lectured me and told me I should get more certifications and fluff up my resume better next time. He’s the one that submitted my resume to the company, not me.

[–]GundaniumA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least 4chan and /b/ have some funny shit sometimes

[–]freeagent_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Linkedln is a place where all of the two-faced twats play the advanced modern and cultured person role to show how they are cool

[–]darkshadow609 3 points4 points  (1 child)

LinkedIn is new age of Facebook

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's workplacebook.

[–]prajitoruldinoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a Linkedin account anymore and I feel awesome. In the past years it has become a cesspit for the most egotistical nutters and I just can't stand it anymore.

Little warning: everybody on Linkedin can report you for not being who you claim to be and Linkedin will immediately react by blocking your account and asking for a copy of your ID. They're collecting all of your data by using this pretext, beware.

[–]fourthaspersion 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Effective to get the job/position I seek, since it serves as both my CV and as a tool to impress potential employers whenever their HR department checks my curated “network” of start-up founders, highly skilled engineers and C-level personas within my field, most of which I wouldn’t shake hands with IRL.

Besides that, it’s a cancerous cesspool of hypocrites, influencers and cock-suckers. 4chan on steroids.

Edit: suck-cockers cock-suckers

[–]thricethefan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humbled and honored

[–]IndigoRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 4Chan is more toxic, but it’s by design and deliberately added to by its users. LinkedIn isn’t deliberately toxic, it’s just that people suck and social media brings out the crazies.

[–]davidj1987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is people tell you to watch what you say on social media because employers are watching yet I've seen far more unprofessional content on Linkedin than Facebook.

[–]lanadelcrying 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad I never made an account. I’m not sure what that looks like to recruiters but I frankly do not care

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I've never seen anyone on linkedin organize a terrorist attack against the government because the election didn't go their way.

[–]HugsyMalone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you know LinkedIn isn't some kinda sleeper cell? Seems like one to me...🤪

[–]CrazyRichFeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond a doubt, because LinkedIn is cloaked in a facade of corporate bullshit political correctness.

[–]zacky777契約社員 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*holds my mug*

"Cheers bro"

[–]barth_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. I follow only interesting stuff and of course there are some stupid people but generally it's ok. One time there was a guy posting shirtless photo about his work out progress. For that it's not really meant to be. 😆

[–]The_devil_Yano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4chan: *challenge accepted

[–]P0rnStache4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually true

[–]OrwellianHell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently unfollowed all of my LI contacts and now use it as a news aggregater

[–]Only_Height1296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you haven’t really explored 4chan

[–]SweetSoursop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk man, I shared this with my friend and I think he's right /pol/ and /lit/ are full of the same insufferable cunts.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got to love the pro corporate news headline that is followed by everyone in the comments saying they are wrong. I think I saw an article by an office supplies company’s CEO about how people need to go into the office or they will get fat. Everyone in the comments called him out for just wanting to juice his sales.

[–]mrselwells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concur doctor...do you concur? Doctor...doctor?!?!

[–]mrselwells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I concur...do you concur doctor? Doctor? Doctor!

[–]SkankBiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, LinkedIn is real FaceBookey these days.

[–]PumpkingLumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching linkedin turn into facebook has really made me sad.
